Barbados Open Water Festival
The sixth Barbados Open Water Festival. 1.5K, 3.3K, 5K, 10K plus practice swims and dinners. Spectacular swimcation. Safe, social and superb! Recreational to elite swimmers of all ages and nationalities.
Open water swimming island style. Beach party atmosphere. Food, drink and music available on race days. Ideal conditions in a protected bay with excellent visibility and a white sand bottom.
Want to swim but not race? Check out the practice swims Nov 1-3 and the “Just For Fun” Swim (1.5K) on Nov 4. Swim for Fun and help support “Variety: The Children’s Charity”.
Escort boat, many volunteers on paddle boards and in kayaks, medical team with doctors, EMTs and ambulance in case of emergency. Great prizes too!
5 fun-filled days of Swimming in Barbados
Wed. Nov. 1st
Guided 2km Open Water Swim in Carlisle Bay, similar route to weekend Swim races on 4th & 5th. Guests will gather at Copa Cabana Beach Bar at 4pm for welcome briefing, Guided Swim will start at 4.30pm. After the swim guests are invited to join us at the Copacabana for a BBQ Dinner Buffet & Drinks.
Thur. Nov. 2nd
Guided 2km Open Water Swim on the upper West Coast from the Port St. Charles Yacht Club. Guests will gather at the picturesque Port St. Charles Yacht Club for 4pm briefing, Guided Swim will start at 4.30pm. After the swim guests are invited to join us at the Port St. Charles Yacht Club for a dinner buffet and drinks.
Friday Nov. 3rd
Guided 2km Open Water Swim on the South Coast. Guests will gather at Miami Beach for 4pm briefing, Guided Swim will start at 4.30pm. After the swim guests are invited to join us at the Oistins Fish Festival which is only a short walk from Miami Beach.
All 3 guided swims will be held close to shore in safe conditions, with Paddle boarders and Kayakers escorting Swimmers. All 3 locations usually provide great opportunities for viewing beautiful reefs, colourful fish and turtles.
We will provide a chartered bus for transportation on the Thursday & Friday Guided swims for US$12 per person return included. Guests can sign up for the transport when you enter the Swims online. All registered participants will be notified by email closer to event. Details on Food & Beverage options for each of the Guided Swim Socials will also come by email to all participants.
The Guided Swims are Free for Flying Fish Masters & Kids 14 years and under supervised by an adult.
Saturday Nov. 4th
7.15am to 8:15am: Registration & Check in for the 1.5km Swims
All swimmers entered in the 1.5km Swim race are asked to come down to Copa Cabana Beach Bar between 7.15am and 8:15 am to check-in and receive their swim hat and be numbered. No new entries will be accepted on race day.
8.30am: Race Briefing on the Beach
9am: Race Start for 1.5km ‘Swim the Bay’ race & 1.5km ‘Just for Fun’ Swim
Join the hundreds of swimmers expected to participate in these 2 events which start together. The 1.5km ‘Swim the Bay’ Racers will compete for fantastic prizes including Airline tickets, Hotel stays, electronics, tickets to island attractions and Dinners at Fine Dining Restaurants. Swimmers who want to participate in the event but don’t want to race can join the swimmers in the 1.5km ‘Just for Fun’ Swim which starts just behind the 1.5km race and uses the same route. Just for Fun swimmers are allowed swimming aids.
The ‘Just for Fun’ swim is a great way for swimmers to become exposed to race conditions; it’s also fun for young kids that want to participate with help from their parents or guardians. The “Just for Fun” swim benefits the Variety Club of Barbados.
The 1.5km race is a good warm up for the 5km and 10km on Sunday 5th.
Presentation of prizes and awards for the 1.5km swims will take place immediately after the Swims.
Sunday Nov. 5th
7.15am to 8:15am: Registration & Check in for the 3.3km, 5km & 10km Swim Races (3 events).
8.30am: Race Briefing on the Beach
9am: Race Start for the 10km Swim Race
Six laps (1.67km each) in Carlisle Bay. No new entries will be accepted on race day.
9am: Race Start for the 5km Swim Race
Three laps (1.67km each) of this magnificent course in Carlisle Bay.

9am: Race Start for the 3.33km Swim Race
Two laps (1.67km each lap) of this magnificent course in Carlisle Bay.No new entries accepted on race day.
Presentation of prizes and awards for the 3.33km, 5km & 10 km swims will take place immediately after the event.
Food, DJ, music, drinks and loads of fun for the whole family November 4th- 5th at the Copa Cabana Beach Bar in Carlisle Bay, the home of the Barbados Open Water Festival.
The Open Water Festival is open to Swimmers of all skill levels from Recreational to Elite. The 2017 event will be the 6th BOWF. The course is surveyed by a land surveyor to ensure an accurate distance. Safety is the number one priority at BOWF. The course is patrolled by many volunteers on Stand Up Paddle Boards and in Kayaks as well as 2-3 motor boats. Life Guards are on hand as well as a medical team (Two medical doctors plus an ambulance on site). Racers will compete for fantastic prizes including Airline tickets, Hotel stays, Dinners at Fine Dining Restaurants and much more.
The 1.5km, 3.33km and 5km Swim races will consist of the following groups
Masters group for swimmers 25 years old and up (Male & Female separate),
Open group for swimmers up to 24 years old (Male & Female separate)
The ‘Just for Fun’ 1.5km only Swim event: Created for Swimmers who want the excitement of participating but are not interested in racing. These swimmers can use flippers and other approved swimming aids. No official times will be recorded for ‘Just for Fun’ group swimmers. No prizes awarded.
The 10km Swim: Prizes for top 3 Males & Females.
