SUMMARY:The Big Five Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The wildest of them all\nThe Big Five Marathon is an exclusive event that combines a challenging marathon experience with a classic African safari vacation.\nThe Big Five Marathon in South Africa is held among the wildlife of the African savannah. Runners from all over the world will meet in one of the most spectacular Big Five game reserves in Africa. \nIn these magnificent surroundings\, we combine exciting game drives with a challenging marathon route going right through the habitat of the most famous African game: Elephant\, Rhino\, Buffalo\, Lion and Leopard. \nNo fences\, no rivers\, nothing at all separates the runners from the African wildlife! \n \nRace Info\nThe Big Five Marathon features a classic 42.195km marathon and a half marathon. The distances are colour coded – marathon is black and half marathon is red. Marathon and half marathon – Minimum 18 years old on race day. \n\nRoute description\n\nThe Big Five Marathon is known for its challenging course\, which takes runners through incredible scenery and showcases the natural beauty and wildlife of South Africa. \nThe start and finish line are situated at Lakeside Lodge on the upper escarpment. After the start\, the marathon and half marathon routes take the runners past Ravineside Lodge\, the Entabeni Monolith and further on to the lower plateau. This first section is run on dirt roads made up of red sand. Runners will pass a few hills (nothing too bad…the most challenging is yet to come!). And when you reach Hanglip View Point\, you backtrack and run back before you reach Yellow Wood Valley. Pay attention to this section as the surface is very uneven with loose rocks\, pebbles and holes. \nThe Yellow Wood Valley is the most dreaded part of the course. You are about to run down the steepest slope of your life! This sharp descent is on a paved surface. The next three kilometres or so will be excruciatingly hard on your quads as you negotiate the steep slope. You reach lion country after the descent. And\, although the next nine kilometres are flat\, you’re running through deep sand. Full marathoners do a 9km loop\, whereas half marathon runners run a 2km loop. \n\n \n  \n\nThis brings us back to Yellow Wood. And yes\, you guessed correctly – we’re going up the dreaded hill this time! Be prepared to take things slowly as it’s virtually impossible to run up this hill. \nThe route carries on to Long Drive\, a narrow valley\, where marathon runners do a 6km loop. Half marathoners run across the valley and reach the final section of the route. This section is run on dirt trails\, a welcome respite from the deep sand and loose stone terrain earlier on. \nThe end of the run is fairly hard (final four kilometres). We run halfway down the ridge\, which provides us with a wonderful view out over the plateau’s lake. The surface is fairly bad\, consisting of hard uneven stony ground with plenty of large rocks and stones of all sizes. This final part has quite a few hills and as the surface is loose\, it pays to keep a careful watch on the ground as we run towards the finish. With the finish line in sight you can now take it nice and easy. \nThe weather is very dry\, sunny and cool at this time of the year. The race is set every year in week 33. DESCRIPTION: It is an unique event and an opportunity to enjoy Swedish landscape with your running shoes on. The four distances: 42\,2 – 21\,1 – 10\,5 – 5\,5 km is great if you bring friends and family. You are able to change distance until last day. \n\nA lovely feature of the race is that you celebrate your achievement by taking a swim. The start and finish is at Fjällnora\, a beach located at an isthmus between two lakes\, surrounded by forests. \n\nThe event is small scale and friendly\, we expect no more than 200-300 people on each distance. Our aim is to focus on lovely run courses and less garbage. So we will provide runners with multi-use cups instead of plastic cups. Less merchandise\, but more run fun. You may actually meet a steam train along the course!\n\nOur race is open for runners with dogs\, last year there were just two dogs. DESCRIPTION:The Thule 4Peaks Mountain Challenge is a rugged 24 kilometres (15 mi) mountain skyline route for trail runners\, held every September since 2002 in the Witteberge 32 kilometres (20 mi) NNE of Ficksburg in South Africa’s Free State province near the Lesotho border.. \nA record field of 210 mountain runners tackled the route in 2010. The large number of entrants necessitated a start of 3 batches at 15 min intervals. Ryan Sandes\, the 2010 men’s winner\, set a new record time of 2h 41m 58s. Fit athletes complete the course in about 6hrs with the backmarkers finishing in about 9hrs. \nThis race exists to enlighten all those who think the Free State is that flat part on the N1 on your way to Cape Town.  Come and challenge yourself in with the unique and extreme 4Peaks mountain race.  The race’s home is in the picturesque Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve.  This unique circle race runs along the tops of the Witteberg Mountain range that makes an unforgettable horse shoe that encloses the Moolmanshoek valley. \nThe race is hosted by the Nel family at Moolmanshoek.  Most athletes make the race a weekend affair with family and friends and added value like a breathtakingly beautiful mountain bike ride the day after the race.  Apart from these two races there are several hikes\, bird hides\, lots of game that can be viewed on horseback\, or from a horse cart or from a 4×4 game viewing vehicle \nThe route rates as extremely demanding\, but is made bearable by spectacular mountain scenery. DESCRIPTION:The Marathon course follows a part of the Olympic route along the Amstel River\, past stately homes and a few windmills. This route offers beautiful rural scenery (which includes the Arena) and gives an impression of the huge amount of daily business that takes place on the Amstel. \n  \n \nThe TCS Amsterdam Marathon is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race that for years has had one of the fastest courses in the world. Highlights of the course include the start and finish in the Olympic Stadium\, the passage through the Rijksmuseum and stretches along the Amstel and through the Vondelpark. \n  \n>>  REGISTRATION  <<\nThere are five events scheduled this day: the TCS Marathon\, the Mizuno Half Marathon\, the TCS 8K run\, the Kids Run and the Mini Marathon. Online registration for this year’s event is open from november 12th until the limit is reached (TCS Marathon 16.500\, Mizuno Half Marathon 20.000 en TCS 8K 7.000).

DESCRIPTION:The Great Buddhist Master trail Marathon is more than a run\, this is about a whole Nepalese experience. \nFirstly enjoy the intoxicating and exhilarating city of Kathmandu\, See the sunrise over the city from Swayambhuath (The Monkey Temple) and experience a culture so different to ours at Pashupatinath where you will witness cremations alongside the Holy river Bagmati. \n\n\nIt is all off road (no tarmac in sight for miles)   You will twist and turn onto little tracks and pass through tiny villages at the foot of the Himalayas to the amusement of the locals! \nIn November the village is at it’s best with mustard fields in full colour\, orange trees in bloom and clear visibility to the snow capped mountains above.  It is truly spectacular. \n\n\nThe Manegau village sits at the foot of the Himalayas and the landscape is simply stunning. It is like stepping into a different world. You will be welcomed by the locals as you run or walk through their villages\, and eat freshly prepared traditional homemade Nepalese cuisine. \nAfter a challenging run/walk there will be a prize giving ceremony followed by a traditional Nepalese party under the stars. This trip is intimate with only 20 participants each time as it is not a commercial run. It is non-profit making and has enabled houses to be built following the earthquakes 3 years ago. \nIf the 2019 has sold out\, you can contact organizers to apply for the 2020 marathon.
