DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2nd Smiling Villages Marathon. Welcome to the Gambia. It is one of two charity marathons in Gambia in 2020. The Smiling Villages Marathon will be run in the area of Bwiam and Kanilai on the south bank of the Gambia river. \nDuring the first edition in February 2019 we could not reach Kanilai by car. The village people stopped us two kilometers earlier. We had to dance with them into the village. The most beautiful welcome ceremony I have ever experienced on one of my 300 marathons: Dancing with the people of the Smiling Villages. \nCharity-Background: In Gambia we have familiar contacts with the Gambian soccer federation and shipped already a lot of equipment to build up a computer class using special educational software. This trip is intimate with only 20 participants each time as it is not a commercial run. It consists of a wide range of terrain and its quite hilly\, a series of constant ups and downs. Its a out and back single continuous route that starts off from MacRitchie Reservoir and takes you all the way into the heart of the gorgeous trails at Bukit Timah and Dairy Farm areas. Thus its a great route for those who are looking to get into regular trail running and explore trails outside of MacRitchie Reservoir.\n\n\n\nCut off time: 6hrs (7.05am to 1.05pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10 KM\n\nThis is a simple out and back single continuous route which is almost entirely on trails. Its a course that has constant ups and downs all the way and hence its quite challenging but still lots of fun. Its a perfect course for traditional 10km runners of all abilities\, of any age.\n\n\n\nCut off time: 4hrs (7.15am to 11.15am)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n05 KM\n\nThe 5km category is a simple out and back route which is run almost entirely on trails\, and is flanked by gorgeous ancient trees on both sides of the trail route. It is a route that will appeal to runners of all abilities\, young and old. It is also a very familiar route to many who have been to Macritchie Reservoir. Thus it’s bound to be a trail favourite!
