SUMMARY:Hercules Festival of Sport Northwood
DESCRIPTION:Hercules Festival of Sport Northwood\nOur Hercules Festival of Sport Northwood is set in the stunning grounds of Merchant Taylors’ School. With its rich\, 450-year history\, the grounds provide a spectacular backdrop to what is our most outstanding event yet. We would love you join us at this well-established and exceptional event on 27 May 2018. \nOur routes will be set in the beautiful surrounds of this historic stately school and in the scenic roads adjoining the estate. Our open water swim events will take place in the picturesque private lake. \nWe are pleased to offer our full range of sporting events from the children’s fun run right up to a Half Iron distance triathlon; there really is something for the whole family at a Hercules Festival of Sport. So why not make a day of it? Sign up your family or friends in a team for one of our many events in the Festival and make it a day to remember. \nAll our adult events are chip timed**\, professionally photographed and you will receive a finisher’s medal and a technical t-shirt for your participation. \nTriathlon\nWe are hosting four open water Triathlon distances at the Festival of Sport Northwood: \n• Novice – 400M/10K/2.5K\n• Sprint – 750M/20K/5K\n• Standard – 1500M/40K/10K\n• Half Iron – 1.9K/100K/20K (8 hour maximum completion time) \nEach wave will start with an ‘in water’ start in the large and sheltered Merchant Taylors private lake. After the swim\, it’s just a short dash to the Transition Zone\, which situated in a fully fenced and secure area adjacent to the lake. The bike leg will take you out on the picturesque Hertfordshire roads on interesting\, fast and challenging routes. The run leg is predominately flat and is set within the confines of the stunning Merchant Taylor grounds. The finish\, as always\, is in our sports village where you will receive a hero’s welcome over the line. \nMinimum Age: Novice and Sprint 15+\, Standard 16+ and Half Iron 18+ \nRun\nThere will be 3 run distances at the Hercules Festival of sport Northwood: 1.5K Fun Run\, 5K and 10K. \nWe have created interesting routes through the picturesque private Merchant Taylors’ grounds. It then follows the Paro Chu River downstream the tributary of the Wang Chu\, where runners are at 2200m altitude. \nThe route is undulating along the Wang Chu tributary – climbing gradually above the latticework of rice paddies up stream on one side of the river before crossing a bridge and returning down the other side on a gentle descent. \nArriving back on the road near Paro the half marathon is reached and the runners in the 21.1km will stop – spectators will be brought to the half marathon point to see the finish then both spectators and half marathon runners will return by bus to the start area at Zhiwa Ling to see the full marathon runners finish. \nThe Marathon will then climb steadily for 4km up the side of a valley passing above Paro Dzong then up to Zueray Dzong\, the highest point of the race (2530m). \nFrom here you start to drop to the valley passing by the luxury Uma Resort (2413m).\nDropping sharply back to the river\, the route crosses the ornate Paro Bridge in front of Paro Dzong. From here the route passes to the South of the town before rising up on the road for 3km to 2\,400m\, followed by a short climb on a wide track before picking up forest trails along a line of Chortens festooned with prayer flags. \nA short but steep climb at 30km on road takes you onto forest trail around a valley spur before dropping back to the valley. The final 10km are along an undulating dirt road through villages before dropping steeply on road with incredible views of the Tigers Nest as you approach the finish line back at Zhiwa Ling. \nThe first half of the race is easier than the second half with long sections of flat to undulating running on the road and gravel trails of the river banks. This makes the 21km suitable for all runners and run/walkers regardless of pace as there is no cut off time. \nStart/Finish\nThe Marathon and Half Marathon start at the 5 Star Zhiwa Ling Hotel in Paro. At the start\, the races are blessed by the local Monks to bring good luck and a safe race. \nAt the 21.1km of the Marathon course\, the Half Marathon finishes along the Wang Chu Tributary. Spectators and Half Marathon Runners will be transported back to the start area at Zhiwa Ling. \nThe Marathon finishes back at Zhiwa Ling. \nAll Runners will recieve a medal after crossing the finish line and refreshments will be available. \nStations\nThere will be water stations at approximately every 4km along the routes. Water will be served in bottles. Some stations will also server energy drinks and bananas. Gels will be available at the 30km point. \nTiming\nFinal details about the timing will be announced in your participant guide. The Thunder Dragon Marathon and Half Marathon will be manually timed. \nThe cut off time for the Marathon is 8 hours but has some flexibility depending upon the weather conditions. There is no cut off time for the Half Marathon. All Runners who do not achieve the cut off will be picked up and driven to the finish line. \nRoute Logistics\nKilometre signs are places every 5km along the route. Directional signs are placed frequently and tape is used to clearly direct Runners along any unmarked paths. \nAn extensive team of local Bhutanese Marshalls will be at key points along the course to give directions and ensure your safety. \nPlease note that some sections of the Marathon and Half Marathon Routes are run on roads which are not closed to traffic. Although traffic is not heavy\, take care and look out for vehicles.

SUMMARY:The Great East SwimRun 2018
DESCRIPTION:The Great East SwimRun 2018\nEntries for the 2018 Great East SwimRun are now open! \nSince its inception in 2006\, SwimRun has become a popular choice around the World for endurance athletes and is now the fastest growing endurance sport in the UK. \nThe concept was born in Sweden\, following a drunken bet among friends as to who could better navigate 20 islands and 75k of the Stockholm archipelago. \nRunners and swimmers from across the UK\, and triathletes seeking a change from the traditional triathlon format will enjoy stepping up to a new challenge. \nBased on teamwork\, passion\, and closeness to nature\, teams of two embark on a seamless journey across the landscape\, taking on land and water\, as they navigate their way around the course. \nThis outdoor running and swimming challenge is the new benchmark in adventure races. Not just for endurance athletes\, the most important things you need are a sense of adventure\, some determination and a lot of fun! \n \nAbout the event \nAn ideal entry level event giving everyone the chance to sample the SwimRun experience. Based on a single lap of Alton Water which is set in 400 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside.\nThe event starts and finishes at the main Great East Swim event site. The 11.3km course (approximately) comprises 4 swims and 3 runs.\nThe swim courses include the start and finish sections of the Great Swims with a sunken tennis court thrown in for good measure. The run courses have something for everyone: \nRun 1: Quick and flat through grassland and light woodland. The course is predominantly based on hard packed surface with some softer areas under trees.\nRun 2: Undulating\, sweeping run on a variety of surfaces\, includes three steep descents and several short\, sharp climbs.\nRun 3: Gently undulating course based largely on packed sand cycle track and path which follows the contours of the reservoir with the water regularly visible.\nTotal swim distance: approximately 20%\nTotal run distance: approximately 80%\nTransitions: 4 swims / 3 runs\nTime: unlimited\, take your time\nAge: 16 years old and over \n11.3k total distance covered \nThere will be a mandatory briefing before the event at 09:30.\nThe provisional start time for the event is 10:30. \nRules & Regulations

SUMMARY:Australian Outback Marathon 2018
DESCRIPTION:Australian Outback Marathon 2018\nSetting off in a south-Westerly direction from the start/finish area\, the ground underfoot turns from a graded bush road to a genuine bush fire-trail\, with a combination of packed and soft\, red earthy sand underfoot. After approximately 3km you will cross the Lassiter Highway and turn north-west for another 3km. Look out for stunning views of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) on your left. \nThe course then turns in a north-easterly direction for another 2km and the ground changes once again from a desert track back to an unsealed but graded road. After approximately 8km you hit one of the few sealed roads on the course\, Mala Road\, which takes you through the village of Yulara on your way to more off-road trails. After crossing both Giles Road and Coote Road\, a brief turn due North takes you back onto the red earth as you head up towards Connellan Airport. \nYou start to head back towards the start/finish area after approximately 12km. There are a few small dunes to navigate here with some spectacular views of Uluru awaiting you over almost every tiny bump in the road. \nThe 15km mark sees you cross a different sectiuon of the Lassiter Highway and another short stretch of sealed road awaits you before you head off once again into the bush. After approximately 18.5km you will take a left turn where a 5km stretch of pure Australian Outback awaits you\, and there are once again some truly amazing views to be had here. Look out for the view at the top of Jem’s Dune which is almost exactly half-way. \nAt around 22.5km you take a right followed by a left (approx. 200m) and you start the trip home. Utilising some of the tracks near the resort\, you take a long\, meandering loop over a small dune and continue on until you hit the track at the 26km mark. This marks the way back to the finish and you are now 3/5ths of the way back. \nAfter once again crossing the Lassiter Highway you will get to see some fantastic views of Kata Tjuta\, especially in the 30km-32km stretch. Back through Yulara village at around 32.5km sees you once again on Mala Road\, the only sealed section of the course\, with the red earth once again waiting to welcome you at around 36km. Here you will also get to see the twin sights of Kata Tjuta on your left and Uluru on your right. \nFrom here it is plain sailing all the way to the finish line\, with yet more breath-taking views to inspire you over the last few kilometres. \nThe entire course is relatively flat from a topographical point of view but there are a few little inclines here and there. A couple of short sand dunes also make an appearance and whilst they are not long or high they will certainly feel like a challenge when running up them. The views at the top will certainly make the effort worthwhile. \nUnderfoot can get a little soft in places but this is “the red earth” after all!

SUMMARY:Petra Desert Marathon 2018
DESCRIPTION:Marathon Events in Jordan\nRun back in time… \nChallenge yourself to a desert run in historic settings! \nStarting in the ancient city of Petra\, the Petra Desert Marathon leads runners past the incredible tombs\, mountainside carvings and caves before venturing into the arid\, lunar-like landscapes of the Jordanian desert. Choose the marathon\, half marathon or cheer on the runners! \nBeing rich in history\, culture and scenic nature\, Jordan offers its visitors superb possibilities for an exciting vacation. From the splendid ruins of Petra and the vast and awe-inspiring Wadi Rum desert\, to a floating swim in the Dead Sea – Jordan has something for everyone to enjoy\, not to mention the warm hospitality of the Jordanian people. \nEmbark on an Arabian adventure and run the desert race of a lifetime! \nThe Petra Desert Marathon is a challenging adventure marathon set in the beautiful desert region of Jordan. Starting in the ancient city of Petra\, the route takes runners on a remarkable route through the area surrounding Petra. From the lunar-like mountain landscape to the arid desert\, runners navigate challenging terrain in the dry\, desert heat. \nInformation relating to the marathon event can be found on this page. If you can’t find what you’re looking for\, have a look at the important information section on the registration packages page\, or get in touch with us. \nAge Limit\nMarathon runners must be minimum 18 years old on race day.\nHalf marathon runners must be minimum 16 years old on race day. \nAwards\nAll finishers receive a medal. A small\, symbolic prize is given to the winners of both distances for men and women. Please note that there is no prize money. \nWeather & Clothing\nWith temperatures as high as 35°C / 95°F and a hilly\, desert route offering very little shade\, the Petra Desert Marathon is an arduous race. \nIt is recommended that participants run in light-weight\, light-coloured clothing. \nA t-shirt offers better protection from heat stroke than a sleeveless shirt\, but it is of course an personal choice. In all cases\, we highly recommend the use of sunscreen with high protection and a cap. \nThere are no clothing restrictions\, so women and men alike can run in shorts\, tights\, tank tops etc. \nCut-off times\nAll runners have 7 hours to complete the race. Runners still on the route after the time limit will be picked up by a race official or medical car and driven back to the finish area. \nFive hours after the start\, however\, the route closes at the 31km mark (10km mark for the half marathon) meaning that runners who haven’t passed this point at 11:30 will not be allowed to finish the race. \nDistances\nThe Petra Desert Marathon features a classic 42.195 km Marathon and a Half Marathon. The distances are colour-coded – marathon is black and half marathon red. \nAt the race briefing the day before the race\, runners are permitted to change distance. Please note that change of distance is not allowed on race day. \nDrink stations\nDrink stations serving water are situated along the route. Selected stations also serve energy drinks and bananas. \nElevation\nThe Petra Desert Marathon is a hilly course with an ascent of roughly 1\,200m and a descent of 1\,100m. \nMedical Team\nA team of specialised doctors from Denmark and paramedics from Jordan will supervise the marathon and assist in case of injury or exhaustion. The medical team has undisputed authority to exclude runners who\, according to the doctors’ judgment\, should not continue running if there is a serious health risk to the runner. The medical team will be patrolling the route and be situated in the finish area and on strategic points of the route. \nRunners who wish to drop out of the marathon should go to the nearest drinks station and wait for a medic or race official car. If it is not practical to go to a drink station\, simply wait at the side of the road. We encourage all participants to look out for each other and report to the officials or medical team if you see an injured runner on the route. All decisions made by the medical team are final. \nPersonal belongings/supplies\nPersonal belongings can be dropped off at the Visitors Centre and will be brought to the finish area. Any personal belongings you want available at the finish area should be packed in a bag or backpack and clearly marked with your name and start number. The bag must be handed over to the race officials at Petra Visitors Centre before 5:30 on race day morning. \nThe walk from the Visitors Centre to the start line can be chilly and a light jacket or sweater is recommended for the walk. This jacket or sweater can be dropped at the start line and will be brought to the finish area. Again we ask you to clearly mark all your belongings with name and start number. \nThe Petra Desert Marathon organisers cannot be held responsible for any lost or damaged items or valuables. \nIt is possible to have personal supplies delivered to selected drinks stations. Marathon runners can get personal supplies at four stations and half marathon runners at one station. \nThe personal supplies can be food\, drink\, sunscreen or other personal necessities. \nPersonal supplies must be handed over to the race officials at the race briefing the day before the race – remember to clearly mark your supplies with your start number and the number of the drinks station you want it deposited at. \nPersonal supplies deposited at the drinks stations will not be returned. \nRace officials\nEnglish-speaking race officials are in charge of setting up the route as well as controlling the logistics on race day. They will be patrolling the route and guiding on the most crucial places on the course. Assisting guides will also be placed on the route to show directions. All decisions made by the race official team are final. \nRoute description\nFrom the start line in the Street of Facades\, the route goes through the ancient city of Petra and right away you will find yourself surrounded with tombs\, caves and monasteries carved in the mountainsides. \nA 2km uphill section on paved road leads runners out of the Petra Archaeological Park boundaries and via the main road towards the desert on hilly tarmac road. \nAfter 6 kilometres\, the route leaves the asphalt road and continues into the desert. Half marathon runners take the direct way to the river bed gorge “Siq Al Bard” while marathon runners have to do a loop around the hill top “Al Musirh”. Leaving Siq al Bard at Little Petra\, the route is back on the tarmac road heading towards the village of Ammarine \nJust before the village half marathon runners continue straight through the village while marathon runners turn left on the road leading to Wadi Araba to do a 8km back tracking stretch running past incredible rock formations that only few tourists visit. \nWhen passing the 30km mark\, full marathon runners find themselves back at Ammarine village and merge again with the half marathon course. From here\, the route goes uphill to a mountain ridge for the next 5 kilometres\, but the strenuous efforts are rewarded with an astonishing view over most of the marathon route\, the mountains covering Petra and on clear days even Israel can be seen. On this mountain ridge the surface becomes gravel for the next 3 kilometres. \nThe final 4 kilometres are steep downhill running on paved roads towards the finish line. \nRoute logistics\nKilometre signs can be found along the entire route. Owing to the conditions\, however\, they may be placed +/- some metres from the exact point. The kilometre signs are therefore only for orientation and runners shouldn’t calculate speed based on the signs. \nNote that there won’t be any toilets along the course\, which means that there are toilets everywhere! Toilet paper is available at all drinks stations. \nThe route is not closed off to traffic\, but traffic police guards all entries to the route to warn drivers and ask them to slow down. Traffic is not heavy on these roads\, but do keep an eye out for cars and trucks while running on paved roads. \nRules and regulations\nIf you decide to change distance during the race\, ie. if a half marathon runner decides to follow the marathon route instead of the half marathon route\, he or she will receive a marathon medal but not an official time. The race result will read FNT (finished no time). The same applies for a marathon runner who changes distances during the race. All runners who change distances before race day will be registered accordingly and receive an official time. \nThe top three male and female finishers of all distances are the first three to physically cross the finish line regardless of their net time. \nStart/Finish\nThe finish line is located near the Petra Visitor Centre within walking distance of the Mövenpick Resort and Candles\, Edom and Petra Moon hotels. \nAll runners must meet at the Petra Visitor Centre from where we walk the 2.5 kilometers through the Siq and past the Treasury to the start line at the Street of Facades. \nAll runners who complete the marathon or half marathon within the time limit will receive a medal after crossing the finish line. \nWater and a sandwich lunch pack are given to all participants. Checked-in bags can be picked up at the bag check-out area. \nStart/bib numbers\nA tool for race directors to tell hundreds of runners apart\, made of a plastic-like paper\, which you pin on your body. They also serve as mementos and for others to monitor your progress. \nAll runners must wear the official bib number that will be handed out the day before the race. Marathon bibs are black while half marathon bibs are red. The bib number must be attached to the front of the torso and be visible during the entire race. \nSupplies on the route\nThere will be water stations at approximately every 4 kilometres along the route. Some stations will also serve energy drinks and bananas. All stations provide bottled water. Marathon runners will be offered energy gel after 26km and 35km. \nTerrain\nThe route is run on a mixture of gravel and paved roads. The surface in the desert sections is sand with loose rocks. \nTime taking and results\nTiming is done with AMB Chip. The chip will be in the race pack that runners receive the day before the race. The chip must be attached around the ankle with the velcro strap that follows or in the shoe lace. The chip must be handed back to the timing staff at the finish line. \nTraffic\nThe roads are not closed for traffic. Although traffic is not heavy in the area\, please be aware whenever running on asphalt roads. We advise you to run on the left side of the road\, so you can see any vehicles coming towards you. \nWrist bands\nPlease note that the marathon route has an out-and-back stretch totalling 18km. At the turn-around point of this stretch (9km out) marathon runners will receive a wrist band to prove that they went all the way out. The wrist band must be worn for the remainder of the race to the finish line. No wrist band = disqualification. \nThe wrist band applies to marathon runners only.

SUMMARY:International WACHAUmarathon
DESCRIPTION:International WACHAUmarathon 2018\nThe International WACHAUmarathon is back! \nThe race officially begins on Sunday at 10:00 on the B3 in Emmersdorf near the recreational center. \nThe WACHAUmarathon running route is enjoyed and appreciated by thousands of hobby runners due to its flat topography. There is hardly an easier and faster stretch than the one between Emmersdorf and Krems. Beginners especially appreciate when there is a running event with no hill or mountain. These ideal topographical conditions enable them to more easily achieve their own personal running goals. \nOn the other hand the WACHAUmarathon can offer performance-oriented runners the perfect conditions for a fast race. In this way the Wachau “track” especially promotes personal best performances. \nOVERVIEW\nThe marathon starts in Emmersdorf at 10 a.m. at the same time than the halfmarathon gets started in Sptiz. The marathon route goes upstream from Emmerdorf on the B3 until the small village of Weitenegg\, where the runners will get to the road next to the beautiful danube and turn downstream back to the starting point in Emmersdorf. From there on the route follows the B3 until reaching Krems. In Krems you won’t have to run through the city any more which makes the marathon both: more attractive and faster \nStart in Emmersdorf\nThe starting line is directly next to the roundabout that leads to the bridge over the Danube to Melk. The parking lot in front of Emmerdorf’s sport center is the perfect place to meet before the starting signal. \nBe there and experience the unique flair of the marathon start in Emmersdorf with a view of the Melk Abbey. \nYou have three options for getting to the marathon start in Emmersdorf an der Donau. Bus and trains are included in the entry fee. \nYou should choose a travel option at registration. This will be printed on your bib number with a symbol and the time. \nPlease be aware that the road through the Wachau is closed on the day of the event as of 8:00 and can no longer be driven. \nBaggage Transport\nBaggage transport will be carried out by busses located near the starting area and marked with your event and bib number. \nPlease have your bib number at hand when dropping off and picking up baggage. Baggage may be deposited beginning an hour before the event until at the latest 10 minutes before the start. \nAt the finish line the busses will be located near the conference halls. Please follow the signs. \nWe inform you that only clothing bags distributed by the organizer and marked with name and number will be transported\, We take no responsibility for lost articles\, most especially including clothing sacks and the valuables deposited in them. \nEnergy stations along the route\nCatering during the run is an important element in any runner’s success. For this reason the WACHAUmarathon team works hard every year to provide the ideal availability of liquids and food along the route. \nWorking with our partners we are able to set up 11 Hydration/Energy Stations along the entire marathon route. \nDuring the marathon you can refill your energy reserves at \nKM 5 (no personal drinks) / KM 7.5 / KM 11.7 / KM 15.4 / KM 20.0 / KM 23.1 / KM 25.1 / KM 28.7 / KM 32.5 / KM 35.0 / KM 36.9 (no personal drinks) / KM 39.4 \nSelf Catering Marathon\nSelf-catering for the marathon (not available for the half marathon) can be deposited on Saturday\, Sept 16\, 11:00-18:00 at the information stand at the WACHAUmarathon EXPO (Krems conference center) or on Sunday\, Sept 17\, 9:00-9:30 at the marathon start in Emmersdorf. Containers (NO GLAS!) must be clearly marked with name\, bib number\, and catering station. \nCatering stations along the course: \nKM 5.0 (no self-catering) / KM 7.5 / KM 11.7 / KM 15.4 / KM 20.0 / KM 23.1 / KM 25.1 / KM 28.7 / KM 32.5 / KM 35.0 / KM 36.9 (no self-catering) / KM 39.4 \nAttention: the self-catering table is the first one at the hydration/energy stations. \nINTERNATIONAL WACHAU MARATHON TRIVIA\nSo far\, national championships were held three times under the Wachau Marathon.
