SUMMARY:MK24- Midsummer Run 'The return of the Towel'
DESCRIPTION:We’re back for a second year following the huge and fantastic debut of the MK24 at Willen Lake\, Milton Keynes in 2019. It’s going to be bigger and better so sign up now to avoid disappointment. \nThe route follows the Midsummer Ley Line in a number of places and includes many of the key icons of Milton Keynes along the way. \n“OH MY GOODNESS I CAN’T RUN FOR 24 HOURS” \nIt’s not like that. Our motto is “Run it Your Way” and that’s exactly what you can do. Take a break between laps to soak up the event village atmosphere or have a snooze. Its up to you. \nSome I guess will want to run as much as possible\, others in a team of 2-6\, but the aim is to run as much or as little as you like. \nFor example\, each lap consists of 6.55 miles (1/4 Marathon) so if you ever wanted to run a half or full marathon\, all you need to do is complete 2 or 4 laps over the 24-hour period. Or go further and complete 5 laps or more (UKA rules allow over 20s only) for an Ultra Marathon. You can do it in a team\, or as a solo returning to complete another lap when you’re ready. \nIf you only want to do just the one lap\, no problem\, we are all inclusive and everyone who enters receives the bespoke medal for 2020 plus our iconic and much sought after embroidered hand Towel plus\, our now famous distance pin badges for completing 13.1 miles\, 26.2 miles or the Ultra \nI am pleased to announce that we are now inviting juniors between 10 and 18 years to join us at the MK24 ‘Midsummer Run’ in 2020. Juniors will not be permitted to run the entire course but run half laps of approximately 5km. By completing two half laps over the 24 hours\, they will be eligible for the fantastic MK24 medal plus the Iconic embroidered hand towel. We will organise two special group starts at 7pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday to witness the Sunrise from Beacon Hill. So why not camp out overnight and book a pitch in the campsite and enjoy the atmosphere of the outdoor games zone and if things go to plan\, the outdoor cinema on Saturday evening. We insist that the young people are supervised whilst on site but not necessarily on the run as I guess most of them run faster than us adults. If you wish to join in the fun with your children\, then why not enter too. \nNEW FOR 2020 \nA brand new specially designed bespoke medal\, yet to be unveiled.\nA fourth pin badge\, the ‘Double Marathon’ for those who complete 8 laps or more\nSpecial organised group starts\, including ‘The Start’\, ‘The Sunset’\, ”The Midnight Glow Stick!’\, ‘The Breakfast!’\, ‘The last chance’ and of course the popular ‘Sunrise’ ….. to name but a few.\nEntertainment with live music on Saturday evening followed hopefully by an open-air cinema.\nOutdoor games zone including Rounders\, Boules and more.\nSlightly altered route with bigger and better signage.\nMK24 merchandise for sale from the club shop coming soon.\nCamping will again be available on site\, but pitches will be limited so book your pitch now. Why not enter with your running pals as a team and enjoy camping out under the stars whilst you take it in turns running a lap. \n \n \nOur partners Freedom Leisure have again this year promised to make their facilities available FREE of charge including the swimming pool\, sauna and showers\, for all participants. Portable Toilets will be available on site\, with other public toilets nearby courtesy of Willen Lake and The Parks Trust. \nWe are working hard in partnership with The Premier Inn at Willen in the hope that rooms will be available at a discounted rate if you would rather sleep in a bed then under canvas\, so watch this space for more updates.\nSnacks\, water and hot drinks will be available FREE of charge. All we ask that you bring your own re-fillable water bottle and coffee mug. \nHot and cold food will be available to purchase from nearby vendors including the Café\, Pub/Restaurant\, Pizza van and not to be missed our very own charity BBQ serving Burgers\, Hot dogs and Bacon Rolls. \nTo enter the event\, each person will need to do so in person\, but the entry form allows you to enter with others by naming your team and team leader. This will enable us to link entries together. Please ensure that you spell these details correctly. \nPrizes for the fastest lap\, and Individuals or Teams who completes the most laps over the 24-hour period. \nRedway Runner members should select the Redway Runner catagory below or log into their club profile to take advantage of the members discount. \n****** The event is held under UKA rules. Licenses applied for from The Trail Running Association\, The Parks Trust & Willen Lakes. ***** \n[fusion_button link=”http://www.mk24run.com/” text_transform=”” title=”” target=”_self” link_attributes=”” alignment=”” modal=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” s2id_autogen17=”” s2id_autogen17_search=”” color=”default” button_gradient_top_color=”” button_gradient_bottom_color=”” button_gradient_top_color_hover=”” button_gradient_bottom_color_hover=”” accent_color=”” accent_hover_color=”” type=”” bevel_color=”” border_width=”” border_radius=”” border_color=”” border_hover_color=”” size=”” stretch=”default” icon=”” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” s2id_autogen18=”” s2id_autogen18_search=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ s2id_autogen19=”” s2id_autogen19_search=”” animation_offset=””]ENTER HERE[/fusion_button]

SUMMARY:Brixen Dolomiten Marathon
DESCRIPTION:140 Athletes from already 14 different countries have so far written to each other for the Brixen Dolomites Marathon. Among them for the first time are athletes from Russia\, Hong Kong and South Africa. “After the anniversary edition\, we assumed that the number of participants could perhaps decline a little. However\, the opposite is the case\, because we are at exactly the same level as last year. What makes us particularly happy is of course the fact that we attract mountain runners from countries from which no participants have yet come to Brixen. This internationalization is essential for Brixen as a tourist destination\,” says OK boss Christian Jocher. \nThe mountain marathon takes you from the cathedral square in the centre of Brixen (560m) to the Plose\, the local mountain of Brixen at 2.450m. The route goes from forest and meadow trails\, in sections on asphalt roads\, to St. Andrä (1.062m). At the valley station of the cable car Plose takes place the first change of the relay 4×4. Now it goes on hiking and forest trails to Afers (1.504m)\, here is the second change area of the relay 4×4 and the unique one of the relay 2×2. \nAccompanied by a exclusive scenery of the Peitler mountain and the Dolomites in the background\, the route takes you in sections on asphalt roads and forest trails via Rossalm to Kreuztal (2.050 m)\, the 3rd change area for the relay runners 4×4. On the hiking trail to the Ochsenalm you can enjoy the wonderful view down the valley before the last 3\,2 km and 400 m of altitude gain await you. \nThe spectacular mountain scenery\, a 360° panoramic view at the finish make you forget all your efforts of the marathon. A double challenge: the 2.450 meters of altitude between Brixen and the Plose – simply “running to the limits”. \n \nStart: Brixen Cathedral Square (560 m) \nFinish: Plose (2.450 m)\nLength: 42\,195 km\nHeight difference: 2.450 m\nTime limit: 8 hours\nIMPORTANT: All foreign runners participating in Brixen Dolomites Marathon need to have a medical certificate filled in\, and send it to -> info@brixenmarathon.it prior to the event and before the 30.06.2019 in order to run this race. The medical certificate template will be provided during the registration process.\n\n[fusion_button link=”https://www.brixenmarathon.com/en/registration.html” text_transform=”” title=”” target=”_self” link_attributes=”” alignment=”” modal=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility\,medium-visibility\,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” s2id_autogen19=”” s2id_autogen19_search=”” color=”default” button_gradient_top_color=”” button_gradient_bottom_color=”” button_gradient_top_color_hover=”” button_gradient_bottom_color_hover=”” accent_color=”” accent_hover_color=”” type=”” bevel_color=”” border_width=”” border_radius=”” border_color=”” border_hover_color=”” size=”” stretch=”default” icon=”” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” s2id_autogen20=”” s2id_autogen20_search=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ s2id_autogen21=”” s2id_autogen21_search=”” animation_offset=””]Register Here[/fusion_button]

SUMMARY:Ultra X Azores 125
DESCRIPTION:Ultra X 125 Azores takes place on the island of São Miguel\, nicknamed “the Green Island”\, one of nine volcanic islands based out in the mid-Atlantic that form the Azores archipelago. \nGoverned by Portugal\, this wild and remote archipelago is characterised by dramatic landscapes\, fishing villages\, mountain trails\, lagoons\, and luscious green pastures. Due to the marine influence\, the climate of the Azores is very mild for such a northerly location and temperatures remain around 20°C all year round.

SUMMARY:ULTRA X JORDAN - Ultra Marathon October 2021
DESCRIPTION:Ultra X Jordan (previously the Wadi Rum Ultra) takes place in the land of Lawrence of Arabia. The mystical desert course takes competitors past historic sites\, into dramatic wadis and over magnificent sand dunes. \nWadi Rum’s nickname is “The Valley of the Moon” and participants will quickly see why. Its landscape\, characterised by unique towering rock formations\, is truly mind-blowing\, as is the challenge. As locations go\, this place is unrivalled in its beauty. \nWe are dreaming of the desert! \nDid you know that Ultra X Jordan was our first event? From 2016 to 2018 it was called the Wadi Rum Ultra. In 2017\, Sam and Jamie (the co-founders) met\, Sam was running and Jamie was the Race Director! The two got on and the rest is history! \nHere is why we think you should be joining us this October: \n1) The Course \nOur race course\, which changes slightly each year will take participants on a grand tour of Wadi Rum’s protected region. You’ll pass through canyons\, dried up riverbeds and occasionally over big sand dunes. \n2) The History \nThe desert is steeped in history. Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British Army officer T. E. Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia\, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. \nIf Wadi Rum isn’t enough for you\, the opportunity to visit the Lost City of Petra on the Saturday after the race certainly will be. \nPetra will take your breath away. The area is thought to have been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC and was once a major regional trading hub used by the Nabataean people. The Cederberg Mountains\, burnt orange by iron oxide\, dominate the landscape. Jagged sandstone rock formations\, like the Maltese Cross and the Wolfberg Arch\, and ancient San and Khoi rock art\, make this area truly spectacular. \nThe Cederberg lies 250km north of Cape Town\, stretching from the Middelberg Pass in Citrusdal to north of the Pakhuis Pass at Clanwilliam. The wilderness encompasses about 71 000 hectares of rugged\, mountainous terrain\, making it a top spot in the Western Cape for hiking and rock-climbing enthusiasts. \nThe Cederberg\, which forms part of the Cape floral Region\, is a World Heritage Site\, is covered in mountain fynbos\, including the laurel protea\, the red disa\, rooibos\, and the rare and endemic snow protea. Rare Clanwilliam cedars\, the area’s namesake\, dot the higher mountain cliffs. \nThe area is also rich in wildlife. Visitors with a keen eye may spot porcupines\, honey badger\, the Cape clawless otter and aardvark. The lucky few may even catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard. There are also smaller predators like the African wild cat\, lynx\, bat-eared fox\, aardwolf and Cape fox. Other\, more common animals include baboons\, dassies\, grey rhebok\, klipspringers\, duiker and grysbok. \nTo find out more\, download the Cederberg Wilderness brochure. \nAlgeria\nFrom Cape Town: Take the N7 highway. Stay on the N7 past Citrusdal\, after 28km take the Cederberg/Algeria turn-off to the right. Follow this main gravel road for 17km you will see the office complex and accommodation and campsite access road on your left. This is a 250km drive\, which should take about three hours. \n \n

Two hours down the river is a beach with strange shaped boulders that resemble sculptures and this is the lunch spot \nOutdoor lunch by the river is always an enchanting experience. It also gives everyone a break from paddling and time to take in the scenery. After lunch continue paddling down to a large gorge called the Trishuli gorge. Here it is narrow and the walls very steep causing the river to accelerate through it. We then have breakfast and drive towards the beautiful lake city Pokhara.\n\nSunday 14th November 2021\nToday is a day for you to explore one of the many things available. Pokhara is a great place for Mountain bike hire or there are lots of places to visit. \nThe Phewa Lake\, the second largest lake in Nepal\, adds to the enthralling beauty of Pokhara. The changing light of the sun on the Phewa Lake provides aesthetic calmness to the lovers of nature. On the eastern side of the lake\, visitors can find a cluster of restaurants and pubs. Along with these attractions\, boating\, sailing\, kayaking\, canoeing\, swimming\, bird watching\, fishing and angling are some of the activities which you can participate in at Phewa Lake. In the midst of the lake stands the Varahi Temple\, where animal and bird sacrifices are offered to the goddess Varahi by Hindu worshippers every Saturday. \nDavid’s Fall is a charming little waterfall located about 2 km southwest of the Pokhara Airport on the Siddhartha Highway. Also located very close to David’s Fall is GupteswarGupha\, a mysteriously sacred cave that holds special value for Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is perfectly preserved here in the condition it was discovered in. Locally\, it is also named as GupteswarMahadev. \nBindybasini Temple is the oldest religious shrine in Pokhara built in the 16th century. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga where Hindu worshippers flock to perform sacrifices\, especially on Saturday. \nSetiGandaki Gorge\, a wonder of nature that goes underground\, vanishing from sight in many places along its route through the city. At various points the river is barely two meters wide and cuts a deep\, narrow valley. . A good spot for watching the river below is MahendraPul\, a small bridge at the center of the city. \nWorld Peace Pagoda\, a massive Buddhist stupa\, is an impressive site in Pokhara situated on top of a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. Besides being an impressive sight in itself\, the Buddhist shrine is a great vantage point which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara City.\n\nMonday 15th November 2021\nWe fly back to Kathmandu today. On the way we can enjoy great views of Annapurna South\, Hiunchuli\, Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) and Ganggapurna. A steep descent takes us to the KimrongKhola. It is only after reaching the Himalaya Hotel that the forest opens up and we are out in the sun again with astounding views of the glacial river below. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here we can see the trail drop closer to the river before climbing again to Deurali\, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser\, allowing magical views of the valley\, the river below\, and the sheer rock-face cliffs above with bands of wispy waterfalls. Overnight in Deurali.\n \nSunday 14th November 2021\nDeurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4\,130m/13\,545ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12135ft): 5- 6 hours \nClimb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli\, Annapurna South\, Annapurna I\, Annapurna III\, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here\, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre\, Annapurna South \, Annapurna I\, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp. \nMonday 15th November 2021\nAnnapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hours\nFrom the Annapurna base camp we retrace our steps to Bamboo. Today’s trek is downhill\, so it shouldn’t be very difficult. Today we will have an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which is just a 15-20 minute downhill walk from JhinuDanda to soothe our aching body. Overnight in JhinuDanda. \nWednesday 17th November 2021\nTrek to NayaPul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hours trek\, 1 hour drive\nOn our way to NayaPul from Jhinu Danda\, we get to enjoy the amazing hill landscape of western Nepal.
