SUMMARY:ULTRA X JORDAN - Ultra Marathon October 2021
DESCRIPTION:Ultra X Jordan (previously the Wadi Rum Ultra) takes place in the land of Lawrence of Arabia. The mystical desert course takes competitors past historic sites\, into dramatic wadis and over magnificent sand dunes. \nWadi Rum’s nickname is “The Valley of the Moon” and participants will quickly see why. Its landscape\, characterised by unique towering rock formations\, is truly mind-blowing\, as is the challenge. As locations go\, this place is unrivalled in its beauty. \nWe are dreaming of the desert! \nDid you know that Ultra X Jordan was our first event? From 2016 to 2018 it was called the Wadi Rum Ultra. In 2017\, Sam and Jamie (the co-founders) met\, Sam was running and Jamie was the Race Director! The two got on and the rest is history! \nHere is why we think you should be joining us this October: \n1) The Course \nOur race course\, which changes slightly each year will take participants on a grand tour of Wadi Rum’s protected region. You’ll pass through canyons\, dried up riverbeds and occasionally over big sand dunes. \n2) The History \nThe desert is steeped in history. Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British Army officer T. E. Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia\, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. \nIf Wadi Rum isn’t enough for you\, the opportunity to visit the Lost City of Petra on the Saturday after the race certainly will be. \nPetra will take your breath away. The area is thought to have been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC and was once a major regional trading hub used by the Nabataean people. For the film buffs among you\, it’s fame was amplified in Indiana Jones\, The Last Crusade \n  \n\n\n\n\nMEDAL RIBBONS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll finishers will receive a race medal. Different medal ribbons will be awarded based upon the finishing times outlined below. \nAs part of our Sustainability Policy\, the Green Ribbon will be awarded to the competitor that displays the highest commitment to reducing their environmental impact both in preparation for and during the race (as determined by the organisers). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBLACK RIBBON\n\nUnder 27 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHITE RIBBON\n\nUnder 30 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBLUE RIBBON\n\nOver 30 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nINCLUDED:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Race entry \n2. Accommodation during the race (3-8 October) \n3. Transfers between Amman and Wadi Rum desert \n4. Medical staff on course and at all campsites \n5. Osteopathy staff on course and at all campsites \n6. Drinking water at checkpoints on course and hot water\nfor preparing food at all campsites \n7. Individual/team rankings and ITRA points \n11. Finisher’s medal \n\n\n\nNOT INCLUDED:\n\n\n\n\n1. Flights \n2. Accommodation before or after the race (accommodation at the race hotel can be purchased as an add-on at checkout) \n3. Personal food\, kit and equipment (see kit list below) \n4. The 66811 ha of mountainous terrain is located in the Cape Floral Region only three hours outside Cape Town\, but it feels like a different world. The Cederberg Mountains\, burnt orange by iron oxide\, dominate the landscape. Jagged sandstone rock formations\, like the Maltese Cross and the Wolfberg Arch\, and ancient San and Khoi rock art\, make this area truly spectacular. \nThe Cederberg lies 250km north of Cape Town\, stretching from the Middelberg Pass in Citrusdal to north of the Pakhuis Pass at Clanwilliam. The wilderness encompasses about 71 000 hectares of rugged\, mountainous terrain\, making it a top spot in the Western Cape for hiking and rock-climbing enthusiasts. \nThe Cederberg\, which forms part of the Cape floral Region\, is a World Heritage Site\, is covered in mountain fynbos\, including the laurel protea\, the red disa\, rooibos\, and the rare and endemic snow protea. Rare Clanwilliam cedars\, the area’s namesake\, dot the higher mountain cliffs. \nThe area is also rich in wildlife. Visitors with a keen eye may spot porcupines\, honey badger\, the Cape clawless otter and aardvark. The lucky few may even catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard. There are also smaller predators like the African wild cat\, lynx\, bat-eared fox\, aardwolf and Cape fox. Other\, more common animals include baboons\, dassies\, grey rhebok\, klipspringers\, duiker and grysbok. \nTo find out more\, download the Cederberg Wilderness brochure. \nAlgeria\nFrom Cape Town: Take the N7 highway. Stay on the N7 past Citrusdal\, after 28km take the Cederberg/Algeria turn-off to the right. Follow this main gravel road for 17km you will see the office complex and accommodation and campsite access road on your left. This is a 250km drive\, which should take about three hours. \n \n

The changing light of the sun on the Phewa Lake provides aesthetic calmness to the lovers of nature. On the eastern side of the lake\, visitors can find a cluster of restaurants and pubs. Along with these attractions\, boating\, sailing\, kayaking\, canoeing\, swimming\, bird watching\, fishing and angling are some of the activities which you can participate in at Phewa Lake. In the midst of the lake stands the Varahi Temple\, where animal and bird sacrifices are offered to the goddess Varahi by Hindu worshippers every Saturday. \nDavid’s Fall is a charming little waterfall located about 2 km southwest of the Pokhara Airport on the Siddhartha Highway. Also located very close to David’s Fall is GupteswarGupha\, a mysteriously sacred cave that holds special value for Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is perfectly preserved here in the condition it was discovered in. Locally\, it is also named as GupteswarMahadev. \nBindybasini Temple is the oldest religious shrine in Pokhara built in the 16th century. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga where Hindu worshippers flock to perform sacrifices\, especially on Saturday. \nSetiGandaki Gorge\, a wonder of nature that goes underground\, vanishing from sight in many places along its route through the city. At various points the river is barely two meters wide and cuts a deep\, narrow valley. . A good spot for watching the river below is MahendraPul\, a small bridge at the center of the city. \nWorld Peace Pagoda\, a massive Buddhist stupa\, is an impressive site in Pokhara situated on top of a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here we can see the trail drop closer to the river before climbing again to Deurali\, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser\, allowing magical views of the valley\, the river below\, and the sheer rock-face cliffs above with bands of wispy waterfalls. Overnight in Deurali.\n \nSunday 14th November 2021\nDeurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4\,130m/13\,545ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12135ft): 5- 6 hours \nClimb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli\, Annapurna South\, Annapurna I\, Annapurna III\, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here\, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre\, Annapurna South \, Annapurna I\, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp. \nMonday 15th November 2021\nAnnapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hours\nFrom the Annapurna base camp we retrace our steps to Bamboo. SUMMARY:The Original Grim Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Grim Challenge 2022\nThe GRIM is one of the original muddy/trail/obstacle races with a history that dates back to 2003. After a COVID absence in 2020\, it bounced back strongly in 2021 with more than 1000 runners taking part in the event. It returns in 2022 in much the same format: the route takes you over Army vehicle testing ground in Aldershot with two distance options\, a main race 8-miler and a lighter version over a shorter 4-mile course. \nAlthough the GRIM is a tough trail race in which you will certainly find yourself at times cold\, wet and dirty\, it is not an obstacle race\, it’s a running event. We don’t build any ramps\, walls or swings on the course. All the obstacles are natural\, formed by tanks driving over the route or by incessant rain in the weeks leading up to the event. Of course\, at this stage\, we can’t guarantee the rain but it’s never let us down before! In a few places\, you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading though waist-high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it aptly named when you have run it. \nWe also have a new charity partner… Combat Stress. \nCombat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century\, it has helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, anxiety and depression. Today it provides specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict\, focusing on those with complex mental health issues. \nThe work it does is life-changing and often life-saving. We are delighted to be working and supporting the work Combat Stress at the GRIM Challenge. The charity will have a number of runners raising money for its important work through the event\, if you would like to join them send an e-mail to events@combatstress.org.uk \nFor more information about Combat Stress go to\, https://combatstress.org.uk \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:South Downs Trail Half Marathon & 10km\, QE Park Petersfield
DESCRIPTION:The South Downs Trail Half Marathon and accompanying 10K are two of the classic trail runs in the South of England. They both start and finish at QE Country Park and run out to join the South Downs Way on a network of Bridle Paths through beautiful downland and forested countryside.  In 2022 we introduced Canicross waves for the first time. They were a great success\, and they will be returning in 2023 with a Canicross wave starting before the main races and a separate Canicross prize list. \n\n\n\nHalf Marathon\n\n\n\nStarting at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield\, the half marathon follows a route through the Country Park\, then across fields to the Village of Chalton before picking up the Sussex Border Path\, bringing you to the South Downs Way. The route then returns\, running west for 4 miles on the South Downs Way back through QE Park to the finish. \n\n\n\nWe are planning to have two wave starts for the half marathon in 2022 to prevent congestion at the stile after 3.5miles and to maintain social distancing before the start: \n\n\n\n\n9:55am       Canicross Wave\n\n\n\n10 am Half-Marathon wave 1\n\n\n\n10.10 am    Half-Marathon wave 2\n\n\n\n10.20 am    10Km\n\n\n\n\nThe half marathon field has wave starts to avoid congestion in the early part of the course\, where there are a couple of narrow sections on the route. The waves will be split on estimated finishing times\, with the faster runners starting first. Prizes for the first three male and female finishers will be awarded to the first three to cross the line\, so if you think you have a chance of winning\, please make sure you start in the first wave. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: HALF MARATHON ROUTE PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\n10K Trail Run\n\n\n\nTaking in the first 2.4 miles of the half marathon route\, the 10K course will divide and run on the Staunton Way up to where it joins the South Downs Trail as it enters QE Park at the Buriton Gate. The route then returns to the finish along the same route as the half marathon (South Downs Way). Essentially the route is a gradual climb up to halfway\, then a downhill return to the finish at the base of Butser Hill. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: 10KM ROUTE & PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\nTime Table \n\n\n\n\n09.55 am: Canicross Wave Start for Half and 10K Start and Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.00 am:  Wave 1 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.10 am:  Wave 2 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.20 am:  10km Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n\nPRICES\n\n\n\nHalf Marathon: Up to 30 Apr £32 (£35 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £37 (£40 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n10km: Up to 30 Apr £22 ((£25 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £27 (£30 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n(Entry prices include all registration platform fees.
