SUMMARY:Summer 10K
DESCRIPTION:Where is it?\n\n\n\n\nCoombe Abbey Park\, Coventry is run and managed by Coventry City Council. The What 3 Words location is here.\n\n\n\n\nParking costs up £3 for 1-2 hours. There is a toilet block next to the HQ on site. Coombe Abbey Park (CV3 2AB) is on the outskirts of Coventry and 6 minutes from Junction 2 of the M6. The closest train station is Coventry. \n\n\n\nIf you want to see what the venue is like watch the venue preview here. \n\n\n\nCan I run with my dog?\n\n\n\n\nNo\, it’s likely to be too warm\, even later in the day to be running with dogs.\n\n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nYou’ll be running through woodland\, meadow and over grass fields. Depending on the weather leading up to the event this could mean muddy\, not so muddy or rock hard! There will be exposed trees roots\, uneven surfaces and a few gates to navigate but the running will always have a view. \n\n\n\nThe route is undulating but not hilly. A truly great venue and route! \n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\n\nBefore 11/06/2025 £16\n\n\n\nAfter 11/06/2025 £21\n\n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Why not join your local running club or sign up the Big Bear Brigade and save 10% off entries for ever! \n\n\n\nHow far is the race?\n\n\n\n10k! This might seem a bit pointless to mention given the name but this is different to a normal Big Bear Event. You’ll get the same love\, a medal and some goodies but you can’t run all night! \n\n\n\nI’ve heard you do cupless events?\n\n\n\nYes\, but not for this event. Unlike our other events we will have some biodegradable cups with water/electrolyte available on the course. If you have a foldable/collapsible cup you can bring\, even better but we don’t insist on it for our short races. \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes! We have won a Racecheck Gold Award for this event in 2024 and have won Gold awards in previous years. It has over 150 reviews scoring it at 4.8 out of 5! You’ll love it! \n\n\n\nI’m not that fussed by a medal..\n\n\n\nIn that case our partnership with Earth Runs will be perfect! Rather than give you a medal you don’t really want (and to help reduce waste) we’ll give you a Big Bear Tree Token. Not only will a tree be planted for each token given out but the token is also full of wildflower seeds for you to grow at home! \n\n\n\nIs there a cut-off?\n\n\n\nEffectively 2 hours. This is how long the medics are booked for. The hope is that cut-off shouldn’t exclude anyone from entering. Please do contact us if that is the case. We do have to be conscious of the sunset too!

SUMMARY:TrailFest - Salcey Forest
DESCRIPTION:What is TrailFest?\n\n\n\nIt’s a day of moving around wonderful woodland for all abilities\, speeds and experiences. Whether you’re an experienced ultra runner keen to get an early season 50 km in or a newbie trail runner looking to do their first 10K TrailFest is for you! \n\n\n\nWe’ve got 4 distances for you to choose from 10K\, half marathon\, marathon and 50 km. A distance to suit everyone! \n\n\n\nThe idea of the day is to bring everyone together and to experience the fun of trail running in a fantastic forest. Being around others doing what seems impossible can often make it seem a lot more possible\, too!! If you want to come and run your personal best or bimble about with your mates\, we’ve got the perfect distance for you. \n\n\n\nWe’ve got very generous cut-off times\, too\, to try and remove some of those barriers to new people trying out the sport. \n\n\n\nWhere is it?\n\n\n\nSalcey Forest is a Forestry England site with a café and toilets near Northampton. Use the post code NN7 2HX for Sat Navs . It is here on What 3 Words. \n\n\n\nYou do have to pay to park (between £4-£8 at the time of writing). That said\, be a hero and car share\, save money and the world! \n\n\n\nThe number 33 bus stops inside Salcey Forest (just after 9am) and goes between Northampton and Milton Keynes (check for Sunday times) \n\n\n\nIt is 18 minutes from Northampton and 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1. The closest train station is Northampton. \n\n\n\nCan I run with my dog?\n\n\n\nNot at these events. As the event is run under a UK Athletics/ Trail Running Association license there are no dogs allowed at any of the events. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nThe different routes are all on the specific event pages; however\, they all use similar sections of the forest. \n\n\n\nThe majority of the routes are along well-maintained pathways. There isn’t a meter of asphalt (except 2 road crossings for the longer events!)\, and the pathways are mainly crushed stone or very well-trodden open forest floor. Obviously\, being in the middle of a forest\, the narrower ones are covered in tree detritus and can become a bit muddy and grimy\, especially when wet. There are a few sections across the grassland. If we are experiencing a wet winter\, expect these to be muddy or waterlogged. Potentially very muddy and very waterlogged! \n\n\n\nPlan to do this event in trail shoes\, if it’s suitable for road shoes we’ve had a dry winter! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\n10K \n\n\n\n\nBefore 06/03/2025 £20\n\n\n\nAfter 06/03/2025 £25\n\n\n\n\nHalf Marathon \n\n\n\n\nBefore 06/03/2025 £35\n\n\n\nAfter 06/03/2025 £40\n\n\n\n\nMarathon \n\n\n\n\nBefore 06/03/2025 £50\n\n\n\nAfter 06/03/2025 £55\n\n\n\n\n50K \n\n\n\n\nBefore 06/03/2025 £60\n\n\n\nAfter 06/03/2025 £70\n\n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Why not join your local running club or sign up the Big Bear Brigade and save 10% off entries for ever! If you had been on our Very Important Bear mailing list\, you could have saved 20% before the event was launched! \n\n\n\nCan I run as many laps as I want?\n\n\n\nNot at this event. This may seem an odd question to answer but given the majority of our events are 6 hour lapped events it’s one I’m sure people will have! \n\n\n\nWhat are the timings for each event?\n\n\n\n50 km \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Open – 07:00\n\n\n\nEvent Start – 08:00\n\n\n\n\nMarathon \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Open – 07:00\n\n\n\nEvent Start – 08:30\n\n\n\n\nHalf Marathon \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Open – 08:00\n\n\n\nEvent Start – 09:00\n\n\n\n\n10 km \n\n\n\n\nRegistration Open – 08:00\n\n\n\nEvent Start – 09:00\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan I have a crew or pacers?\n\n\n\nYes and no. You can have crew\, they’re really helpful for more extended events but you cannot have pacers. To be clear\, that means no-one can run with you or walk alongside you for any period of time except in the final 100m. \n\n\n\nWe actively encourage spectators and supporters\, but they must not move along the trail with you. They can pop up all over the course though – or just stay in the cafe all day”! \n\n\n\nThere is a large grass area near the HQ that can be used to put a gazebo up if your team\, club\, or supporters wish to. Just let us know beforehand if you plan to do this. \n\n\n\nAre there cut-offs?\n\n\n\nYes\, but they’re pretty generous! The cut-off for the event is 19:00. So for the 50 km event\, that means an 11-hour cut-off – 21min/mile pace. All other events have the same 19:00 cut-off – so that’s 10 hours to do the 10k! \n\n\n\nOur cut off’s aren’t mean to be punitive\, we just have to let volunteers and medics when they can go home! In the last 3 years\, only 1 person has been within 1 hour of an 11-hour cut-off on this course\, and they had about 30 minutes to spare. \n\n\n\nI’ve heard you do cupless events.\n\n\n\nThat’s right! Read all about how we do cupless events here \n\n\n\nIs there a mandatory kit?\n\n\n\nThis is different for different distances and strictly enforced for each piece of mandatory kit missing 1 hour will be added to your finish time. For 10k entrants\, there is no mandatory kit\, although a cup/bottle for water is strongly recommended. There are NO CUPS at this event. If you don’t carry a cup you cannot drink water! Half marathon entrants a cup/bottle capable of holding 200ml minimum is mandatory. Marathon & 50k entrants must have water carry capacity for 500ml minimum\, foil blanket\, waterproof jacket (with taped seams) and a charged mobile phone. These are mandatory minimum’s if you want to carry more or extra kit then please do so\, this is to make you safe not to make you run to your best ability. \n\n\n\nWhat if I need to withdraw?\n\n\n\nIt happens. Injuries\, life events… forgetting you’ve booked it! You can see our specific withdrawal policy for the TrailFest events here. They are a little different to our other events but still much better than most other events companies. I think they are fairer than most\, and as such\, they will be adhered to. \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes! We’ve run at Salcey Forest many times in the past at TrailFest ran with great success last year for the first time too. You can read the reviews here \n\n\n\nI’m unsure what to expect at TrailFest?\n\n\n\nIt’s a great day of trail running in the forest. The format means it’s great for clubs and groups to support people doing varying distances\, and the generous cut-offs mean it’s great for those looking to increase their distances. Whatever your experience or ability we’ll do everything we can to support you for the day. \n\n\n\nWe’ve tried to make as much video content as possible so you can see what our events are like. Have a look at our YouTube channel. The key is that these events are for everyone. There is no such thing as too slow! \n\n\n\nWhat do I get when I finish?\n\n\n\nAll finishers will get one of the above medals. In addition\, finishers of the marathon and 50k distance will get a flapjack and a choice of Big Bear drink\, too. \n\n\n\nIs there a gpx of the route?\n\n\n\nThe routes can be found at the bottom of the page\, you can click on them to download the gpx. To be clear\, the course will be heavily marked on the day\, so the gpx files should only be necessary as a backup. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Petzl Night Runner - Salcey Forest
DESCRIPTION:Event Summary:\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, March 7\, 2025\n\n\n\n7:00 PM  9:00 PM\n\n\n\nSalcey Forest\, NN7 2HX\n\n\n\n\nWhere is it?\n\n\n\nSalcey Forest is a Forestry Commission site with a cafe and toilets near Northampton. Use the post code NN7 2HX for Sat Navs. You do have to pay to park (£2 for the evening at the time of writing). That said\, be a hero and car share\, save money and the world! It is 18 minutes from Northampton and 9 minutes from Junction 15 of the M1. The closest train station is Northampton If you want to see what the venue is like watch the venue preview here. \n\n\n\nWon’t it be dark? We hope so! You need a head or chest to torch to run in this event. No torch no run. \n\n\n\nOur friends from Petzl will be with us so you can test out the best head torches around on the night. If you’ve got a cheap headtorch from Amazon\, you’ll be able to tell the difference immediately. We’ll have more to announce on this closer to the event. \n\n\n\nWho are Petzl?\n\n\n\nPetzl are the industry leader in high-quality head torches. We’re very lucky to be hosting some of their “Night Runner” events. We’ve got 1 at Cannock Chase Forest and 2 at Salcey Forest this winter. There is a reason the top ultra runners in the world use their head torches\, when you need the trail lit up they are simply the best. When trail running at night you want to make sure youyr head torch won’t let you down and your Petzl won’t. \n\n\n\nThey’ll be at the event with their demo kit for you to try on before\, during or after the event. Can I run with my dog? Yes!! \n\n\n\nWe had canicross at our series last year and it was a great success. We request that your dog be lit up (lights on it’s harness rather than wrapping the dog in Christmas lights!)\, you keep your leads short and be considerate of the other runners. We’ll start the canicross runners off a couple of minutes before the main field. Please read our general canicross rules here. \n\n\n\nWe’ll confirm the exact timings for this closer to the event but it is likely the canicross start time will be around 18:50. Please make sure you enter the Canicross race when you click on the enter button above. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nGround conditions will depend very much on the weather closer to the event. It is fundamentally on crushed stone however with tree detritus the ground can become a bit slippy and mucky. The route is fully marked and essentially a 2 lap course. Salcey Forest is fundamentally flat – but any sort of uphill on a 10k feels like a mountain! \n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\nBefore 07/02/2025 £16 & After 07/02/2025 £21 \n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Why not join your local running club or sign up the Big Bear Brigade and save 10% off entries forever! Enter all 3 parts of the series for only £43/£49 up until the first event at Cannock Chase Forest closes for entry. Unlike our other events we will have some biodegradable cups with water/electrolyte available on the course and we will have hot drinks available before and after too. If you have a foldable cup you can bring\, even better but we don’t insist on it for our short races. \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes! We’ve won multiple Racecheck Gold Awards for these events and have over 150 reviews scoring us at 4.8 out of 5! Albeit under our previous name for these events. Different name\, same great event – you’ll love it! \n\n\n\nI’m not that fussed by a medal…\n\n\n\nIn that case our partnership with Earth Runs will be perfect! Rather than give you a medal you don’t really want (and to help reduce waste) we’ll give you a Big Bear Tree Token. Not only will a tree be planted for each token given out but the token is also full of wildflower seeds for you to grow at home!

SUMMARY:Squirrel Challenge 2025
DESCRIPTION:Event Summary:\n\n\n\n\nFriday\, January 24\, 2025\n\n\n\n9:00 AM  3:00 PM\n\n\n\nDaventry Country Park\, NN11 2JB Welton United Kingdom\n\n\n\n\nWhere is it?\n\n\n\nDaventry Country Park (NN11 2JB) is run and managed by West Northamptonshire Council. The What 3 Words location is here. \n\n\n\nParking costs between £2-8 depending on how long you stay. There is a cafe and toilet block on the route. \n\n\n\nThe County Park has a large car park\, cafe and children’s play area. It’s 20 minutes from M1 Junction 16. The closest train station is Long Buckby. \n\n\n\nWhat’s a 6-hour event?\n\n\n\nI’ve made a short video here to try to explain a little. \n\n\n\nIt is an event that enables all abilities of runner to run together (or hike/walk!). Ultimately you can run as many 5k laps as you wish in the time limit. You can run one lap in 20 minutes\, pick up your medal\, flapjack and beer and go home! Alternatively you can head out on your 15th lap at 14:55 and finish in 6:30 having covered over 50 miles! It’s completely up to you. \n\n\n\nThere is no pressure from us\, but we’ll also see if you want one more lap! The format is great for people looking to run further than they’ve ever done before\, do a long training run for future events or to enjoy a sociable event with your friends. \n\n\n\nCan I run with my dog?\n\n\n\nYes!! \n\n\n\nWe’ve had great success at events with canicross and we’re pleased to add this event too. You must keep your leads short and be considerate of the other runners. We’ll most likely start the canicross runners off with the main field depending on numbers. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nThe majority of the course is on relatively new crushed stone and so unless the weather has been awful it should be good running for the majority of the route (around 80% of the route). \n\n\n\nThe final route will be decided in the autumn due to new sections of country park being opened. The plan is to use these new sections. The course will be on pathways throughout\, however\, so although your trainers won’t be clean (it’s in January\, after all!)\, you won’t be thigh-high in the mud either! \n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\nBefore 01/01/2025 £35 \n\n\n\nAfter 01/01/2025 £40 \n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Why not join your local running club or sign up the Big Bear Brigade and save 10% off entries for ever! \n\n\n\nHow far is the race?\n\n\n\nYou decide! The 3.3-mile off-road loop means your race can be just over 5k or even over 80K and anywhere in between. You decide how many laps you’re going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you’re looking to cover a marathon distance you’ll need to complete 8 laps and a half marathon will be 4 laps. \n\n\n\n(NB. The course distance will be confirmed in the autumn along with the exact course as per the course description block) \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes. We’ve run at Daventry Country Park many times in the past. You can view previous results and the course records here. \n\n\n\nI’m unsure what to expect at a 6 hour event?\n\n\n\nWe’ve made some videos to try and help newcomers understand Big Bear Events and 6 hour events a little more here. We’ve got lots of videos on our You Tube channel that might help you see what we’re all about!. \n\n\n\nI’ve heard you do nice medals. What will it look like?\n\n\n\nOnce it’s in our hands\, we’ll share the design with you! \n\n\n\nIs this event suitable for Rucking?\n\n\n\nDefinitely! Read all about how we do rucking here (or if you’ve no idea what rucking is find out here too!) \n\n\n\nIs there a gpx of the route?\n\n\n\nOnce the route is confirmed it will be here. \n\n\n\nThe route may be subject to last-minute changes\, and there will be plenty of markings up on race day\, so you do not need to have this – but I know some of you like to anyway! \n\n\n\nI really want to take part in the event but the day isn’t convenient for me! What can I do?\n\n\n\nWe’ve partnered with our friends at Skamper to offer On-demand events! It’s not quite the same as being there on the day but it’s the next best thing! Using the Skamper app you can be directed around the route on your chosen day. When you sign up we’ll send you the medal in the post that was given out on the day of the event. This way\, when you finish\, you’ll be able to claim the medal you’ve earned for the run straight away! Why not load your car boot with snacks and goodies\, get some mates to join you and have your own Big Bear event? \n\n\n\nI still have questions…\n\n\n\nThen why not join our Big Bear Events Facebook group and ask our ever-so-experienced runners in there or email us directly here? We want you to enter with the confidence you’ll have a great (if not tiring!) day so are happy to answer any question we’ve not covered off her

SUMMARY:The GRIM Original Challenge 2024
DESCRIPTION:ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR BOTH DISTANCES! \nThe GRIM is one of the original muddy/trail/obstacle races with a history that dates back to 2003. After a COVID absence in 2020\, it bounced back strongly\, with more than 1000 runners taking part in the 2022 & 2023 events. It returns in 2024 in much the same format: the route takes you over Army vehicle testing ground in Aldershot with two distance options\, a main race 8-miler and a lighter version over a shorter 4-mile course. \nAlthough the GRIM is a tough trail race in which you will certainly find yourself at times cold\, wet and dirty\, it is not an obstacle race\, it’s a running event. We don’t build any ramps\, walls or swings on the course. All the obstacles are natural\, formed by tanks driving over the route or by incessant rain in the weeks leading up to the event. Of course\, at this stage\, we can’t guarantee the rain but it’s never let us down before! In a few places\, you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading through waist-high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it is aptly named when you have run it. \nEntries close on 28th November at NOON. \nOur 2023 charity partner Combat Stress is back for 2024! If you wanT to make your run count\, select the check box when you enter and a member of the Combat Stress fundraising team will be in touch! \nCombat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century\, it has helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, anxiety and depression. Today it provides specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict\, focusing on those with complex mental health issues. \nThe work it does is life-changing and often life-saving. We are delighted to be working and supporting the work Combat Stress at the GRIM Challenge. The charity will have a number of runners raising money for its important work through the event\, if you would like to join them send  an e-mail to events@combatstress.org.uk \nFor more information about Combat Stress go to\, https://combatstress.org.uk

Please read our general canicross rules here. Please make sure you enter the canicross race when you click on the enter button above. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nThe route is along well-maintained pathways. There isn’t a meter of asphalt and the pathways are mainly crushed stone or very well trodden open forest floor. Obviously\, being in the middle of a forest\, the narrower ones are covered in tree detritus and can become a bit muddy and grimy\, especially when wet. On a dry day road shoes will be perfectly acceptable\, on a wet day trail shoes may be a better bet as some parts can become a bit slippy. \n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\n\nBefore 20/10/2024 £35\n\n\n\nAfter 20/10/2024 £40\n\n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. The 3.5-mile off-road loop means your race can be 5k or even over 80K and anywhere in between. You decide how many laps you’re going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you’re looking to cover a marathon distance\, you’ll need to complete 7 laps (+ a little out and back)\, and a half marathon will be 3 laps (+ an out and back). \n\n\n\nWhat’s an Altra try-on event?\n\n\n\nOur friends at Altra will be coming along with a complete set of a few different models of their amazing foot-shaped shoes for you to try out on the trails! Simply take your size out for a lap or 3 and see what you think. \n\n\n\nI\, Paul\, am I a big fan of Altra and have been wearing them pretty much exclusivly since 2018. They are different (in a good way!)\, and so being able to go for an actual run on an actual trail is a great opportunity. The lapped format means if you don’t get on with them it’s just one lap of discomfort – not your whole event! \n\n\n\nNo catches\, no hard sell and no ruined event! We’re just trying to add something else to your day. \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes. We’ve run at Salcey Forest many times in the past. You can view previous results and the course records here. \n\n\n\nI’m not that fussed by a medal\, drink and flapjack.\n\n\n\nIn that case our partnership with Trees Not Tees may be of interest! When you sign up for this event\, you can select to have no finish line swag\, and instead\, we’ll donate the cost of this to Trees Not Tees\, who will plant a tree in their Scottish woodland on your behalf! You can find more info about this initiative here. \n\n\n\nIs there a gpx of the route?\n\n\n\nThe route gpx can be found here\, or visit plotaroute.com here. The route may be subject to last minute changes and there will be plenty of markings up on race day so you do not need to have this – but I know some of you like to anyway! \n\n\n\nI’m unsure what to expect at a 6-hour event.\n\n\n\nWe’ve made some videos to try and help newcomers understand Big Bear Events and 6 hour events a little more here. SUMMARY:THAMES TRAIL ULTRA
DESCRIPTION:A 47-MILE POINT-TO-POINT ALONG ENGLAND’S LONGEST RIVER\n\n\n\nEVENT SUMMARY:\n\n\n\nWHENSaturday 19th October 2024 Registration from 07:00. Start 08:15. \n\n\n\nENTRY FEE£67.00 (includes a tracker) \n\n\n\nThis demanding run along the Thames is one of the most popular events in the British ultra-running calendar. \n\n\n\nPreviously known as the Thames Trot\, the event takes in 47 miles from Iffley in Oxfordshire to Henley-on-Thames. \n\n\n\nOur runners will enjoy the company of England’s largest river as it makes its way past ever-changing scenery\, beautiful houses and traditional rowing clubs. Expect everything from tarmac paths to muddy trails on this interesting and challenging course. \n\n\n\nThe run follows both the Thames Path and Ridgeway National Trails\, so entrants should be careful not to forget the words ‘National Trail’ rather than simply reading Thames Path. \n\n\n\nStarting around three miles south of Oxford\, the race heads from Hawkwell House Hotel down to Iffley Lock and across the river. It then follows the towpath through the picturesque towns and villages of the region to Henley-on-Thames. \n\n\n\nThere will be a new race finish for 2024 at the YMCA Y Centre\, in Lawson Road\, Henley-on-Thames. This will mean runners will be able to access showers\, hot food and drinks\, and changing facilities at the end of the race – more details can be found here. \n\n\n\nWe are proud to say that this race is an Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc index race. \n\n\n\nIF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS\, PLEASE CALL 07989850170.

DESCRIPTION:Event Summary\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, October 1\, 2024\n\n\n\n7:00 PM  9:00 PM\n\n\n\nCanncok Chase\, WS15 2UQ\n\n\n\n\nWhere is it?\n\n\n\nBirches Valley Forest Centre at Cannock Chase\, Staffordshire\, WS15 2UQ. The What 3 Words location is here. It is managed by Forestry England. \n\n\n\nParking is £6 for 2 hours and £9 for 3 hours and functions on ANPR. You can pay by card or coin. \n\n\n\nWe are hopeful we’ll be able to secure an event parking rate at a much reduced rate. This will be confirmed closer to the event. \n\n\n\nThe nearest train stations Rugeley Trent Valley\, and Rugeley Town\, are both approximately 2 miles away \n\n\n\nIf you want to see what the venue is like watch the venue preview here. \n\n\n\nWon’t it be dark?\n\n\n\nWe hope so! \n\n\n\nWho are Petzl?\n\n\n\nPetzl are the industry leader in high quality head torches. We’re very lucky to be hosting some of their “Night Runner” events. We’ve got 1 at Cannock Chase Forest and 2 at Salcey Forest this winter. \n\n\n\nThere is a reason the top ultra runners in the world use their head torches\, when you need the trail lit up they are simply the best. When trail running at night you want to make sure youyr head torch wont let you down and your Petzl wont. \n\n\n\nThey’ll be at the event with their demo kit for you to try on before\, during or after the event. \n\n\n\nCan I run with my dog?\n\n\n\nYes!! \n\n\n\nWe’ve held many night time 10k’s with canicross and it’s been great success. \n\n\n\nPlease make sure you enter the Canicross race when you click on the enter button above. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nGround conditions will depend very much on the weather closer to the event. It is predominantly on crushed stone however\, with tree detritus the ground can become a bit slippy and mucky\, you’ll never be in ankle deep mud though. There are a few sections on more exposed grass paths\, trail shoes are advised. The route is fully marked and effectively a 2 lap course. Cannock Chase is hilly!

DESCRIPTION:EVENT SUMMARY\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, September 10\, 2024\n\n\n\n9:00 AM  3:00 PM\n\n\n\nKingsbury Water Park\, B76 0DY (map)\n\n\n\n\nEVENT INFORMATION\n\n\n\nWhere Is It?\n\n\n\nKingsbury Water Park is near Sutton Coldfield\, B76 0DY. The What 3 Words location is here. It is managed by Warwickshire County Council. Parking costs £4.95. There is a cafe and toilet block next to the HQ on site. The nearest train station Coleshill Parkway is approximately 5 miles away. \n\n\n\nWhat’s a 6-hour event?\n\n\n\nI’ve made a short video here to try to explain a little. It is an event that enables all abilities of runner to run together (or hike/walk!). Ultimately you can run as many 5k laps as you wish in the time limit. You can run one lap in 20 minutes\, pick up your medal\, flapjack and beer and go home! Alternatively\, you can head out on your 15th lap at 14:55 and finish in 6:30\, having covered over 50 miles! It’s completely up to you. \n\n\n\nThere is no pressure from us\, but we’ll also see if you want one more lap! The format is great for people looking to run further than they’ve ever done before\, do a long training run for future events\, or enjoy a sociable event with your friends. \n\n\n\nCourse description\n\n\n\nThe route takes you around many of the pools of Kingsbury Water Park. The conditions underfoot are mixed with sections of grass\, gravel tracks and a few very short sections of asphalt. the views are great\, and you’re guaranteed to see a plethora of wildfowl. \n\n\n\nGround conditions will depend very much on the weather at the time of the event. Kingsbury Water Park floods very easily\, and if there has been heavy rain\, the ground will be sodden. As always we’ll update runners closer to the event as to the exact conditions. \n\n\n\nWhat does it cost?\n\n\n\nWe operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter\, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee! \n\n\n\n\nBefore 10/08/2024 £35\n\n\n\nAfter 10/08/2024 £40\n\n\n\n\nUnaffiliated entrants pay £2 extra. Why not join your local running club or sign up for the Big Bear Brigade and save 10% off entries forever? \n\n\n\nHow far is the race?\n\n\n\nYou decide! The 3.3-mile lap at Kingsbury Water Park means your race can be just over 5k or\, given the relatively flat nature of the course\, potentially 50+ miles! You decide how many laps you are going to do on the day within the 6-hour time limit. If you’re looking to cover a marathon distance\, you’ll need to complete 8 laps\, and a half marathon will be 4 laps. \n\n\n\nHas the event been run before?\n\n\n\nYes\, many times! You can find the previous results here. \n\n\n\nI’m unsure what to expect at a 6-hour event?\n\n\n\nWe’ve made some videos to try and help newcomers understand Big Bear Events and 6 hour events a little more here. We’ve got lots of videos on our You Tube channel that might help you see what we’re all about! \n\n\n\nI’ve heard you do nice medals. What will it look like?\n\n\n\nOnce it’s in our hands\, we’ll share the design with you! \n\n\n\nI’m not that fussed by a medal\, drink and flapjack.\n\n\n\nIn that case\, our partnership with Trees Not Tees may be of interest! When you sign up for this event\, you can select to have no finish line swag\, and instead\, we’ll donate the cost of this to Trees Not Tees\, who will plant a tree in their Scottish woodland on your behalf! You can find more info about this initiative here. \n\n\n\nCan I run with my dog?\n\n\n\nNo\, our canicross season goes from October – March. \n\n\n\nIs there a gpx of the route?\n\n\n\nThe route gpx can be found here\, or visit plotaroute.com here. The route may be subject to last-minute changes\, and there will be plenty of markings up on race day\, so you do not need to have this – but I know some of you like to anyway! \n\n\n\nI really want to take part in the event but the day isn’t convenient for me! What can I do?\n\n\n\nWe’ve partnered with our friends at Skamper to offer On-demand events! It’s not quite the same as being there on the day but it’s the next best thing! Using the Skamper app you can be directed around the route on a day of your choosing. When you sign up we’ll send you the medal in the post that was given out on the day of the event. This way\, when you finish\, you’ll be able to claim the medal you’ve earned for the run straight away! Why not load your car boot with snacks and goodies\, get some mates to join you and have your own Big Bear event! \n\n\n\nFull details on our Big Bear On-Demand events are here.

SUMMARY:South Downs Trail Half Marathon & 10km\, QE Park Petersfield
DESCRIPTION:The South Downs Trail Half Marathon and accompanying 10K are two of the classic trail runs in the South of England. They both start and finish at QE Country Park and run out to join the South Downs Way on a network of Bridle Paths through beautiful downland and forested countryside.  In 2022 we introduced Canicross waves for the first time. They were a great success\, and they will be returning in 2023 with a Canicross wave starting before the main races and a separate Canicross prize list. \n\n\n\nHalf Marathon\n\n\n\nStarting at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield\, the half marathon follows a route through the Country Park\, then across fields to the Village of Chalton before picking up the Sussex Border Path\, bringing you to the South Downs Way. The route then returns\, running west for 4 miles on the South Downs Way back through QE Park to the finish. \n\n\n\nWe are planning to have two wave starts for the half marathon in 2022 to prevent congestion at the stile after 3.5miles and to maintain social distancing before the start: \n\n\n\n\n9:55am       Canicross Wave\n\n\n\n10 am Half-Marathon wave 1\n\n\n\n10.10 am    Half-Marathon wave 2\n\n\n\n10.20 am    10Km\n\n\n\n\nThe half marathon field has wave starts to avoid congestion in the early part of the course\, where there are a couple of narrow sections on the route. The waves will be split on estimated finishing times\, with the faster runners starting first. Prizes for the first three male and female finishers will be awarded to the first three to cross the line\, so if you think you have a chance of winning\, please make sure you start in the first wave. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: HALF MARATHON ROUTE PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\n10K Trail Run\n\n\n\nTaking in the first 2.4 miles of the half marathon route\, the 10K course will divide and run on the Staunton Way up to where it joins the South Downs Trail as it enters QE Park at the Buriton Gate. The route then returns to the finish along the same route as the half marathon (South Downs Way). Essentially the route is a gradual climb up to halfway\, then a downhill return to the finish at the base of Butser Hill. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: 10KM ROUTE & PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\nTime Table \n\n\n\n\n09.55 am: Canicross Wave Start for Half and 10K Start and Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.00 am:  Wave 1 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.10 am:  Wave 2 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.20 am:  10km Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n\nPRICES\n\n\n\nHalf Marathon: Up to 30 Apr £32 (£35 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £37 (£40 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n10km: Up to 30 Apr £22 ((£25 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £27 (£30 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n(Entry prices include all registration platform fees. SUMMARY:The Original Grim Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Grim Challenge 2022\nThe GRIM is one of the original muddy/trail/obstacle races with a history that dates back to 2003. After a COVID absence in 2020\, it bounced back strongly in 2021 with more than 1000 runners taking part in the event. It returns in 2022 in much the same format: the route takes you over Army vehicle testing ground in Aldershot with two distance options\, a main race 8-miler and a lighter version over a shorter 4-mile course. In a few places\, you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading though waist-high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it aptly named when you have run it. \nWe also have a new charity partner… Combat Stress. The charity will have a number of runners raising money for its important work through the event\, if you would like to join them send an e-mail to events@combatstress.org.uk \nFor more information about Combat Stress go to\, https://combatstress.org.uk \n  \n \n
