DESCRIPTION:GO TRI LOCAL – 50M SWIM\, 1.5K BIKE\, 650 RUN (OR LONGER)\n\n\n\nDate: January 3\, 2023\n\n\n\nLocation: Torbay Velopark\, Penwill Way\, Paignton\, TQ4 5JR\n\n\n\nGO TRI Local is ideal for people that are brand new to swimming\, biking and running and looking to take their first steps in a safe and enjoyable environment. Think of it as like Parkrun for Swim Bike Run. More experienced competitors are also welcome to take part. \n\n\n\nGO TRI Local Torbay is normally on the first Saturday of every month. It’s a fully off-road course that suitable for all ages & abilities. These opportunities are all about having fun and building your confidence. With the opportunities\, we have set out the minimum distances for each element of the event. The bike and run elements are lapped\, so you can do as much or as little that want on the day. eg more experienced people can do a 150m swim\, a 7.5K bike (5 laps of the velopark) and a 2k run which is 3 laps of our run course \n\n\n\nFAMILIES ENCOURAGED\n\n\n\nChildren as young as 6 (provided they can swim 25m) can take part with a responsible adult taking part with them. To book children\, please read our FAQs further down this page first. \n\n\n\nYou start with a pool-based swim\, followed by a Velopark ride on smooth\, flat tarmac and a flat parkland run. In the event of bad weather\, we may change the format to a duathlon or a reverse triathlon. \n\n\n\nWHAT YOU GET\n\n\n\n\nTraffic Free course\n\n\n\nFriendly safe environment\n\n\n\nFor children as young as 4 (with a responsible adult taking part with them)\n\n\n\nTiming & results provided\n\n\n\nNo upper age limit\n\n\n\nPublic liability insurance\n\n\n\nMarked course\n\n\n\nEntry is just £5 per person\n\n\n\n\nEVENT INFORMATION\n\n\n\n\nParking\n\n\n\n\nThere is plenty of parking in the Leisure Centre car park\, but you do need to pay for it! See en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/building/torbay-leisure-centre-torquay/ . There is some free parking available starting a few hundred metres from the Leisure Centre. \n\n\n\n\nFAQS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo I need to be a good swimmer or biker\, or runner to take part? \n\nAbsolutely not. You can swim as little as 50m or as much as 200m. You can even stop for a breather if you need to & breaststroke\, front crawl\, and even doggy paddle are all fine. It’s just backstroke that isn’t permitted. Similarly\, on the bike leg\, you’ll find the smooth\, flat tarmac very easy to ride on. And the run is also flat with enough time to walk around if you prefer.\n\n\nHow do I book my children onto GO TRI Local? \nWe have to use the British Triathlon booking system for GO TRI Local. It doesn’t currently have a ‘basket’ system\, but you can book multiple people using the same email address and password. See GO TRI Booking FAQ for more details.\n\n\nIs GO TRI Local every month? \nYes\, they are on the first Saturday of every month (except for May 2022\, where we had to move it forward a week due to a clash with a swimming gala. In the winter months\, we will probably switch the format to a duathlon (run bike run)\, aquabike (swim/indoor bike)\, or aquathlon (swim/run). Here are the first 12 confirmed dates. Swim from The Loggia with its Nymph’s Fountain inspired by the Trevi Fountain in Rome. \n\n\n\nRun through stunning castle grounds and surrounding villages\, and cycle through the Ashdown Forest and South Downs. \n\n\n\nThroughout the weekend\, athletes and spectators will be able to enjoy a fun-packed festival village featuring live music\, shopping\, food and drink\, children’s entertainment\, yoga and more. \n\n\n\nOur 2022 Festival Of Endurance event was a huge success; we expect 2023 to be even better! \n\n\n\nRACES\n\n\n\nFestival Of Endurance returns in 2023 for a day full of sporting excitement – highlights include our full iron distance\, The Bastion and half iron distance\, The Gauntlet and our 50 Miler ultra run. \n\n\n\nWe also have long-distance duathlons\, aquathlons\, aqua bikes\, and running and swimming races. \n\n\n\nThis year\, we have added new distances to the Festival Of Endurance program: 34 Miler Ultra Run\, 50 Miler Ultra Run Relay\, Marathon Run Relay\, 10K Swim Relay and the 5K Swim! \n\n\n\nWe hope you will be one of the first to participate in these exciting events! \n\n\n\nGOVERNING BODY\n\n\n\nWe are delighted to announce that British Triathlon governs this event. Recruit your friends and celebrate completing your challenge in our festival village. \n\n\n\nVENUE\n\n\n\nAt our weekend festival of sport\, you can swim through historical Castle Howard’s Great Lake\, cycle through the picturesque Howardian Hills and run through the undulating countryside of this stunning estate before a sprint finish tops everything off in style right in front of the Castle main doors! \n\n\n\nThroughout the weekend\, athletes and spectators will be able to enjoy a fun-packed festival village featuring live music\, shopping\, food and drink\, children’s entertainment\, yoga and more. \n\n\n\nRACES\n\n\n\nThis multisport weekend event at Castle Howard will host a huge range of races for all ages and abilities. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re 9 or 90 year old\, a first-timer or an elite\, you can pick from our triathlon\, duathlon\, aquabike\, aquathlon\, run and swim races. You can also race with a team of friends in one of our relay options! \n\n\n\nGOVERNING BODY\n\n\n\nThis is a British Triathlon permitted event. If you are taking part in a multisport event\, you must become a member of the sport and obtain a race licence to race. We will share the link here when it becomes available. \n\n\n\nWe’re delighted that this event has been awarded the 2024 Standard Distance Triathlon European Qualifier. Athletes MUST register their intent to qualify before 5 pm on Friday\, 21st July. \n\n\n\nThis event is also part of and qualifies for the 2023 Triathlon England Yorkshire Junior Series.
