SUMMARY:Oxford Classic 1 Mile Swim
DESCRIPTION:Oxford Classic 1 Mile Swim\nSwim Oxford is passionate about bringing you stunning open water swimming events in and around Oxford. From the Oxford Classic Mile to the marathon 10k Lock to Lock swim. Swim Oxford aims to cater for all abilities from those new to open water swimming through to experienced swimmers wanting to stretch themselves with a serious long distance swim. \nEvent Details\nYou will be swimming upstream\, so against the gentle flow of old Father Thames\, or Isis at this point. In September there is very little flow on the river\, but a more adventurous experience will be gained by all. \nSetting off from Donnington Bridge you will be swimming upstream towards Christ Church Meadows\, passing the historic bathing spot at Long Bridges on the left. All swimmers will be on the right hand side of the river in a well marked course and escorted by safety canoeist. You will swim past\, on your right the nature reserve\, know as Aston’s Eyot. Aston’s Eyot is a 33-acre island on the east bank of the River Thames in the city of Oxford\, southeast of Christ Church Meadow. \nMaking your way past the famous boat houses on the right \, heading towards the finish\, you will be faced with a large River Buoy\, a final turn around this and head back down stream towards the platform where you will exit. Once out of the water make your way to the changing tents and Swim Oxford refreshments tent. Enjoy this location in all its splendour within the heart of Oxford. \nFAQ \nDoes the river have a fast flow?\nThe flow differs from one day to the next based on factors such as rain fall\, opening of locks etc. The flow is generally fairly slow. \nWhich side of the river should I swim on?\nThe Environment Agency\, who grant us permission to run the Lock to Lock events\, ask that swimmers stay to the right of the river wherever possible. Boats and other river users also navigate on the right so\, as river users\, we need to adhere to the same rules. There are occasions when it is safer to swim closer to the middle of the river. On some of the tree-lined sections of the course there can be obstacles such as submerged branches and tree roots that could be dangerous or cause injury if snagged. Our safety kayakers will help alert you to these obstacles en-route. \nDo I have to wear a wetsuit?\nWetsuits are mandatory for this event unless you are an experienced open water swimmer and have our permission\, in writing\, in advance to swim without. \nWill I be safe in the water?\nSafety is our utmost concern. We have safety kayakers paddling with you along the length of the course and we have spotters on the shore. We also have medics at the event should you require any medical attention. \nWhat if I feel I can’t finish the swim?\nWe hope that everyone will have trained enough to complete the full length of the course. However we do realise that this may be the first time some participants have swum this distance in a river and we will have support boats nearby should you experience any difficulties. There will also be exit points along the course. \nIs the water clean?\nThe water will be tested to environmental safety standards before the swim. In 2015 the water test passed with a “high” cleanliness rating. \nWhat will the water temperature be?\nThe water temperature will very much depend on weather conditions leading up to the event. In September 2015 the water temperature was 15-17 degrees centigrade. \nIs there a chance of becoming ill during the swim?\nPublic Health England publish a leaflet on the risk of illness when open water swimming\, which can be viewed here. We always follow these guidelines and have never become unwell during or after swimming this stretch of the Thames. Public Health England recommend “before you swim to cover cuts\, scratches or sores with a waterproof plaster before swimming\, consider wearing appropriate protective clothing such as a wetsuit\, gloves and/or protective footwear. While you are swimming try to avoid swallowing and/or splashing water into your mouth\, observe local safety advice. After swimming ensure you clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water after swimming and before handling/eating food\, thoroughly clean cuts or abrasions using soap and water\, handle your wetsuit with care after use\, rinse it with clean water as soon as is practicable after swimming\, clean with detergent and rinse as advised by the manufacturer\, always wash your hands with soap and water after handling or cleaning your wetsuit and allow the suit to dry thoroughly before reuse.” \nWhere can I park?\nCar parks will be either at the Sea Scouts field next door to the Falcon Rowing club site and/or Freelands Road\, opposite to Falcon Rowing club near Donnington Bridge. \nSo I park at the start of the swim course. How do I get back to my car?\nOptions:\nPublic transport\, bus from the finish point Folly bridge back to Donnington Bridge 10 minute ride.\nTake the wonderful walk on the tow path less than a mile back to your car\, recommended. \nWhere will the toilets be?\nToilets will be at the start point and finish point. \nWhat do I do with my bags?\nAt the start once you have registered & changed into your wetsuit you can then hand in your bags that will be transported to the finish. SUMMARY:Swim Serpentine London
DESCRIPTION:  \nEntries are now open for the new events that have been added to Swim Serpentine\, the open water swimming festival that will return to Hyde Park on Saturday 16 September 2017. \nSwimmers now have the choice of a half-mile and two-mile swim\, in addition to the hugely popular one-mile mass-participation swim which returns for the second year of the event. \nIn addition\, the organisers have created the Swim Serpentine Super Six challenge\, which offers the chance for swimmers to take on the challenge of swimming a total of six miles in five different races during the day. \n“We have added these new events to the Swim Serpentine programme so that swimmers of all ages and abilities can enjoy open water swimming in the spectacular setting of the Serpentine\,” said Hugh Brasher\, Event Director. “In 2017\, we look forward to welcoming swimmers from the age of 12 in the new half mile event and the very experienced open water swimmers who take on the Swim Serpentine Super Six challenge. \n“With thousands of swimmers participating in the mass participation one mile events plus the great free family festival around the lake\, it’s going to be a fantastic day.” \nThe new events are: \n\nHalf mile: entry fee £25.00 (minimum age 12 on 16 September 2017)\nTwo miles: entry fee £49.00 (minimum age 16)\nSuper Six: entry fee £150.00 (minimum age 18)\n\nThe entry fee for the one mile event is £39.00 and the minimum age for entry is 16 on the day. \nUp to 6\,000 swimmers will be accepted for the one-mile mass-participation event. Every swimmer will be able to choose a specific start wave which go off at regular intervals during the day. Wetsuits or tow floats are compulsory in all events. Both wetsuit and tow-float hire will be available beforehand and at the Serpentine on the day. \nOnline Entry\nEntering Swim Serpentine\nOnline entry for all events at Swim Serpentine is now open. Entry is on a first come\, first served basis so enter now to avoid disappointment. \nEntries for all events close at 17:00 on Thursday 27 July 2017. \nHalf-Mile Swim\nThis distance is an ideal entry level open water swim. Taking in half a lap of the Serpentine\, there is plenty of time to swim this distance at your leisure with a friend\, race your mum or dad or just to try out an open water swimming event with an achievable but for some still challenging swim.  Numbers are limited for this event\, which will be held in the morning of Swim Serpentine\, so don’t delay. \nHalf Mile Entry \nEntry costs £25. Entrants must be at least 12 years old on Saturday 16 September 2017. \nOne-Mile Swim\nA one-mile swim is a classic distance in the world of open water swimming events. Swim Serpentine takes place on the same course as the London 2012 Marathon Swimming Olympic event\, with one full lap around the Serpentine making up the one-mile swim. This is the most popular of all the swim distances for Swim Serpentine with swimmers taking anything from 20 minutes through to one hour to complete the swim. \nOne Mile Entry \nEntry costs £39. Entrants must be at least 16 years old on Saturday 16 September 2017. \nTwo-Mile Swim\nFor those who would like to test themselves with two full (1.6km) laps of the Serpentine. Aimed at more experienced swimmers who have already completed a mile open water swim previously. A challenging two-lap swim set in a beautiful location: what’s not to like? \nTwo Mile Entry \nEntry costs £49. Entrants must be at least 16 years old on Saturday 16 September 2017. \nSuper Six\nSwim six miles with a combination of one-mile and two-mile events during the day. All the ‘Super Sixers’ will start in the same one-mile wave\, then how you complete the total distance is up to you. Choose to swim event after event\, or take a break before you continue on with your swim. \nDon’t underestimate this challenge – swimming for 10km straight is one thing\, but the challenge for this swim is that the swimmer must to get out the water between each one or two-mile swim and wait for the next event to start\, which makes this a tough challenge for any experienced swimmer. But with a special coloured swim hat for the Super Sixers and very limited spaces available\, you’ll be treated like a true ‘Super (Six)’ Hero for the day. \nEntry costs £150 and is limited to 60 swimmers. Entrants must be at least 18 years old on Saturday 16 September 2017. \nElite One-Mile Invitational Race\nEntry into the Elite One-Mile Race is by invitation only. If you would like to be considered\, please email Colin Hill at colin.hill@londonmarathonevents.co.uk \nElite entries are limited to 25 male and 25 female competitors. The minimum criteria from which the swimmers will be selected is 16:10 for the men (1500m time) and 9:00 for the women (800m time) or swimmers with international open water racing experience at FINA or LEN level. \nThere will also be an Elite Para One-Mile Invitational Race. Para swimmers should have international experience in the pool or triathlon and are selected by the Para elite manager. \nWetsuit & tow-float hire\nWetsuits are optional when the water temperature is over 15 degrees. However\, for safety reasons\, all swimmers must either wear a wetsuit or use a tow-float for all Swim Serpentine events. \nAs an official partner of Swim Serpentine\, HUUB will provide wetsuits\, swimwear and swim accessories to all swimmers looking to hire or purchase equipment for the event. Visit the HUUB Swim Serpentine page for more details. \nChoosing your wave\nThe Swim Serpentine events will comprise a number of waves (groups). \nIf you enter Swim Serpentine\, we will send you an email asking you to choose your wave\, so you’ll be able to swim with friends and family if you’d like to. If you do not choose a wave\, you will be allocated one according to your predicted finishing time. \nChange of address\nIf you change your address after applying\, please email changeofaddress@londonmarathonevents.co.uk with your name\, date of birth\, telephone number\, old address and your new address. \nYour address details will then be changed in our system and a confirmation will be emailed to you when this has been done. \nPlease do not call the helpdesk with changes of address as these can only be processed by email. \nAge Group Prizes\nAlthough the focus of the event is on having fun\, prizes will be awarded to first\, second and third-placed swimmers in each age category. Prizes will be sent out post-event.

SUMMARY:RG Open Water Swim Race
DESCRIPTION:Open Water Swim Race UK\nWith the popularity of open water swimming growing as a sport in it’s own right there is more and more of you wanting to test your swimming ability without having to worry about cycling and running afterwards. There are also many triathletes entering these open water swim races as preparation for their own triathlon and multisport events. \nOur TRAINING RACES offer the competitors an opportunity to gauge fitness\, practise mass swim starts\, swimming with others and to add a element of competition to your training in a relaxed and inexpensive environment. \nThe races will follow the same structure with the only things outside of your control being the British weather and the other competitors racing with you. \nThis allows you to monitor your progress over the races throughout the season over the same course and having the series will enable you to try new things and make sure that you get a great workout as well as preparing yourself for your major ‘A’ races during the summer. \nWe allow competitors to decide on your race distance on the morning of the race when you register and collect your swim hat. We have decided to offer this because over the past two year people have regularly changed their minds due to weather\, their fitness etc. This way you can literally choose the distance thats right for you when you arrive at the race. \nEntry Fees for the Open Water Swim Race:\n– Entries for the 3200m (6 laps) distance race is £12.00\n– Entries for the 2250m (4 laps) distance race is £12.00\n– Entries for the 1250m (2 laps) distance race is £12.00\n– Entries for the 750m (1 lap) distance race is FREE! \nWe are allowing competitors to decide on your race distance on the morning of the race when you register and collect your swim hat and race number. We have decided to offer this because over in past years people have regularly changed their minds due to weather\, their fitness etc. \nThis way you can literally choose the distance that’s right for you when you arrive at the race. \nRace Info\nPlease take time to read through this information prior to your race: \nThe races will start from 8:00am so we ask that you arrive in plenty of time to change\, register and warm up prior to the race start. On arrival at the venue you will asked to park in specific areas by members of the RG Active marshals. \nYou will need to register your attendance with at the registration desk where you will be given the following things:\n– An coloured swim hat relevant to your race distance.\n– On your hand will be written a ‘Number’\, ‘Letter’ or both\, this will be how the race marshals are able to record your time at the finish line of the race. \nNote: At the registration desk you will also be able to purchase a selection of items including blueseventy goggles\, swim toys as well as sports lubricant\, energy products and hot or cold drinks. \nThe distances for all races have been measure by GPS equipment\, however due to tidal changes in the river Thames the exact distance of the races could vary by a few metres on the morning of the race like with all open water events. \nThere will be three race options/distances to choose from\, however EVERYONE will start in the same ‘Mass start’ at 08:00am. \nCompetitors racing the 750m (1 lap) course will exit the water via the matted ramp and follow the cones directly to the finish line where your time will be recorded by the RG Active time keepers. \nThose competitors competing in the longer distance races will NOT exit the lake and continue the loop in the upper part of the lake to complete their additional lap(s). At the end of their last swim lap they will exit the lake via the ramp\, turn sharp left and head directly to the finish line. \nWhen running through the finish line we ask that all competitors be respectful of the time keepers and help them to record your numbers accurately so the results will be correct when you receive them. \nPlease make sure the ‘number’ or ‘letter’ you have written on your hand is shown to the time keepers when you cross the finish line\, this signifies YOU and will be cross referenced with your time when the results are compiled after the race. \nNow all you have to do is Enter\, Participate and Enjoy!

SUMMARY:Morocco Swim Trek 2017
DESCRIPTION:Morocco Swim Trek\nThe Morocco Swim Trek – Sahara Edition – is an international open-water swimming event for amateurs and professional swimmers. The event counts 4 heats of swimming\, each one different. \nThe second edition will take place in the lagoon of the city of Dakhla in Morocco\, from November\, 28th to December\, 4th of 2017. \nThis year\, this crazy and roving race totalizes a distance of 30 kilometers. Each day\, participants will have to swim a different distance over a different stretch of water\, from a new starting line. \nThe swimmers are free to wear wetsuits or not and may use goggles and swim caps. Participants may rub grease on their bodies (Vaseline\, lanoline or milking grease) in order to protect themselves from the cold and irritation due to the salt. There will be a different ranking for swimmers with wetsuit and swimmers without wetsuit. \nDuring the competition the swimmers will have to face the elements and will be confronted by natural forces: wind\, currents and tides. \nThis challenge differs from any other swimming pool contest. You win not only because you’re faster than another competitor but also and mainly by completing the course and surpassing your own own performance. \nDon’t forget that the real feat is to complete the course\, even if that means taking twice as time as another competitor. \nRegulations and aim of the competition: the swimmers will start at the same time and will complete the same course. This kind of event is organized on the basis of regulations\, mainly governed by the rules of the International Amateur Swimming Federation. \nThe course will mainly follow a straight line: the swimmers will depart from one point and arrive at another. \nMorocco Swim Trek\nDuring the longest heat\, they will keep close to the shore over the entire length of the course. The advantage of this kind of course is that it enables spectators to follow and encourage the swimmers throughout the heat. \nThe third heat called « The Pink Floyd Marathon » is on the most beautiful of the four heats. The swimmers will swim along the coast of Western Sahara for 10km.

SUMMARY:Open Water Swimming - Long Swim at Lydd
DESCRIPTION:Open Water Swimming\nWith three distances available\, this will be a first opportunity for many to swim a decent distance without waves\, seawater and tides/current in this corner of the world\, in the very pleasant Lake1 at Action Watersports. LongSwim1: 1900m\, 2: 3800m and 3: 5700m. \nOn the Sunday of Marshman weekend\, we have three Long Swim events. Perhaps you will be supporting somebody at the half-iron event and want something to do while they are out on the bike. Or perhaps you just fancy a decent swim without the waves or salty water or the 25 metre turnarounds or just without all that cycling and running round the countryside. \nWell now we have three swim distances for you on Marshman Sunday in the fabulous lake: 1.9km\, 3.8km and 5.7km. These will set off after the half-iron athletes have left transition\, and will consist of 1\, 2 or 3 laps of the half-iron-distance “M”-shaped course in the lake. Of course\, 1.9km is the same distance as those athletes will swim; 3.8km is the full ironman-distance swim\, for those who don’t know; and some would refer to 5.7km as a half-marathon or more. \nCome on in\, the water’s lovely. It’s the same entry price for any distance.\nThe event takes place in the pleasant water of Action Watersports’ Lake 1\, Dengemarsh Road\, Lydd\, Kent TN29 9JH \nThe 1\,900m course in the lake is an “M” shape\, where you swim up the right-hand-side\, turn sharp left at the right-end buoy\, come back to the middle of the lake\, make a sharp right turn back to the far-left buoy where you make a final sharp left and swim back down the right side to the start. Those swimming the 3\,800m event will do that a second time\, and those swimming the epic 5.7k will do it a third time. \nThe lake is not deep\, so it warms up quite quickly in a period of reasonable weather. Wetsuits will be compulsory. \nDetails \nEntry in advance: £18. \nEntry on the day: will be available subject to capacity\, £18\, cash only at registration please. You could fill in our postal form and bring it along\, which is easier for you and us. \nRace pack: We don’t send out a race pack in the post\, everything is handled at registration on the day. No worries. \nClick to view site plan and swim routes \nRefunds\, Cancellations and Transfers policy\nIf YOU have to cancel:\nUp to 6 weeks before the event – Full refund or transfer to the same event next year or a race credit for a similar Velocity Events’ event. \nUp to 2 weeks before the event – Transfer to the same event next year or a race credit for a similar Velocity Events’ event. \nLess than 2 weeks’ notice\, sorry. \nIf WE have to cancel the event:\nIf a race has to be cancelled for reasons beyond our control\, such as but not limited to safety\, harsh weather\, civil disturbance\, road closure or others\, a revised date may be fixed if this is possible. You will be offered a free transfer to that date if acceptable\, or the same event in the following year or a race credit for a similar Velocity Events event. We cannot be held responsible for any other losses incurred. Notice will be given via email as soon as we know that cancellation is unavoidable. \nIf we have to modify the event:\nOccasionally\, for reasons including but not limited to safety\, road closure\, deep water\, cold or unsuitable weather\, civil disturbance or anything else beyond our reasonable control\, an event has to be modified. We do our best to keep to the expected race format but sometimes an event has to be reorganised at the last minute. \nFor example in cold weather (as defined in BTF* Rules)\, a triathlon swim leg may be shortened or changed to a run; in flood conditions or excessive winds\, a cycle leg could be cancelled. This is regrettable but in all such cases\, if the race starts\, if you choose not to attend\, you will be classed as a ‘DNS’ (did not start) and a refund\, transfer or credit will not be given. \n*BTF: British Triathlon Federation

SUMMARY:The Great East SwimRun 2018
DESCRIPTION:The Great East SwimRun 2018\nEntries for the 2018 Great East SwimRun are now open! \nSince its inception in 2006\, SwimRun has become a popular choice around the World for endurance athletes and is now the fastest growing endurance sport in the UK. \nThe concept was born in Sweden\, following a drunken bet among friends as to who could better navigate 20 islands and 75k of the Stockholm archipelago. \nRunners and swimmers from across the UK\, and triathletes seeking a change from the traditional triathlon format will enjoy stepping up to a new challenge. \nBased on teamwork\, passion\, and closeness to nature\, teams of two embark on a seamless journey across the landscape\, taking on land and water\, as they navigate their way around the course. \nThis outdoor running and swimming challenge is the new benchmark in adventure races. Not just for endurance athletes\, the most important things you need are a sense of adventure\, some determination and a lot of fun! \n \nAbout the event \nAn ideal entry level event giving everyone the chance to sample the SwimRun experience. Based on a single lap of Alton Water which is set in 400 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside.\nThe event starts and finishes at the main Great East Swim event site. The 11.3km course (approximately) comprises 4 swims and 3 runs.\nThe swim courses include the start and finish sections of the Great Swims with a sunken tennis court thrown in for good measure. The run courses have something for everyone: \nRun 1: Quick and flat through grassland and light woodland. The course is predominantly based on hard packed surface with some softer areas under trees.\nRun 2: Undulating\, sweeping run on a variety of surfaces\, includes three steep descents and several short\, sharp climbs.\nRun 3: Gently undulating course based largely on packed sand cycle track and path which follows the contours of the reservoir with the water regularly visible.\nTotal swim distance: approximately 20%\nTotal run distance: approximately 80%\nTransitions: 4 swims / 3 runs\nTime: unlimited\, take your time\nAge: 16 years old and over \n11.3k total distance covered \nThere will be a mandatory briefing before the event at 09:30.\nThe provisional start time for the event is 10:30. \nRules & Regulations

We’ll have ample kayakers on the water for your safety. \nLAKE SWIM BUNDLE DEALS \nNew for 2018 we have two lake swim bundle deals for you\, so you can get in an entry in for the Friday Night Swim\, along with the Small Fry or Big Fish Swims on May 27th\, and either the Doggy Paddle or Big Dog on August 23rd. Enter all in one go using the link on the right hand side and get more than 20% off your entry for all three swims. \nThe swim will be wetsuit optional with the water temperature typically around the 21 degree mark at this time of year. \nAt the end of the swim\, you’ll receive your fabulous Friday Night Swim medal and be encouraged to tuck into the refreshments. In the days after the swim\, we’ll send you an iTaB engraved with your name and swim time.
