SUMMARY:Chombueng Marathon 2018
DESCRIPTION:Chombueng Marathon 2018\nThe The Marathon\, Half marathon and Mini marathon will be held on Sunday 21st January 2018 at Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University. \nAbout Chombueng Marathon\nChombueng Marathon has been accepted by health-concerned runners across the country. The event was initiated in 1985 by a group of instructors of Chombueng Village Institute as they had particular interest in running for health\, with Acharn Narong Tiammek and Acharn Somjit Sangapun as the initiators. At that time\, there were less than 100 participants. The registration fee was 20 baht per person. Numbers of running were made from raw cotton and were written with oil colors. \nThe running distance was 10 km.\, starting at Khao Bin Cave and ending at Jom Pol Cave. From that day on\, the small running event in Chombueng was held regularly in the third week of January until it has become a tradition of Chombueng inhabitants as well as runners for health all over the country as per the remarks stated that “Those who have never run at Chombueng\, they are not genuine runners.” Since 1992 on\, numbers of participants increased more than 5\,000 every year\, and that was quite a lot that time. Then\, in 1989\, 21.1 km. was added to the event\, and thus the name of the event was changed to “Chombueng Half Marathon.” \nIn 1999\, the year that H.M. the King reached 72 years of age\, the race committee determined another new race distance at 42.195 km. which led to the name revision as “Chombueng Marathon”\, which has been called up until present. \nA large number of runners regard Chombueng Marathon as the prototype of running race\, because its party among athletes on Saturday evening before the race on the next day. Because a lot of runners have to travel there and stay overnight\, and are not convenient to go out for dinner\, the mentioned party impress everyone joining the event. \nThai Health Promotion Foundation (Thai Health) has been the main supporter of Chombueng Marathon continually since 2001. Therefore\, the upcoming race is entitled “Thai Health Chombueng Marathon.” \nUp until now\, Chombueng Marathon does not belong to only a certain agency\, but is regarded as a race for public consisting of several pillars\, i.e. Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University as the first one (including Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University Alumni Association\, Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University Promotion Affairs Committee Members\, faculty\, staff\, and students); Chombueng Village Institute Foundation as the second one; local communities as the third (including Chombueng District\, Somdej Phra Yupparaj Chombueng Hospital\, Chombueng Police Station\, The Central Literature Botanic Garden\, Chombueng Subdistrict Municipality\, Chombueng Subdistrict Administrative Organization\, Berkprai Subdistrict Administrative Organization\, Ratchaburi Provincial Adminitrative Organization\, schools\, municipal communities\, subdistrict headmen\, village headmen\, etc); and runners as the fourth pillar (through diverse networks\, e.g. Jogging Run Club Federation of Thailand\, Western Running for Health Club\, other running clubs\, volunteer runner groups such as pacer group\, sweeper group\, fancy group\, medical group\, income providing group\, etc.\, including representative runners from the committee of Thai Race License Standards). Muban Chombueng Rajabhat University also acts as the center of all concerned coordination so as to reflect achievements of Chombueng Village\, which is viewed as “Folks’ tradition with international standards.” The assembly of all stated 4 pillars is expected to be the model of building sustainability to Chombueng Marathon in the future. \nRegistration Information \n– Lottery registration applied\, if number of applications are more than announce.\n– The organizer will announce lottery results through email on 4th September 2017.\n– Candidates who receive lottery result notification must pay for the registration fee between 4th-7th September 2017.\n– Candidates with late/delayed payment shall be deemed as waiving their right to join the race.\n– Names of Candidates must match those presented in ID cards. An icon in Africa\, “Kili“ as she is affectionately known\, is one of the sights every person should see at least once in his or her life. \nEvery year\, at the end of February/beginning March\, a standard 42.2 km marathon\, a 21.1 km half marathon and a 5 km fun run will be held in the town of Moshi\, Tanzania. This race has been set up to promote the sport in Tanzania\, and has the official backing of the Tanzania Tourist Board\, the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association\, the IAAF\, and is registered with AIMS. \nThe marathon route leaves Moshi stadium and heads down towards the town\, and then along the main road to Dar es Salaam for approximately 8-9 km. This section of the route is relatively flat\, and there are plenty of spectators and well-wishers along the road. We turn around and head back to the town of Moshi\, tracking down into the actual town itself before turning toward the mountain and heading up a long\, steady ascent towards Mweka. The uphill climb is gradual\, but with Kilimanjaro towering above and all the local villagers out to cheer you on\, the time passes quickly. The turnaround point marks approximately 32 km and the last section is a fast downhill run back toward the stadium. Regular water tables as well as ‘sponging points’ and the odd ‘shower’ keep the runners refreshed and cool along the entire route. \nThe route passes through many smallholding farms\, villages\, parts of town\, banana and coffee plantations and patches of forest\, providing great excitement to the residents who give ample vocal support. \nFor those running the half marathon\, the route also starts at the Moshi stadium and after a short\, flat section\, it follows the gradual uphill route to Mweka as per the full marathon – before turning around at approx 10 km to return to the stadium again. The atmosphere in the stadium is electric with local bands playing\, entertainment\, crowds of local enthusiasts to cheer the runners\, and lots of refreshments for sale. \nThe logistics of the operation are run by the Kilimanjaro Marathon Club and the members of both the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association (TAAA) and the local Kilimanjaro Amateur Athletics Association (KAAA). \nThe Kilimanjaro Marathon may also be used as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon. \nRace Information \nQUALIFYING EVENTS \nInternational and Rest of Africa residents \nAny IAAF accredited road race of 42.2 kilometres or longer (refer to qualifying table) may be used as a Comrades qualifying event. \nSouth African residents \nDue to events changing dates and/or being cancelled\, it is recommended that you check the latest updates on the Runners’ Guide site at http://www.runnersguide.co.za \nTIME KEEPING\nWe implemented a new electronic time keeping system in 2016 to assist with instant results via the website. \nThere will be two (2) disposable timing chips on the back of your race number\nThese chips will be covered with foam strips to prevent water and body fluids from damaging the\nchip\nPlease do not remove these strips if one does NO TIME will be recorded\nThe race number must be placed on the front of your vest\nPlease do not fold or crumple the race number\nTo view your finish time and picture go to http://www.kilimanjaromarathon.com\nFor any race queries e mail timing@topevents.co.za \nFIRST AID / EMERGENCY ON ROUTE\nThere will be a roaming ambulance – if you are having difficulty STOP AND LET A FELLOW RUNNER ADVISE AN ORGANIZER WHERE YOU ARE THEY WILL LET US KNOW\, and you will be collected off the route.
