SUMMARY:The 2018 Kilimanjaro Marathon
DESCRIPTION:c \n2018 Kilimanjaro Marathon\nSituated south of the equator – in Tanzania – at 5 895 metres\, this is Africa’s highest mountain and the highest free standing mountain in the world (as it is not part of a mountain range). \nHuge permanent glaciers flow down from the summit\, and the sheer presence of this huge mountain dominates the entire area. An icon in Africa\, “Kili“ as she is affectionately known\, is one of the sights every person should see at least once in his or her life. \nEvery year\, at the end of February/beginning March\, a standard 42.2 km marathon\, a 21.1 km half marathon and a 5 km fun run will be held in the town of Moshi\, Tanzania. This race has been set up to promote the sport in Tanzania\, and has the official backing of the Tanzania Tourist Board\, the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association\, the IAAF\, and is registered with AIMS. \nThe marathon route leaves Moshi stadium and heads down towards the town\, and then along the main road to Dar es Salaam for approximately 8-9 km. This section of the route is relatively flat\, and there are plenty of spectators and well-wishers along the road. We turn around and head back to the town of Moshi\, tracking down into the actual town itself before turning toward the mountain and heading up a long\, steady ascent towards Mweka. The uphill climb is gradual\, but with Kilimanjaro towering above and all the local villagers out to cheer you on\, the time passes quickly. The turnaround point marks approximately 32 km and the last section is a fast downhill run back toward the stadium. Regular water tables as well as ‘sponging points’ and the odd ‘shower’ keep the runners refreshed and cool along the entire route. \nThe route passes through many smallholding farms\, villages\, parts of town\, banana and coffee plantations and patches of forest\, providing great excitement to the residents who give ample vocal support. \nFor those running the half marathon\, the route also starts at the Moshi stadium and after a short\, flat section\, it follows the gradual uphill route to Mweka as per the full marathon – before turning around at approx 10 km to return to the stadium again. The atmosphere in the stadium is electric with local bands playing\, entertainment\, crowds of local enthusiasts to cheer the runners\, and lots of refreshments for sale. \nThe logistics of the operation are run by the Kilimanjaro Marathon Club and the members of both the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association (TAAA) and the local Kilimanjaro Amateur Athletics Association (KAAA). \nThe Kilimanjaro Marathon may also be used as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon. \nRace Information \nQUALIFYING EVENTS \nInternational and Rest of Africa residents \nAny IAAF accredited road race of 42.2 kilometres or longer (refer to qualifying table) may be used as a Comrades qualifying event. \nSouth African residents \nDue to events changing dates and/or being cancelled\, it is recommended that you check the latest updates on the Runners’ Guide site at http://www.runnersguide.co.za \nTIME KEEPING\nWe implemented a new electronic time keeping system in 2016 to assist with instant results via the website. \nThere will be two (2) disposable timing chips on the back of your race number\nThese chips will be covered with foam strips to prevent water and body fluids from damaging the\nchip\nPlease do not remove these strips if one does NO TIME will be recorded\nThe race number must be placed on the front of your vest\nPlease do not fold or crumple the race number\nTo view your finish time and picture go to http://www.kilimanjaromarathon.com\nFor any race queries e mail timing@topevents.co.za \nFIRST AID / EMERGENCY ON ROUTE\nThere will be a roaming ambulance – if you are having difficulty STOP AND LET A FELLOW RUNNER ADVISE AN ORGANIZER WHERE YOU ARE THEY WILL LET US KNOW\, and you will be collected off the route. Some other characteristic features are its constant east direction\, the long straight street and the limited inhabited areas which it crosses until almost the 30th kilometer. \nThe race starts from Pella\, in front of the statue of Alexander the Great on horseback\, hardly a km from the homonym archaeological site\, and some 43 meters above sea-level. After the first km of downhill road\, the athletes get onto the Thessaloniki-Edessa highway\, following it for another 8 km\, until they reach Chalkidona. \nAt the 8th km the athletes enter the city of Chalkidona.\nAt the 9th km they meet the junction to Veroia and Thessaloniki.\nThe 10th km is right after Chalkidona.\nAt the 13th km the road passes through a bridge over Axios River.\nThe 15th km is before the village Gefyra.\nThe 20th km is right after the exit for Agios Athanasios at the national highway.\nThe 25th after the crossroad of Nea Agchialos.\nThe 28th km passes over Gallikos River.\nAt the 30th km the athletes pass by Ionia (Diavata)\nThe 35th km is in the center of Kordelio\, in Monastiriou Street.\nAt the 38th km the athletes turn right in Giannitson Street.\nAt the 39th the runners turn right in Dafnis Street and then left in Kountouriotou Avenue.\nThe 40th km is at the Courts of Thessaloniki.\nThe 41st km and 42nd km run Nikis Avenue.\nThe finish is at Thessaloniki coastal road – Megalou Alexandrou Avenue (Alexander the Great Statue)

SUMMARY:Sungai Menyala Forest Trail 2018
DESCRIPTION:Sungai Menyala Forest Trail 2018\nOne of the fastest races on the Asia Trail Master Championship calendar has opened the registration for next year’s edition\, scheduled for 1 April 2018. Sungai Menyala Forest Trail offers a 50 km trail in dense ancient rainforest and is also one of the more accessible races with Port Dickson being just an hour’s drive away from Kuala Lumpur. \nThe event also has shorter distances on its menu for the less ambitious runners\, or indeed for people who would like to get a first taste of running on trails as opposed to running on roads. For the ATM Championship\, though\, it is the 50K that matters with the standard 500 points to be scored by the winners (100 finisher points\, 400 performance points). \nFilipino runners set Sungai Menyala alight last April 2017 with ATM Champion Manolito Divina beating a star-filled race including the likes of Steven Ong\, Arief Wismoyono and Pablo Diago Gonzales. In the women’s\, Sandi Menchi scored one of her three ATM race victories this season ahead of Jessica Lintanga and Jeri Chua. Also in 2018 race director Razif Yahya expects an influx of fast trail runners into Port Dickson\, especially the the introduction of new single 50km route. \nCLOSING DATE: 15TH MARCH

The course is surprisingly flat for a city built on seven hills\, but the sometimes uneven cobblestone streets\, which in the narrowest places can feel quite crowded\, may add a few extra minutes to your finish time. \nAge Limit\nIf you reside in Italy you must be 20 or older on the race day. If you do not reside in Italy you must be 18 or older on the race day. \nMaximum Time\nAnyone who does not reach the half marathon within 3:45 and 35km within 6 hours from the gunshot start will be asked by the judges to stop.
