SUMMARY:Cool Cambridge Sportive Cycling Event
DESCRIPTION:Cycling Event\nThe Challenge\nWe start the 100K route just outside the world-renowned city of Cambridge and head south into the open countryside of Cambridgeshire. We ride into Essex\, passing through the town of Saffron Walden and along an excellent section of the 2014 Tour de France route\, ending up in the picturesque village of Finchingfield. We head north\, stopping at Steeple Bumpstead for a well-earned snack or two! Now feeling re-energised\, we head into Suffolk and through the small town of Clare\, before heading north-west and back to the finish. The route has an elevation of nearly 2\,500ft and is constantly undulating over rolling hills. \nWe start the 50K route again just outside Cambridge and head south into the open countryside of Cambridgeshire. After a short while we head east towards the village of Withersfield. SUMMARY:Florence Marathon in Italy
DESCRIPTION:Marathon in Italy 2018\nSunday\, 25th November 2018\, is the date of the 2018 edition of the international classic road race\, the 35th Florence Marathon. \nStep by step all along its 42 kilometers and 195 meters you are surrounded by centuries of art\, history and culture\, a unique emotion that can only be experienced by those who run in Florence. This great event in Florence has increased immeasurably recently so much so that we expect more than 10.000 participants in 2018 \nThis extraordinary increase in participation also testifies to the constant attention given to the organization of the race. Florence Marathon is now the second Italian marathon (after Rome)\, and among the 20 most important marathons in the world. The route takes you by all those landmarks of singular beauty that have made Florence famous worldwide: views over the enchanting hills and countryside\, and passing right by the Cathedral Square\, Piazza della Signoria\, Ponte Vecchio (to mention only just a few of historical importance)\, before entering the majestic Piazza Duomo. \nThe road is entirely asphalted and ramp-free\, except for the short\, slightly sloping stretch of road at the start\, and these characteristics make it a particularly fast route appreciated by runners. \nKITS\nAthletes enrolled in the Marathon will receive an official kit containing ASICS technical material and other promotional materials. Kits can be picked up from the appointed stand of the Marathon Expo after collecting race numbers. \nCLOAKROOM SERVICE\nThe cloakroom service will be located at Piazza Santa Maria Novella in the apposite spaces divided in different groups corresponding to start numbers (available from 6.30 a.m.). SUMMARY:The Bali Hope SwimRun 2018
DESCRIPTION:Bali Hope SwimRun 2018\nThe Bali Hope SwimRun aims to bring together 30 extraordinary people for 5 days this December to take on the challenge of Bali’s first swimrun and fundraise US$60\,000 to help protect the islands of Lembongan and Ceningan from plastic pollution. \nSwimRun is a Nordic adventure sport where teams of two compete by alternating between running and swimming on a challenging course covering roads\, beaches\, ocean\, rocks\, and paths. Each team must help each other through the terrain to beat the course and complete the entire course together. Unlike triathlon there are no transitions or changes of equipment allowed. \nThe environmental challenge presented by plastic is well documented. Many of our team members will travel to Bali from Europe or North America and it is important to acclimatise before the SwimRun. \nCan I bring a partner and/or children?\nOf course. Partners and children are most welcome. In 2018 on our ultra marathon we had 4 young people with us\, including one young adult who joined our support crew. Witnessing a team of adults from around the world making change happen for a disadvantaged community can only be a positive experience. \nCan I join the SwimRun but not the rest of the week? \nUnfortunately not. The integrity of our SwimRun team\, our shared experience and our itinerary means this is not possible. \nThe SwimRun \nWhat is your advice if I have never joining a SwimRun before?\nThe route is designed to be challenging but accessible for anyone with a decent level of fitness. We do recommend researching SwimRun and the standard equipment required. \nWhat level of support do you provide?\nParticipant safety on this ocean & road race is our key priority. With this in mind we have a highly-experienced health and safety director\, emergency medical back-up\, and trained first aiders in both fixed and mobile-aid stations. \nWhat insurance do I need? \nEvery participant will need insurance covering endurance sports. \nFundraising \nWhat is your advice on fundraising?\nCritical factors on successful fundraising include starting early to raise awareness of what you are doing\, the impact it will make and the training commitment required\, and then follow this up with personal messages to friends\, family and your broader network. We believe US$2\,000 is very achievable and together we can make a real impact in reducing plastic pollution.

It is recommended that you ‘walk through’ & familiarise yourself with the routes to/from your bike from/to the entrances and exits of transition prior to starting the race. Remember to leave your bike in a low enough gear\, ready for the cycle section. There is no cycling in transition: mount/dismount your bike at the mount/dismount points. You will be required to verify your identification i.e. race number\, with those on the gate. No one other than competitors or race officials will be permitted into the transition area at any time. \nIt is your responsibility to ensure that your bike is in safe road-worthy condition\, before entering transition. Any bike that is considered unsafe or hazardous to the rider or other competitors will not be allowed into transition. All handlebar ends must be plugged. We regret that in this case no refunds can be offered. Historically all previous water tests have been well below these limits. \nThe temperature of the pool will be taken one hour before the event and will also be posted up at registration. If the temperature of the pool exceeds the appropriate level then the distances will be reduced. \nBike Course (1 Lap)\nThe bike course is a total of 12.2 miles (20.3K) following an undulating route leaving the swimming pool taking a right hand turn onto Dog Row and then joining the Quay. If overtaking is not completed within 15 seconds the overtaking cyclist must drop back. Static marshals will check that all competitors comply with the drafting rule. \nIn order to monitor drafting our bike director will tour the bike route in an estate car. Your empties will be taken back to transition for collection at the end of your race. \nRefreshments station 2: At the Finish. SUMMARY:Blade Runner Ultra Marathon Series Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Ultra Marathon Series Trail Run\nThe Blade Runner Ultra Marathon is a 50km fully way-marked race set in the SAS Selection heartlands of the Brecon Beacon mountains. Staged in the deep winter and high summer months\, each edition of the race will visit iconic landmarks steeped in SAS folklore and following in the footsteps of a history of young men in search of something out of the ordinary. Forged on memories and nostalgia for our past endeavours and struggles as we pitted ourselves against one of the world’s great endurance challenges\, we could think of no finer culmination than to stage the finish at the iconic old red phone box via Pen y Fan summit\, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons range\, the outline of which is engraved onto the heart of every SAS man.For our DS team it was always far more than a challenge or test\, it was a pilgrimage and the adventure of a life time and we’re honoured and humbled to be able to share a small part of our past with those who take on the Blade Runner Ultra marathon challenge. \nAll runners who complete the course by passing through each RV point and making time cuts will be presented with a special cloth patch by one of our former SAS staff at the finish line. Category champion prizes will be provided by Paramo and our other sponsors as well as a framed route map featuring original SAS insignia. \nCATEGORIES\nThe Blade Runner Ultra Series will be a Clean Fatigue category only with no Load Bearing element. There will be Men’s and Ladies fields in the following age categories. \nROUTE INFORMATION & RV PROTOCOL\nThe Bladerunner route follows a sequence of forestry trails\, hill paths and old Roman roads\, negotiating 2200m of elevation gain over the 50 km course. Along the route you will pass through a series of DS manned rendezvous points where you will be required to log in to have your name and race number recorded and your suitability to continue assessed. RV points will be stocked with hot food and drinks\, with robust medical support and off-road vehicle rescue support. Owed to the very real risk of adverse weather conditions and the requirement to cover ground in darkness for at least two hours during the winter edition\, the opening part of the course will be illuminated with military grade cyalumes to provide enhanced route marking. \nThe Blade Runner route map is available for download and print on this page along with GPX files for your GPS device. \nBLADE RUNNER ULTRA START & FINISH\nThe de-serviced old red phone box has marked the start and finish points of the Fan Dance for nearly sixty years of SAS Selection. It has now become an iconic landmark steeped in the finest history and tradition of our Special Forces. The Blade Runner ultra-marathon will also launch from the very same location and be a welcome site at the end of the race. \nTHE BATTLE FOR JACOB’S LADDER\nThe legendary climb up Jacob’s Ladder is synonymous with SAS Selection and can be especially challenging to negotiate when covered in snow and ice. The rocky and step like upper reaches of this southern face of Pen y Fan is steep enough to require hand and foot placements to reach the summit. Jacob’s Ladder will be one of the most well-known and famous segments of the Blade Runner course\, rivalled by a number of other equally fearsome climbs you will have to negotiate. \nNIGHT RUNNING\nThe early part of the Winter Edition Blade Runner course will be run in darkness so head troches will be required. Head torches will be required unless the moon state is high with clear skies. Past editions of our Fan Dance night trail run have been blessed with strong ambient light conditions\, increased further by the snow on the ground so there’s always a chance absorbing the spectacular scenery by moonlight. \nBLADE RUNNER LEAGUE TABLES\nBlade Runner will have a league table for each category recording every edition of the race\, ranking each historical finisher in order of their finish time. The Fan Dance Race has a competitive Clean Fatigue/trail run race league table of its own which can be viewed to assess the competition: League Tables \nGENERAL EVENT INFORMATION \nBASE CAMP\nThe Storey Arms Outdoor centre will function as the event Base Camp\, administration area and Command Centre. Accommodation and meals are also available at the centre (winter edition only) with drying room access. The centre is located on the A470 at the foot on Pen y Fan mountain and the nearest towns are Brecon (North\, and Merthyr Tydfil (South)\, both within a 20 minute drive. \nKEY TIMINGS \nREGISTRATION\nOwed to the early race start time Blade Runner will stage two registration openings\, both to be staged at the event Base Camp. SUMMARY:10K Swim for Haiti 2019
DESCRIPTION:Swim for Haiti 2019\nJoin us on the unique swimming holiday in Haiti as we take part in the annual 10km ‘Swim for Haiti’\, a special event to raise funds for teaching local children the fundamentals of swimming. Staying on the palm-fringed Côte des Arcadins\, overlooking the island of Isle de la Gonave\, we stay at the locally-owned Wahoo Bay Resort which is nestled between the majestic Matheux Mountains and the Caribbean Sea. \nWhile the nation of Haiti is filled with palm-fringed beaches and stunning coastal waters that rival anywhere in the Caribbean\, the true beauty of the country lies in its history\, culture and people. With a mix of African\, French\, Spanish and native Taino culture\, this trip will give you the opportunity to experience the wonderful hospitality that this small Caribbean nation is famous for. \nDuring the course of your trip\, you will also have the opportunity to take part on additional excursions or activities which can be arranged through our partners in Haiti. Please enquire with the SwimTrek office about any additional activities or extra nights’ accommodation that you may be interested in. \nWho is this trip for?\nThis event is suitable for both competitive and non-competitive swimmers. The 10 km (6-mile) crossing from the idyllic islands of Iles des Arcadins to the La Côte des Arcadins region on the Haitian mainland is stunning\, with dazzling blue water surrounding you. Each swimmer is accompanied by a local fisherman who paddles alongside them in a traditional dugout canoe. This truly is an adventure like no other. \nWhat’s included?\nEntry into the annual Swim For Haiti fundraising event\nYour own personal safety support in a local-style\, dug-out canoe\nDesignated SwimTrek transfer\nCoastal swims on Day 2 and 3\nThree nights accommodation\nAll breakfasts\nMedical Incident Response Services by HERO \nWhat’s not included?\nLunches\nEvening meals\nAdditional excursions and activities\nExtra nights’ accommodation before or after your trip \nAccommodation\nTake in the panoramic views of the stunning acreage\, dotted with lush trees and tranquil beaches at the Wahoo Bay Beach Resort\, which is where we call home for the duration of our trip. The resort sits on the ocean-front nestled between the Matheux Mountains and Gonave Bay and provides both a relaxing and active atmosphere. All rooms are decorated with traditional Haitian décor\, with en-suite facilities. air-conditioning\, ocean views and complimentary Wi-Fi. Accommodation is based on twin-share\, however\, there are a limited number of single rooms available which\, subject to availability\, can be purchased during the booking process. \nMeals\nAll breakfasts are included in your trip price\, however lunches and dinners are at your own expense. This gives you a fantastic opportunity to explore and experience the local cafes and restaurants of your choice over the course of your trip. We often dine out together as a group in the evenings. \nExtra Expenses\nYou should bring extra money with you to cover such items as entertainment\, dinner\, souvenirs\, etc. The local currency is Haitian Gourde\, however most shops and restaurants will prefer payment in US dollars. There is no cash machine at or near the hotel. It is advised that you take enough money out to Haiti with you to cover the whole period of the trip. As well as cash\, most restaurants will accept card payments. You should allow around $40 per day (for lunch and dinner) but this will vary per person. \nTourists must pay a US $55 departure tax. For most international flights this is usually included in the price of the ticket but for some flights\, for example from the Dominican Republic\, you need to pay this amount in cash on departure. Make sure you have enough US dollars or local currency on departure. \nPassports and Visas\nNon-residents of Haiti require a full passport to enter the country\, which should be valid for six months beyond the expected length of stay. Citizens of most countries\, including all E.U. member states\, U.S.\, Canada\, Australia and New Zealand do not require a visa to enter Haiti (unless the expected length of stay is longer than 90 days in one year). Please note that visa regulations are subject to change and we advise that you check your own visa requirements prior to travel: Haiti Visa Entry Requirements \nTravel Insurance\nAs part of your ‘Swim for Haiti’ race entry\, you are eligible for free emergency medical services cover as provided by HERO Emergency Medical Services in Haiti. For more information about HERO\, please visit: https://www.heroclientrescue.com/the-mission. Please note that this cover is separate to the travel insurance which you are required to take out prior to your SwimTrek trip. For further information on our travel insurance requirements\, please visit our Travel Insurance page. \nVaccinations\nFor comprehensive health information for people travelling to Haiti\, including all recommended and required vaccinations\, please visit http://www.travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries. Please note that this information is subject to change and you should re-check this site regularly prior to your trip. \nUK health authorities have classified Haiti as having a moderate risk of Zika virus transmission. For further information about this assessment\, you should visit http://www.gov.uk/guidance/zika-virus-country-specific-risk and follow the advice on the Travel Health Pro. It is also recommended that you discuss your travel plans with your healthcare provider\, particularly if you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant. \nTravel Plugs & Electricity\nFor a useful source of information on the different electrical outlets\, electrical plugs\, and electric sockets\, please visit ElectricalOutlet.org. \nSwimming Information \nGetting There\nThere are many different options for travelling to Haiti\, however we recommend flying to Port Au Prince Airport (PAP) and catching the SwimTrek designated transfer to Wahoo Bay Resort. We suggest that you use http://www.skyscanner.net to search for alternative flight and ferry options for this trip. Whichever route you choose to take\, we recommend confirming your flights and other travel arrangements as early as possible in order to avoid price rises and availability issues. \nTravelling to Haiti\nFlights to Port Au Prince (PAP) are widely available from Miami and New York. You can also fly with Air France via another Caribbean Island. A small selection of the airlines which fly into Port Au Prince are included below. \n \nSwimTrek Transfer\nSwimTrek provide a designated transfer service from the airport to Wahoo Beach Resort which is included in your trip price. This saves the hassle of organising your own travel once you have arrived in Haiti. The transfers can be booked around your own flight times and you will be met by a SwimTrek representative just outside arrivals. Please inform SwimTrek head office of your arrival and departure times so we can book your transfers accordingly. Please note that there is no public transport from the airport to the hotel and it is advised that you do not take the private ‘tap taps’ (communal taxis). \nSwim Notes

The prize giving will take place in the Challenge Wanaka finish area at 4:00pm for all age groups. \n  \n\n\n\n\n  \nCourse Description\nPlease refer to course map for details \nSWIM (Year 4-6) \nThe swim leg of the race will be in Lake Wanaka and will run parallel to the shore. Children start according to their age division in wave starts and will swim parallel to the lake. The race will commence with wave starts\, which will consist of a maximum of 25 children per wave. Wave’s will commence approximately 2-5 minutes apart and when the last swimmer of the last wave exits the water. \nThe depth of the swim will enable all children 10 and under to be able to stand up in the water at any time\, but will be deep enough to allow children to swim fluidly. We know how intimidating it is for children participating in Triathlon and especially within the first swim leg. For this reason\, we have an option for non-swimmers.  Non-swimmers will have the option to run along the beach\, after the last swimmer has left the water instead of swimming.  For those who choose to swim\, they will need to swim the entire distance but can take breaks by simply standing up in the water at any time.  However\, they will not be able to move forward in the water whilst standing on their feet.   The Wanaka Lake Swimmers club will be out in the water with noodles to support and regulate each wave of children. \nThe Lake Wanaka swimmers club will be out in the water on stand-up paddle boards or in kayaks and waves will stay small with 25 children per wave. This enables a safe and achievable transition from the Junior Challenge to a longer traditional triathlon swim format. \nBIKE (Year 1-6)\n \nThere will be one main transition area\, as illustrated in the course map.  Swimmers/runners will cross Ardmore Street (which will be closed to vehicles) and enter the transition area and locate their bike\, which will be in numbered sections within each age category.  Helmets are compulsory for the bike leg and marshals will be checking helmets are secured when children exit the transition. The bike will be a loop course that will go along the Millennium track that runs parallel to Ardmore St towards Stoney Creek carpark.  Year 1-3 will turn around just after the toilet block and head back along the gravel path that runs alongside the lake. The older children (Year 4-6) will continue up Ardmore/Mt Aspiring Rd) and turn right into Wanaka Station Park before linking up with the grassy verge which runs above the Millennium track. Children will continue along the grassy verge until they reach Edgewater where they will turn around and continue back along the Millennium track\, via Stoney creek and back to transition area. \nRUN (Year 1-6)\n \nChildren will enter the transition through the Ardmore St entry chute and rack their bikes and continue to exit on the Brownston St end of the transition area. \nYear 1 & 2 children will take a swift left turn after exiting the bike transition and make their way to the finish line area (main Challenge Wanaka finish line). \nYear 3\, Year 4 and Year 5 children will take a right turn as they exit the bike transition area and continue in an anti-clockwise direction boreding the transition area. They will then continue anti-clockwise on a 750m square loop towards the Cardona Valley road end of Pembroke park. Upon completing the loop they will then continue towards the Challenge Wanaka finish line area (as per the course map description). \nYear 6 children will complete two loops of the 750m course around Pembroke Park. Upon completing 1 lap they will be handed a coloured band\, which is evidence of their 1st lap completing. They will need to hand this to the volunteers stationed at a desk upon completion of their 2nd loop and then continue to make their way to the finish line. If children only complete 1 loop they will be disqualified so please ensure your children are aware of the two loop course. \nNote: We will have volunteer marshals in place along the way to assist\, but please ensure your children are familiar with the course and the transition area (and direction they exit for each leg). Refer to the course maps to clarify the finer details of the course.  The course will be marked from 3pm on Thursday the 14th of February 2019. \n  \nVolunteers\nThe execution of this event is supported by local volunteers. If you can spare a few hours\, please sign up on the Volunteer page through the Challenge Wanaka website. With 1000 children competing over the course of 6 hours\, we need a lot of support and the children competing really appreciate having helpers there to support them as they achieve something truly remarkable. \n  \nResults\nClick this link to see the 2019 results \nClick this link to see the 2018 results \nClick here to see the 2017 results \nClick here to see the 2016 results \nClick here to see the 2015 results \nClick here to see the 2014 results. \nClick here to download the 2013 results. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2018 Photos\nMarathon Photos were out and about on the Junior Challenge course for 2018.  Click to their website and search for your number or your name to find pictures of you/your child!
