SUMMARY:Jubilee River Swim 2018
DESCRIPTION:Jubilee River Swim 2018\nA great river swim and an epic day out along Berkshires secret river. \nNow in year seven\, the event they said could never be done! \nThis 10k swim can be tackled as an individual or as part of a relay team of 2\, 3 or 4 people. In fact the total distance of 10k includes 500m on dry land as you exit the water on three occasions to avoid oncoming weirs. These points are perfect for our three feed stations. \nThe 2018 event looks set to fill earlier than ever\, so don’t delay. If you’d like to enter\, we suggest you ENTER! \nSwim Times & Groups\nWe are likely to have four swim groups\, starting at 9.30am\, 10am\, 10.30am & 10.45am respectively. Swim groups and your start times will be confirmed 10-14 days before the swim. \nIf you would like to start in the same swim group as friends\, family\, people you’re travelling with etc\, we will do our best to accomodate you. You will need to get your request in before March 31st. Dealing with 100’s of requests at the 11th hour is hassle we’d rather avoid. Get organised! \nWater Temperature & Wetsuits\nFor the six years of the Jubilee River Swim\, water temperature has varied between 14.4 & 16.7 degrees. The swim isn’t wetsuit compulsory\, so you’ll have the option of being in our skins category within the entry form. \nAdmission Fee\nSolo Entry – £75\nTeam Entry – £100 \nUseful Info\n– Plenty of kayakers covering all water safety and medical staff covering each swim group\n– The swim will be chip timed\, with split times for relay swimmers\n– Transport is provided free of charge for swimmers\, spectators bus tickets are available for £5 and should be purchased during online entry.\n– The best way for spectators and relay swimmers to follow the action is to walk along the towpath. These will offer bananas\, flapjacks etc along with water\, cola\, hand sanitiser\, foil blankets etc. You can have your own fuel taken to feed stations of your choice.\n– Fantastic medals to all swimmers\n= Prizes for 1st three men & women solo swimmers and 1st relay team. SUMMARY:The Great East SwimRun 2018
DESCRIPTION:The Great East SwimRun 2018\nEntries for the 2018 Great East SwimRun are now open! \nSince its inception in 2006\, SwimRun has become a popular choice around the World for endurance athletes and is now the fastest growing endurance sport in the UK. \nThe concept was born in Sweden\, following a drunken bet among friends as to who could better navigate 20 islands and 75k of the Stockholm archipelago. \nRunners and swimmers from across the UK\, and triathletes seeking a change from the traditional triathlon format will enjoy stepping up to a new challenge. \nBased on teamwork\, passion\, and closeness to nature\, teams of two embark on a seamless journey across the landscape\, taking on land and water\, as they navigate their way around the course. \nThis outdoor running and swimming challenge is the new benchmark in adventure races. Not just for endurance athletes\, the most important things you need are a sense of adventure\, some determination and a lot of fun! \n \nAbout the event \nAn ideal entry level event giving everyone the chance to sample the SwimRun experience. Based on a single lap of Alton Water which is set in 400 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside.\nThe event starts and finishes at the main Great East Swim event site. The 11.3km course (approximately) comprises 4 swims and 3 runs.\nThe swim courses include the start and finish sections of the Great Swims with a sunken tennis court thrown in for good measure. The run courses have something for everyone: \nRun 1: Quick and flat through grassland and light woodland. The course is predominantly based on hard packed surface with some softer areas under trees.\nRun 2: Undulating\, sweeping run on a variety of surfaces\, includes three steep descents and several short\, sharp climbs.\nRun 3: Gently undulating course based largely on packed sand cycle track and path which follows the contours of the reservoir with the water regularly visible.\nTotal swim distance: approximately 20%\nTotal run distance: approximately 80%\nTransitions: 4 swims / 3 runs\nTime: unlimited\, take your time\nAge: 16 years old and over \n11.3k total distance covered \nThere will be a mandatory briefing before the event at 09:30.\nThe provisional start time for the event is 10:30. \nRules & Regulations

SUMMARY:The Henley Classic Swim
DESCRIPTION:Henley Classic Swim UK\nTHE HENLEY CLASSIC is a 2.1 km endurance upstream River Thames swimming event\, held over the Henley Royal Regatta course\, very early on the Sunday morning before the Wednesday start of Henley Royal Regatta. \nThis event is a celebration of mid-summer. It provides a unique opportunity to swim one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water in the world\, at what we believe is the most beautiful time of the day\, dawn. A key feature of the event is that you arrive in darkness and walk the 1/4 of a mile to the start into the sunrise\, led by the torch carrier. \nHenley Classic Wave Options\nThe Henley Classic swim has several wave options to choose from. \nSwimming on the Henley Regatta course is a privilege and we are very grateful for the support we receive. In return we have to be clear of the river by 0630 so it is important that you select the correct wave based on your anticipated swim time. \nPlease remember that it is an upstream swim so be realistic with your time and err on the side of caution – we really don’t want to stop anyone before they complete the course. \n0430 WAVE 1 (Sporting & Juniors) \nSelect this wave if you: \nwish to swim at leisure or alongside friends OR\nyou are a junior swimmer (age 14-17) or are accompanying a junior swimmer(s) \n0450 WAVE 2 \nSelect this wave if you comfortably average between 2 mins and 2 mins 30 secs per 100m during a distance swim. \n0510 WAVE 3 \nSelect this wave if you comfortably average between 1 min 45 secs and 2 mins per 100m during a distance swim. \n0530 WAVE 4 (Performance) \nSelect this wave if you wish to race hard (likely to be in the top 100 swimmers) and you comfortably average under 1 min 45 secs per 100m during a distance swim. \nWave times are provisional and may be subject to change \nTeams – There is one team competition. A team can be made up of any combination of male or female swimmers (but not elite) and any number. The four fastest times will qualify for the competition. Create or join a team during the entry process. \nEvent Location\nThe Henley Classic is hosted at Temple Island Meadows\, which is just ¾ mile from Henley town centre. Parking is available at the event venue. \nSwim Course\nThe course is a unique\, straight line\, point-to point-swim (ie no turns) and takes advantage of the boomed course of the Henley Royal Regatta. The swim is upstream\, the strength of the stream varies from year-to-year\, ensuring that no two events are the same. \nVenue Facilities\nParking is available at the venue\nToilets and changing facilities will be provided\nHot & cold drinks & snacks will be available at the main event area \nCamping\nCamping is available in Glebe campsite\, with on-site facilities including toilets and showers. This is just a short walk to the main event area and is ¾ mile from Henley town centre. Details and prices to follow. \nHenley Classic Saturday Supper\nThere will be a supper available for campers and anyone staying locally. Details and prices to follow. \nSaturday Evening Registrations\nThe venue will be open on Saturday afternoon from 2pm. Anyone who would like to register for the event early\, to save time on the Sunday morning can register between 4pm and 6pm on the Saturday.\n\nWater Temperature\nThe water temperature at the Classic depends upon both the outside temperature and the quantity of rainfall in the days and weeks running up to the event. It is therefore very difficult to predict. \nBased on previous years\, at the beginning of July\, we would expect the water to be between 17 and 19 degrees centigrade. \nEntry Fee: Juniors (14-17) £39 / Adults (18+ on race day) £49

SUMMARY:The 2018 Swissalpine Irontrail
DESCRIPTION:Swissalpine Irontrail Event 2018\nAn extraordinary running event with breath-taking tracks where one scenic attraction tops the previous one is awaiting you. You may choose your favourite discipline from 12 exciting races\, including the supreme Irontrail T88. \nCompete with world-class-athletes and enjoy the unique setting which only the Swissalpine Irontrail features. Unique. Spectacular. Alpine. Be part of it! \nT127 – 127KM\nPrecisely at the bewitching hour of midnight and with a full moon\, the start of this route takes place. The «Engadine by Night» cannot be better experienced than on the first phase over the Alp Muntatsch and Piz Nair (with an altitude of 3022 metres being the roof of the T127). In quick succession\, you will come across more scenic highlights. The ultimate adventure that every ultratrailer has to experience once in a lifetime. \nT39-39.1KM\nThis unique night trail offers a very special experience in the Swiss Alps. The Start occurs shortly before nightfall\, and is exceptional for those who love running at night. There is also plenty of time during the race to appreciate the spectacular dawn on the Sunday. \nT88-88.1KM\nThe successor of the legendary K78 is now being launched as a trail in glamorous and world-famous St. Moritz. The journey on the Rhaetian Railway from Davos to St. Moritz on the most attractive railway line in Graubünden is part of the new adventure and will get you in the mood for the T88. \nK23-23.8KM\nThis is the secret tip in the Swiss alpine Irontrail programme. It follows the former track of the Walser folk through Monbiel\, the furthest village of the Walsers in the valley of Prättigau. Subsequently\, it leads through a wildly romantic gorge\, over the Wolfgang Pass\, and finally passes the delightful Lake of Davos. This is an event for those who know how to enjoy themselves. \nK10-9.5KM\nIn response to many requests\, the former K10 has once again been included in the programme. This route is especially suitable to connoisseurs of running and those accompanying them. The shared Finish with the world class runners gives everyone the feeling of a special kind happiness. \nK43-42.9KM\nThis extremely popular mountain marathon is a classic. It leads through the charming valleys Dischma and Sertig\, and continues along the former mule track over the Scaletta Pass. In response to many requests\, it again follows the panoramic trail. Over the Sertig Pass and passed the lovely Sertig Dörfli it leads back to Davos. \nH21-21.4KM\nAlready in its third year of existence\, this diversified circular route has become firmly ensconced in the hiking and trail scene. The attraction of the route is special for enjoyment runners\, and those seeking hiking adventures. \nH20-20.3KM\nLocated in the middle of idyllic mountain landscapes\, this route is ideal for the newcomers to trail running. The track from Arosa to Davos promises wonderful natural experiences\, and is suitable for both those with ambition\, as well as for fun runners and hikers. \nKids-0.5\,0.9\,1.4KM\nFor the greatest Running Queens or Running Kings.\nIn the Kids’ Runs over 0.5km\, 0.9km or 1.4km nobody is too small not to become a Running Queen or a Running King. \nRequirements on participants\nAll competitions\nThe competitions take place in alpine\, in some cases high alpine terrain. This requires participants to adapt accordingly with regard to carefulness\, equipment and race strategy. \nParticipants take full responsibility for their participation in the race. This means participants are responsible for their state of health\, training\, fitness and equipment. It is expected of all participants that they:\na) are dressed suitably and in accordance with the weather conditions and their individual requirements and pro-tect themselves against rain\, cold and sun;\nb) retire from the race as soon as it threatens to become a health risk for them;\nc) behave in an environmentally compatible way and do not leave any refuse in the countryside;\nd) provide first aid help to other participants if these have an accident or suffer health problems. \nThe following minimum age levels apply\n• T127 / T88: from 18 years of age\n• Other competitions: from 14 years of age\n• KIDS: from 4 years of age \nAn acclimatisation period of ideally 5 days at an altitude above 1500 m a.s.l. is highly recommended before starting in one of the long-distance competitions. \nInfective illnesses suffered before the race (tonsillitis\, influenza\, etc.) can have a significant negative effect on the physical performance and may signify a serious danger to a runner‘s health (e.g. heart muscle damage). Anyone suffering from this kind of illness 6 – 8 weeks before the race should consult a doctor. Participants older than 35 years of age who are competing for the first time in a long-distance race are strongly recommended to undergo a complete health check by a doctor. \nT43 / T39 / K43\nThese categories represent several hours‘ endurance performance at altitudes of up to 2750 m a.s.l. and place special demands on the participants‘ performance capabilities. Adaptability\, autonomy and self-sufficiency in a mountain environment are also required. \nT127 / T88\nThese are long\, high alpine trails. They have an adventure-character where participants consciously take major risks. Some ascent and descents are very steep and require surefootedness as well as alpine experience. \nTo complete these trails\, good fitness and training are absolutely necessary. Also required are a good sense of orientation\, excellent adaptability and self-sufficiency in a mountain environment. \nParticipants are alone and run independently for long distances. Self-sufficiency is understood to be the capability of surviving alone on the route in all weather conditions\, making independent decisions (including retiring from the race)\, to be able to ensure a personal supply of food and drink and be able to provide first aid measures using an emergency firstaid kit. \nOrganiser services\nInfrastructure\nThe organiser provides the following infrastructure for participants:\n• Marked race course\n• Food and drink (during the race and at the finish)\n• Medical services\n• Transport and delivery of running kit to the finish area\n• Information about weather during the race\n• Timekeeping at intermediate posts and at the finish\n• Live tracking (for T127 / T88) \nFood + drink\nThe intermediate and finish refreshments are provided at the following distances:\nT127 / T88: Ø 17 km (15 – 20 km)\nT43 / T29 / H16 / T39 / H21 / H20: Ø 8 km (5 – 15 km)\nK43 / K23 / K10: Ø 5 km (4 – 6 km) \nBefore the event\, a plan showing the location of the refreshment stations and the food / drink provided there will be published in internet. The stations are also marked on the route map. The organisers reserve the right to modify the refreshment plan at any time and without notice. \nParticipants are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient food and drink with them at all times. \nMedical services\nAccording to the character of the race or trail\, the time taken and the distance covered\, the medical services are limited to coaching of participants\, initial treatment in the case of an emergency and notification of civil emergency rescue services. The medical personnel have the right to remove participants from the race definitely or for a limited period if the danger exists of said participant sustaining damage to their health if they continue. In the case of emergencies or retirement from the race on doctor‘s orders\, the costs of rescue\, care and evacuation by medical or rescue services are at the expense of the participant. \nEquipment\nWeather conditions can change very quickly in the mountains. Snowfall and a drop in temperature to below freezing is possible at any time at altitudes higher than 2000 a.s.l. Efficient protection against sun\, cold and rain is absolutely necessary for all competitions. \nThe following basic equipment is compulsory for T127 / T88:\n• Cell phone (always switched on and with direct dial emergency number)\n• Rain jacket\n• Bottle/bag\n• Headlamp with spare batteries\n• Emergency thermal (space) blanket (minimum 1.40m x 2m)\n• Elastic bandage for emergency dressings (min. 200cm x 4cm)\n• Emergency whistle \nThe organisers have the right to control the compulsory basic equipment at any time. Recommended equipment: Rucksack\, a warm long-arm shirt\, cap\, gloves\, sunglasses\, sun cream\, sticks or poles. \nThe following basic equipment is compulsory for T43 / T29 / H16 / T39 / K43 / H21 / H20:\n• Rain jacket\n• Bottle/bag\n• Headlamp with spare batteries (only for T39) \nWith the exception K43 / K23 / K10 / KIDS\, sticks or poles are allowed in all the races. \nRace route and accompaniment\nPerformance guarantee\nBy taking corresponding measures\, the organisers offer participants the highest possible performance guarantee independent of external conditions. The organisers reserve the right\, at short notice and without any reimbursement of starting fees to:\na) make changes to the race route;\nb) to interrupt the race and restart it;\nc) to stop the race or to cancel it before the start. \nRoute data\nThe official route data (length\, altitude difference) is determined in cooperation with “Outdooractive”. Data measured with GPS may deviate significantly from this depending on device\, weather conditions and quality of measurement. \nKnowledge of the route / time limits and traffic control\nAn in-depth study of the route is absolutely necessary\, in particular for T127 / T88. Participants must be able to follow the race route using a map. This is very important above all\, when the route markers are missing or moved by weather conditions (wind) or third persons. \nFor safety reasons participants are not allowed to leave the race route. The route will be closed according to the time schedule given (departure from a post). Participants who arrive too late will be removed from the race by the person responsible. Continuing the race under at ones‘ own responsibility is absolutely prohibited. \nRoad traffic will usually be encountered during the race. Traffic rules must be observed. \nAccompaniment and support\nPersonal support by trainers or coaches is only allowed near the refreshment zones. Running as pacemaker is not allowed. \nNo dogs or children‘s buggies are allowed. \nMiscellaneous \nLost and found\nLost and found articles should be deposited at the information stand and can be collected there during the race. They cannot be stored or returned by post. \nDoping controls\nThe organisers are authorised to carry out doping controls. Participants are subject to the Swiss Olympic anti-doping regulations and recognise the exclusive jurisdiction of the Swiss Olympic Disciplinary Chamber for Doping Cases. \nProtests\nProtests must be lodged with the finishing steward for the attention of the race jury within one hour after arriving at the finish and after payment of CHF 50.00. \nDisqualification\nDisqualification is automatic for participants who leave the race route\, do not follow the regulations or instructions of race management\, act in an unsporting way or have taken prohibited substances. The decision of the race jury is final. \nPlace of jurisdiction\nPlace of jurisdiction is Chur. Swiss national law applies. \nData protection\nWith their registration\, participants agree to publication of their family name\, first name\, year of birth\, place of residence and nationality in the start list\, rankings and time lists. This agreement applies to publication in internet\, print media\, TV/teletext\, speaker‘s announcements and start lists and rankings posted during the race. Photographs and videos taken in connection with the T127 / T88 may be used without any claim for compensation in internet\, print media\, TV and all other social media. The organisers reserve the right to make use of the personal details mentioned here for marketing purposes unless participants express their wishes to the contrary in writing. \nRegistration \nCancellation\nStarting fees cannot be refunded or transferred to the following year if a participant is prevented from taking part for whatever reason (e.g. accident\, illness). It is therefore recommended that cancellation insurance is taken out by competitors. \nConfirmation\nWith their registration\, participants expressly confirm:\na) that they have studied the race courses and are aware that the competitions take place in alpine or high alpine terrain;\nb) that they aware and agree that the organisers accept absolutely no liability towards participants;\nc) that they know and will follow the regulations. \nParticipants in T127 / T88 race confirm in addition\nd) that they know the character of the trail and the higher risk this involves;\ne) that they are surefooted and in an good state of health\, fitness and training;\nf) that they are capable of evaluating the development of weather conditions in high mountain regions and being equipped and behaving in a corresponding manner;\ng) that they are aware of the high personal responsibility they carry with regard to their state of health and fitness\, training\, equipment and self-sufficiency in the mountains and the environment. \nLiability and insurance\nThe organisers accept no liability at all towards participants for any accidents\, damage to health or any other kind of damage. No liability is accepted in particular for baggage transported by the organisers. The organisers also accept no liability towards spectators or third parties for damage of any kind. All participants must be insured against illness and accident. The insurance must also include cover for rescue and recovery costs.

SUMMARY:Australian Outback Marathon 2018
DESCRIPTION:Australian Outback Marathon 2018\nSetting off in a south-Westerly direction from the start/finish area\, the ground underfoot turns from a graded bush road to a genuine bush fire-trail\, with a combination of packed and soft\, red earthy sand underfoot. After approximately 3km you will cross the Lassiter Highway and turn north-west for another 3km. Look out for stunning views of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) on your left. \nThe course then turns in a north-easterly direction for another 2km and the ground changes once again from a desert track back to an unsealed but graded road. After approximately 8km you hit one of the few sealed roads on the course\, Mala Road\, which takes you through the village of Yulara on your way to more off-road trails. After crossing both Giles Road and Coote Road\, a brief turn due North takes you back onto the red earth as you head up towards Connellan Airport. \nYou start to head back towards the start/finish area after approximately 12km. There are a few small dunes to navigate here with some spectacular views of Uluru awaiting you over almost every tiny bump in the road. \nThe 15km mark sees you cross a different sectiuon of the Lassiter Highway and another short stretch of sealed road awaits you before you head off once again into the bush. After approximately 18.5km you will take a left turn where a 5km stretch of pure Australian Outback awaits you\, and there are once again some truly amazing views to be had here. Look out for the view at the top of Jem’s Dune which is almost exactly half-way. \nAt around 22.5km you take a right followed by a left (approx. 200m) and you start the trip home. Utilising some of the tracks near the resort\, you take a long\, meandering loop over a small dune and continue on until you hit the track at the 26km mark. This marks the way back to the finish and you are now 3/5ths of the way back. \nAfter once again crossing the Lassiter Highway you will get to see some fantastic views of Kata Tjuta\, especially in the 30km-32km stretch. Back through Yulara village at around 32.5km sees you once again on Mala Road\, the only sealed section of the course\, with the red earth once again waiting to welcome you at around 36km. Here you will also get to see the twin sights of Kata Tjuta on your left and Uluru on your right. \nFrom here it is plain sailing all the way to the finish line\, with yet more breath-taking views to inspire you over the last few kilometres. \nThe entire course is relatively flat from a topographical point of view but there are a few little inclines here and there. A couple of short sand dunes also make an appearance and whilst they are not long or high they will certainly feel like a challenge when running up them. The views at the top will certainly make the effort worthwhile. \nUnderfoot can get a little soft in places but this is “the red earth” after all!

SUMMARY:The Thames Marathon - Long Distance Swimming Event
DESCRIPTION:Long Distance Swimming Event\nThe Thames Marathon\, now in its 8th year\, is a 14km long-distance challenge swim from Henley-on-Thames to Marlow. It covers a beautiful stretch of the Thames and has become one of open water swimming’s most prestigious marathon swims. The swim is split into 4 sections. Swimmers will be required to exit the water at the 3 locks – Hambledon at 4k\, Hurley at 10k and Temple at 11.8k – where food and drink will be available. \nWhere does the swim start and finish?\nIn 2018 the Thames Marathon 14km swim will start at The Leander club\, Henley and finish at Higginson Park\, Marlow. \nWhere should I park for the event?\nThe official car parking will be in Henley\, at Wargrave Meadows\, Wargrave Rd. From here you will take the short walk to the start venue at Leander club. After you have finished your swim and had some food and collected your finisher medal\, we will transport you back to Henley. Supporters will be able to pay on the day to use the coach service. \nIs there other parking in Henley?\nYes\, there are plenty of public car parks in Henley and they are free on Sundays. The return coach will only drop off at the official car park. \nThames Marathon – Long Distance Swimming Event\nHow will my bag get to the end?\nWe will transport one small bag (3-4kg) for each swimmer. We will tag your bag for identification purposes\, and have it waiting for you at the finish area. We try and be careful but accidents do happen -please don’t use your best bag as we can’t be held responsible for any damage suffered in transit. \nCan I swim in a team with a group of friends?\nAbsolutely\, in fact we encourage it. The more people who swim together and look out for each other\, the safer the event is. If you wish to swim with friends\, please make sure that you all enter the same wave. \nWill I be able to wear a tow float?\nIn 2018 all swimmers will be required to use a tow float and are advised to get used to swimming with one before the event. Selkie Swim Co have some available. \nHow will you ensure that those who want to do solo swims are able to do so safely?\nWe have a fully approved safety plan that ensures coverage across the full course throughout the event. In addition ALL swimmers will be required to use a tow-float at the 2018 event. \nCan I swim non – wetsuit?\nWe do have a small number of non-wetsuit places available. . This is to minimise the risk to our safety plan. Wetsuits are important for retaining heat and providing buoyancy. If you would like a non-wetsuit place your application will be assessed by the events team for approval. Our decision is final on wetsuits and no discussion can be entered into. We advise swimmers to be prepared to wear a wetsuit if asked\, on the day. \nNon-wetsuit places have now been allocated for 2018 and a waiting list is in operation \nHow many feed stops will there be ?\nThere will be 3 feed stops in 2018 – one at each lock: Hambleden (4km)\, Hurley (10km) and Temple (11.8km) \nWhat food will be available at the feed stops?\nWe will provide a bit of everything\, including bananas\, energy bars\, energy drinks\, water\, some chocolate\, sweets\, and some salty snacks. A couple of the stops will also have hot drinks. \nHow will the start work?\nThe pink wave\, for faster swimmers that wish to race against the clock\, will go off first. The remaining waves will go off at 20 minute intervals (timetable subject to change). \nHow should I choose which wave to enter?\nFaster swimmers that wish to swim against the clock\, and have a 1500m pool time of 25 minutes or less should select the pink wave. \nOther swimmers should select either the blue or the green wave. In 2018 both of these waves will be of mixed ability. If you wish to swim with a group\, make sure you all select the same wave. The BLUE WAVE is now SOLD OUT. If you are not a pink wave swimmer\, please select the green wave. \nThe first (pink) wave will set off at 7am\, with approximately 20 minutes in between the waves. These timings are provisional and are subject to change. \nWe would recommend that if you are not presently able to complete a 1500m swim in under 45mins it might be as well to target a shorter event and then build for the 2019 Thames Marathon. \nAre there toilets on the course?\nThere are toilets at the start at Leander club\, and at the finish at Higginson Park. We are aiming to have a toilet stop at one of the food stations as well. \nCan supporters walk the route?\nThe route is walkable\, by following The Thames Path. Download the route here – Thames Marathon Walking Route. \nIt is also possible to cycle the route\, although there are a large number of kissing style gates where you may have to lift your bikes to get through. \nCan I talk to fellow swimmers in advance of the event?\nDefinitely\, we have set up Henley Swim Chatter as a facebook forum\, where you are able to discuss anything with fellow swimmers from nutrition and training tips to transport to the event on the day. There is also a facebook event page with all the latest information.

On Climate Ride Iceland we’ll travel to this magnificent island nation to explore the Southern Highlands where active volcanoes\, sparkling glaciers\, hot springs\, and rustic mountain huts combine to create an unparalleled connection to nature. \nThis charitable event is our premier mountain bike-only Climate Ride\, and all of the cycling takes place on gravel roads. NEW for 2018 – we’ll have daily options for single-track if you would like to try it out! Local Icelandic guides and our Climate Ride team will take care of all the details\, allowing us to ride\, connect\, and see how the changing climate is affecting the Land of Fire and Ice. \nOn this charitable biking event\, we travel where few tourists go. We stay in rustic mountain huts. If you crave more privacy\, we suggest you bring a high-quality tent so you can stay in the campground. \nThis trip is well-suited to experienced road cyclists who can get comfortable on a mountain bike. Weather can vary and you must be prepared for cold\, rain\, and river crossings. Follow our packing list and you’ll be just fine! You should train to ride 30 miles per day on gravel roads. There are shorter options each day if you choose to ride in the support van. \nIf you are vegan or vegetarian\, please connect with us to ensure you have wonderful food options. Bring a big smile and your sense of adventure for this jaw-dropping charitable bike adventure! \nClimate Ride charitable events bring together bright minds\, breathtaking routes for all cycling abilities\, and the unforgettable combination of passion and purpose. Your fundraising on Climate Ride Iceland will benefit the programs and efforts of Climate Ride including our community scholarships for young climate leaders. You are helping us grow the organization to become an advocacy powerhouse that engages people in the world of active environmental philanthropy and sustainable solutions. All donations are tax-deductible. \nA passport is required. \nDaily cycling mileages to suit all types of cyclists. This is a fully supported ride which means you can focus on the pedaling and making connections with your new friends while we take care of everything from overnight details\, meals\, snacks\, luggage transport\, and much more to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. \nEvent Itinerary Overview\n(Your Travel Planner will include full details) \nDay 1-Bike 22 Miles\nWe depart early this morning from Reykjavik hotels for a 3-hour\, scenic drive to Iceland’s spectacular volcanic mountains. At the foot of Hekla\, the country’s most active and famous volcano\, we’ll jump on our bikes for the first bike ride of the week – a stunning route across strange lava fields and stunning black desert sands before entering the amazing Dómadalur region\, flanked by smooth grassy mountains on one side and colourful rhyolite peaks on the other.\nOur first night is spent in a remote cabin in the heart of these spectacular highlands. \nDay 2-Bike 16 Miles\nWe head out early from our mountain hut at Landmannahellir to Frostastadavatn Lake (Icelandic for ‘Lake of the Frosty Place’). Our cycling route takes us to the famed natural hot springs at Landmannalaugar. Here we have an opportunity for a hike and a regenerating\, well-deserved soak in the steaming natural pools. In the afternoon\, enjoy an optional 9 km single-track bicycle route to Ljótapollur.\nOur accommodations for the night are at a mountain hut near Landmannalaugar. \nDay 3-Bike 25 Miles\nOn our third day of bike riding\, we head eastward\, biking on the Fjallabak Nature Preserve’s north route. The Fjallabak region\, one of the largest geothermal areas in Iceland\, takes its name from the numerous wild and rugged mountains with deeply incised valleys that are found here. The Nature Preserve\, where more than 150 types of flowering plants\, ferns\, and allies have been identified\, was established in 1979 to protect the area’s natural features so that future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy them as we do today.\nTonight\, our day ends at a comfortable mountain hut\, where we’ll spend two nights. \nDay 4-Bike 19 Miles\nToday starts with a shuttle from Hólaskjól to Langisjór. Once at Langisjór we’ll gear up and cycle along the Skaftá River – a picturesque glacier-fed river. We continue along the rushing waters through the Eldgjá volcanic canyon\, an enormous 5-mile fissure in the Earth and testament that this island straddles two continental plates.\nAfter an amazing day on the trail\, we eventually return to our mountain hut for a hearty meal before turning in for the night. \nDay 5-Bike 28 Miles\nDay 5 begins on a black sandy highland road through pasture land used for sheep grazing. The gravel bike route today affords a magnificent view of the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier – with its ice cap topping the Katla volcano\, made famous during the 2010 eruption of nearby Eyjafjallajökull. After a tasty lunch\, we continue toward the south coast and cross the famous Laugavegur trekking route – noted for its wide variety of otherworldly landscapes.\nAt our final mountain hut for the week\, we’ll enjoy a farewell dinner and celebrate our last evening together. \nDay 6-Bike 16 Miles\nToday’s bike ride starts off at Emstrur\, passing the impressive Markafljót Canyon. From there we pedal our mountain bikes along the mountains with several challenging sections to the great canyons of the Markarfljót River. After lunch\, we make our way on a remote and beautiful mountain road that leads to an idyllic valley under the Tindfjallajökull Glacier\, where we’ll finish the week’s riding. \nAfter packing up our gear\, we’ll drive back to hotels in Reykjavik for an afternoon arrival in the busy city.
