SUMMARY:ULTRA X JORDAN - Ultra Marathon October 2021
DESCRIPTION:Ultra X Jordan (previously the Wadi Rum Ultra) takes place in the land of Lawrence of Arabia. The mystical desert course takes competitors past historic sites\, into dramatic wadis and over magnificent sand dunes. \nWadi Rum’s nickname is “The Valley of the Moon” and participants will quickly see why. Its landscape\, characterised by unique towering rock formations\, is truly mind-blowing\, as is the challenge. As locations go\, this place is unrivalled in its beauty. \nWe are dreaming of the desert! \nDid you know that Ultra X Jordan was our first event? From 2016 to 2018 it was called the Wadi Rum Ultra. In 2017\, Sam and Jamie (the co-founders) met\, Sam was running and Jamie was the Race Director! The two got on and the rest is history! \nHere is why we think you should be joining us this October: \n1) The Course \nOur race course\, which changes slightly each year will take participants on a grand tour of Wadi Rum’s protected region. You’ll pass through canyons\, dried up riverbeds and occasionally over big sand dunes. \n2) The History \nThe desert is steeped in history. Wadi Rum may be best known for its connection with British Army officer T. E. Lawrence aka Lawrence of Arabia\, who passed through several times during the Arab Revolt of 1917–18. \nIf Wadi Rum isn’t enough for you\, the opportunity to visit the Lost City of Petra on the Saturday after the race certainly will be. \nPetra will take your breath away. The area is thought to have been inhabited from as early as 7000 BC and was once a major regional trading hub used by the Nabataean people. For the film buffs among you\, it’s fame was amplified in Indiana Jones\, The Last Crusade \n  \n\n\n\n\nMEDAL RIBBONS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll finishers will receive a race medal. Different medal ribbons will be awarded based upon the finishing times outlined below. \nAs part of our Sustainability Policy\, the Green Ribbon will be awarded to the competitor that displays the highest commitment to reducing their environmental impact both in preparation for and during the race (as determined by the organisers). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBLACK RIBBON\n\nUnder 27 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWHITE RIBBON\n\nUnder 30 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBLUE RIBBON\n\nOver 30 hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nINCLUDED:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Race entry \n2. Accommodation during the race (3-8 October) \n3. Transfers between Amman and Wadi Rum desert \n4. Medical staff on course and at all campsites \n5. Osteopathy staff on course and at all campsites \n6. Drinking water at checkpoints on course and hot water\nfor preparing food at all campsites \n7. Celebratory meal and local entertainment on the final night of the race \n8. Ground assistance and full safety support \n9. Digital copies of all images from event photographer \n10. Individual/team rankings and ITRA points \n11. Finisher’s medal \n\n\n\nNOT INCLUDED:\n\n\n\n\n1. Flights \n2. Accommodation before or after the race (accommodation at the race hotel can be purchased as an add-on at checkout) \n3. Personal food\, kit and equipment (see kit list below) \n4. Comprehensive insurance (to cover cancellations\, loss of items\, injury etc) \n5. Training costs \n6. Spending money \n7. Transport home for runners who are\ndisqualified or withdraw early

The Cederberg Mountains\, burnt orange by iron oxide\, dominate the landscape. Jagged sandstone rock formations\, like the Maltese Cross and the Wolfberg Arch\, and ancient San and Khoi rock art\, make this area truly spectacular. \nThe Cederberg lies 250km north of Cape Town\, stretching from the Middelberg Pass in Citrusdal to north of the Pakhuis Pass at Clanwilliam. The wilderness encompasses about 71 000 hectares of rugged\, mountainous terrain\, making it a top spot in the Western Cape for hiking and rock-climbing enthusiasts. \nThe Cederberg\, which forms part of the Cape floral Region\, is a World Heritage Site\, is covered in mountain fynbos\, including the laurel protea\, the red disa\, rooibos\, and the rare and endemic snow protea. Rare Clanwilliam cedars\, the area’s namesake\, dot the higher mountain cliffs. \nThe area is also rich in wildlife. Visitors with a keen eye may spot porcupines\, honey badger\, the Cape clawless otter and aardvark. The lucky few may even catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard. There are also smaller predators like the African wild cat\, lynx\, bat-eared fox\, aardwolf and Cape fox. Other\, more common animals include baboons\, dassies\, grey rhebok\, klipspringers\, duiker and grysbok. \nTo find out more\, download the Cederberg Wilderness brochure. \nAlgeria\nFrom Cape Town: Take the N7 highway. Stay on the N7 past Citrusdal\, after 28km take the Cederberg/Algeria turn-off to the right. Follow this main gravel road for 17km you will see the office complex and accommodation and campsite access road on your left. This is a 250km drive\, which should take about three hours. \n \n

Both Old Trafford and Trafford Bar stops are less than a 10-minute walk from the Athletes Village\, Race Village and Start Area. View the Metrolink network map here. \nIf you’re staying for the weekend\, adult Travelcards are available for only £6.20 for travel from 6.00 pm Friday to end-of-service on Sunday evening. For those travelling with their family\, it’s just £8.70 for up to two adults and three children to travel all weekend. \nTrams run regularly on all lines meaning there is no need to check a timetable – catching the tram really couldn’t be easier\, be sure to buy a ticket before you board as tickets aren’t available on the trams themselves. \nRail Services \nIf you are travelling to the event from outside Manchester by rail\, we recommend using Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Victoria stations. Both stations have Metrolink connections\, so you can quickly hop on a tram to continue your journey. \nTaxis \nEmirates Old Trafford- Lancashire County Cricket Club is 5 miles from Manchester City Centre (Piccadilly Gardens). Taxis from Manchester City Centre normally cost around £10-£15. Check before embarking on your journey. Roads in the vicinity of the Athletes Village\, Race Village\, and Start Area will be affected by road closures attributed to the event. Please refer to the drop off information below. \nAirport \nManchester International Airport is approximately 20 minutes from the area. By car\, join the M56 motorway at the airport exit (junction 5) and then follow the directions ‘From The South’ shown above.\nThere are direct train services to Manchester City Centre and a Metrolink Service that runs to the Trafford Bar stop. This Metrolink service takes approximately 40 minutes\, and Trafford Bar is a 10-minute walk from the Athletes Village\, Race Village and Start Area. \nGetting Around \nIf you are using public transport\, we strongly recommend using Metrolink to get to and from the race village. \nParking \nManchester United FC has many exceptionally convenient and secure car parking spaces available next to the race start. These are pre-bookable\, and the closest spaces are allocated first. \nDisabled Car Parking Facilities \nThese are available in the car park at the football ground. \nBy Bicycle \nThere is space in the race village for you to lock up your bicycle. This is not operated at any time. The event organisers cannot accept responsibility for any losses or damages\, however\, caused\, so please ensure your bike is securely locked. \n \nRace Organiser: Human Race \n  \n
