During this unforgettable week\, competitors will experience the place\, the people\, and the beauty of this iconic country in full. \n\n\n1) The Course \nUltra X Sri Lanka takes place in a country nicknamed “The Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. \nThe event is based in Udawalawe\, which is located in the Ratnapura District in southern Sri Lanka. The area is known for its spectacular tourism\, wildlife safaris and hotels. \nThe course takes competitors past tea plantations and sugar factories\, through 10\,000 year old rainforests\, along stunning countryside trails\, and down rushing rivers. \nIt’s also very flat\, at 681m over the entire week. For a 250km race it’s pretty fast… \n2) The People \nDuring this unforgettable week\, competitors will experience the place\, the people\, and the beauty of this iconic country in full. \nAlong with a number of local competitors\, the Sri Lankan people are some of the most friendly you will ever meet! SUMMARY:Cancer Research UK London Winter Run 2021
DESCRIPTION:This 10k Winter Run will have participants passing world-famous landmarks as they run through the heart of the city. Great for keeping fit this winter and getting ready for a summer season of running. \n\nCancer Research UK London Winter Run route\n\n\n\nThe 10k run will start in the famous Trafalgar Square\, otherwise known as the Snow Blast-Off Zone\, which will set each runner onto the 10k course with a burst of snow. \nOnce onto the wintry route\, runners will head past Nelson’s Column\, along the Strand past the world-renowned Adelphi Theatre and The Savoy hotel\, before veering towards Holborn. The route will then take them past The Royal Courts of Justice\, where they will shortly come across some of the new winter characters who have been invited to join this year’s event at the Husky High-Five Zone. \nPacing through the City of London and up Chancery Lane\, runners will then pass Chancery Lane Tube Station before continuing to the London Stock Exchange. Onto the medieval Cheapside\, participants will continue down the fast and flat course pass St Mary Le Bow church\, before being greeted by a Swiss Chalet themed Drinks Station at the Guildhall Yard. Setting off for home the runners will loop around the Bank of England\, past the much loved Penguin Party\, where runners will be given a warming boost from the cheering crowds\, led by their Antarctic friends! \nNext up comes Mansion House before taking in the sights of the prestigious St Pauls Cathedral – a fantastic landmark for the runners to soak up the heritage of the course. \nFrom here\, the runners will continue to circle back round to the Royal Courts of Justice for the second time\, before passing Kings College London\, Somerset House and onto Charing Cross Station. Taking a left down Whitehall the adrenaline will rise as they come to a finish just before Westminster and Downing Street. No politicians here though\, just jubilation\, as finishers are greeted by the famous warm Polar Bears for a victory hug and medal presentation.

A number of Class I to Class III rapids are encountered. Ratings are all given on the international rating scale. Two hours down the river is a beach with strange shaped boulders that resemble sculptures and this is the lunch spot \nOutdoor lunch by the river is always an enchanting experience. It also gives everyone a break from paddling and time to take in the scenery. After lunch continue paddling down to a  large gorge called the Trishuli gorge.  Here it is narrow and the walls very steep causing the river to accelerate through it. While canoeing\, we may get a close look at the Gharial and Mugger crocodiles along with fresh water dolphins\, otters and varieties of water birds. There is a beautiful variety of wild flora and fauna found in the park.  Overnight in Chitwan. \nSaturday 13th November 2021 \nEarly in the morning\, we spend our time bird-watching as Chitwan National Park is also home to a large variety of resident and migratory birds. We then have breakfast and drive towards the beautiful lake city Pokhara.\n\nSunday 14th November 2021\nToday is a day for you to explore one of the many things available.  Pokhara is a great place for Mountain bike hire or there are lots of places to visit. \nThe Phewa Lake\, the second largest lake in Nepal\, adds to the enthralling beauty of Pokhara. The changing light of the sun on the Phewa Lake provides aesthetic calmness to the lovers of nature. On the eastern side of the lake\, visitors can find a cluster of restaurants and pubs. Along with these attractions\, boating\, sailing\, kayaking\, canoeing\, swimming\, bird watching\, fishing and angling are some of the activities which you can participate in at Phewa Lake. In the midst of the lake stands the Varahi Temple\, where animal and bird sacrifices are offered to the goddess Varahi by Hindu worshippers every Saturday. \nDavid’s Fall is a charming little waterfall located about 2 km southwest of the Pokhara Airport on the Siddhartha Highway. Also located very close to David’s Fall is GupteswarGupha\, a mysteriously sacred cave that holds special value for Hindus since a phallic symbol of Lord Shiva is perfectly preserved here in the condition it was discovered in. Locally\, it is also named as GupteswarMahadev. \nBindybasini Temple is the oldest religious shrine in Pokhara built in the 16th century. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga where Hindu worshippers flock to perform sacrifices\, especially on Saturday. \nSetiGandaki Gorge\, a wonder of nature that goes underground\, vanishing from sight in many places along its route through the city. At various points the river is barely two meters wide and cuts a deep\, narrow valley. . A good spot for watching the river below is MahendraPul\, a small bridge at the center of the city. \nWorld Peace Pagoda\, a massive Buddhist stupa\, is an impressive site in Pokhara situated on top of a hill on the southern shore of Phewa Lake. Besides being an impressive sight in itself\, the Buddhist shrine is a great vantage point which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara City.\n\nMonday 15th November 2021\nWe fly back to Kathmandu today. After landing in Pokhara airport\, we drive to NayaPul (1 hour and 20 minutes) and start the trek. From Birethanti\, we trek to Ghandruk\, a beautiful village mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. If time permits\, we will also visit the Gurung museum today.  Overnight in Ghandruk.\n \nFriday 12th November 2021\nGhandruk to Chhomrong (2170m/7120ft): 5 – 6 hours\nAt this juncture\, we climb up for around an hour up to Kimrungdanda. On the way we can enjoy great views of Annapurna South\, Hiunchuli\, Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) and Ganggapurna. A steep descent takes us to the KimrongKhola. After another steep ascent from KimrongKhola to ChereDanda\, we descend for a while and then it’s a gentle walk to Chhomrong. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of the giant Annapurna massive. Overnight in Chhomrong. \nSaturday 13th November 2021\nBamboo to Deurali (3230m/10\,595ft): 3 – 4 hours\nWe pass through a damp and cool bamboo forest before ascending steadily with a few steep sections. It is only after reaching the Himalaya Hotel that the forest opens up and we are out in the sun again with astounding views of the glacial river below. It is a steep climb up through a much drier forest before reaching Hinku Cave. From here we can see the trail drop closer to the river before climbing again to Deurali\, the most scenic stretch of the day. The vegetation is sparser\, allowing magical views of the valley\, the river below\, and the sheer rock-face cliffs above with bands of wispy waterfalls. Overnight in Deurali.\n \nSunday 14th November 2021\nDeurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4\,130m/13\,545ft) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m/12135ft): 5- 6 hours \nClimb gently through a river bed then over a steep trail over to the mountain side. The hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp is somewhat strenuous. From Machhapuchhre base camp we get excellent views of the majestic Machhapuchhre along with Mt. Hiunchuli\, Annapurna South\, Annapurna I\, Annapurna III\, Gandharvachuli and Gangapurna which is certainly a rewarding experience. The vegetation disappears and the path widens as we enter the Annapurna sanctuary. From here\, we get sensational views of the near-vertical south face of Annapurna towering above us. The sanctuary boasts of a dynamic view without anything impeding the 360-degree panorama. From base camp we again get to savor mesmerizing views of the Machhapuchhre\, Annapurna South \, Annapurna I\, Hiunchuli and other peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp. \nMonday 15th November 2021\nAnnapurna Base Camp to Bamboo: 7 – 8 hours\nFrom the Annapurna base camp we retrace our steps to Bamboo. Today’s trek is downhill\, so it shouldn’t be very difficult. Besides\, we will always have the company of the extraordinary landscape to cheer us up.  Overnight in Bamboo. \nTuesday 16th November 2021\nBamboo to JhinuDanda (1760m/5770 ft): 5 – 6 hours\nFrom Bamboo\, it is an uphill trek to Kuldighar followed by a downhill walk to ChhomrongKhola. Then we climb the stone steps to Chhomrong. The trail then descends to JhinuDanda\, where we will be resting for the night. Today we will have an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which is just a 15-20 minute downhill walk from JhinuDanda to soothe our aching body. Overnight in JhinuDanda. \nWednesday 17th November 2021\nTrek to NayaPul then drive to Pokhara: 6 hours trek\, 1 hour drive\nOn our way to NayaPul from Jhinu Danda\, we get to enjoy the amazing hill landscape of western Nepal. We have lunch on the way. Our trek will end at NayaPul where we board our vehicle to Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara. \nThursday 18th November 2021\nFly to Kathmandu\nWe fly to Kathmandu in the afternoon. After arriving in Kathmandu\, we will be escorted to our hotel. Enjoy live music and entertainment as you run the closed roads of Reading. \nWhere and when\nLocation\nMadejski Stadium\, Junction 11\, M4\, Reading RG2 0FL\, UK\nStart times\n8:30 am Green Park Challenge\n10:15 am Half Marathon \nRoute information\nRunners will be taken around the closed-roads of Reading in this Half Marathon and Green Parks Challenge.\nThe Green Parks Challenge is a short 3k run starting at Longwater Avenue and finishing with a photo finish at Madejski Stadium.\nThe Half Marathon follows closed tarmac roads and will be a great\, flat route around Reading and will enjoy a tour of the city as they race in this atmospheric event. \nWhat’s included\n– Bespoke Finisher’s Medal\n– Bag drop\n– Race Village\n– First aid support\n– Refreshments\n– Massage & physio\n– Wide range of entertainment\n– Pacers\n– T-shirt for Green Challenge runners \nHow to get there\nMadejski Stadium\, Junction 11\, M4\, Reading RG2 0FL\, UK \nShuttle Bus\nThere will be free shuttle buses between Reading Station and the Madejski Stadium from 07:00-14:30\, open to everyone.\nBy Car\nIt is asked that people do not use junction 11 on the M4 to gain access to Reading town centre as this will be affected due to road closures.\nParking\nPlease note\, there will be no parking at Madejski Stadium.\nThere are car parks available for pre-booking\, which will cost £12.50.\nRed Car Park (Not on sale yet) – Located on A33/ Longwater Avenue\, RG2 0QS\, this car park is approx. 2 minutes’ walk to the Race Village. *Please note there is a height restriction of 2.1m. All vehicles must also be parked by 9 am\, and there is no exit before 12:30 pm. They also require you to move your car before 4 pm when the car park is locked.\nYellow Car Park (Not on sale yet) – Located at the wood. (formerly Foster Wheeler)\, Shinfield Park\, Shinfield\, RG2 9FW. There is a free shuttle bus to and from the Race Village. We recommend you park by 8:30 am.\nPink Car Park – The organisers are hoping to offer the usual pink car park. However\, due to circumstances out of their control\, they cannot confirm if this car park will become available. They will make an announcement when they know.\nBy Taxi\nThere is also a Taxis service between the station and the Stadium\, with taxi pick up points at both locations – a fixed price of £10 between these locations. Please note a taxi will take you to other destinations from the Stadium\, this will be charged on the meter. \nEvent day logistics\nFriday\n17:00 – 20:00 Race pack collection opens\nSaturday\n10:00 – 16:00 Race pack collection opens\nSunday\n07:00 Race Village & Helpdesk opens\n08:30 Green Park Challenge starts\n10:15 Half Marathon starts\n15:00 Helpdesk closes\nIt is recommended that entrants arrive approximately 45 minutes before their race to ensure plenty of time to get to the start lines.\nStart Waves\nHalf Marathon\nAll entrants will be issued a colour-coded race number based on the estimated finish time entrants supply when registering for the event. Please start in the wave associated with the colour on your bib.\nGreen Park Challenge\nThe Green Park Challenge will have two waves\, one for participants 11 & over and including the Corporate Challenge Green Park Challenge runners. The second wave will include those U10 and all accompanying adults.\nRace Packs\nRace packs will be available for collection at the Voco Hotel\, Madejski Stadium\, Reading RG2 0FL\, both on the Friday and Saturday before the event.\nIf you have requested your race pack be posted to you\, you should receive it by the following dates:\nEntries made before February – published at the beginning of September\nEntries made after early October – posted the last week in October\nIf your race pack does not arrive by these times\, then please collect a replacement pack from the events Helpdesk\, which will be open on Friday evening and Saturday morning at times listed above.\nInternational runners will need to collect their race pack from the Helpdesk situated in the Race Village. Please bring a copy of your race entry confirmation email as well as a form of ID.\nAge Requirements\nAll entrants must be 17 and older to enter the Half Marathon.\nPacers\nThere will be pacers at the Half Marathon running at 5-minute intervals between 1:20 and 2:30 and are a great way to help you stay on target.\nWater Stations\nWater stations will be positioned at every 3-mile point along the route.\nFancy Dress\nRunners are more than welcome to dress up for the event\, but it is recommended that you test out your outfit first to make sure it’s suitable and comfortable to run in. \nSpectator Info\nEntry into the Stadium is free for spectators\, so definitely come along and cheer on your family and friends.\nThere are no official meeting points for family and friends at the event\, so spectators and runners are encouraged to find a suitable meeting point pre-race. \n \nRace Organiser: Goldline Events \n
