SUMMARY:Dragon Ride 2024
DESCRIPTION:Port Talbot\, West Glamorgan\, Margam Park\, Port Talbot\, SA13 2TJ\, United Kingdom\n\n\n\nSun 23rd June 2024\n\n\n\n5 races | £25.00 – £109.00\n\n\n\n\nORGANISER’S DESCRIPTION\n\n\n\nThe Dragon Ride is one of the oldest and most iconic sportives in the UK\, renowned as being the toughest and most legendary in the British Isles. It will\, once again\, be returning to Margam Park for what will be a special 20th edition in 2024 with lots of exciting surprises planned! \n\n\n\nLou Lusardi birthed the very first Dragon Ride in 2004\, with just 280 riders\, he was inspired by the popularity of Italian Gran Fondo’s in his home country. At the time there were only a handful of sportives in the UK and Lou saw an opportunity to bring this type of event to the Brecon Beacons. An insight that has proven correct and stood the test of time\, with thousands every year now slaying the gruelling Dragon Ride. \n\n\n\nCOURSE DETAILS\n\n\n\nFour incredible challenges\, which will you choose? \n\n\n\nFor 2021 we scoured the Brecon Beacons and our vault to redesign all 4 routes to recreate the routes in reverse for the first time in 12 years. Your feedback for these challenges in 2021\, 2022 & 2023 was excellent\, so for 2024 we will again be asking riders to take on one of these four epic challenges. Each route will begin and end at our event village in the beautiful Margam Park near Port Talbot and head into\, in our opinion\, the best riding in the UK. \n\n\n\nMacmillan100 = 100km (3 major climbs)Medio Fondo = 157km (6 major climbs)Gran Fondo = 213km (8 major climbs)Dragon Devil = 296km (10 major climbs)

SUMMARY:Dawn2Dusk - Virtual Event - Running or Cycling - 3 Person Team Event
DESCRIPTION:What: \nThis is a team event. A team consists of three people only. You must enter your team into one of two disciplines. These are; \n– On Foot (running/walking)\n– Cycling \nYour team cannot mix disciplines (ie if you enter your team ‘On Foot’\, none of your team can cycle and vice versa). \nYou and your team must then see how many kilometers you can clock up between dawn and dusk. For the purposes of making this inclusive to all those around the world\, the start and finish times are set at 06:00 (6am) and 18:00 (6pm)\, wherever you are taking on the challenge. You have 12 hours to go as far as you can. Your total distance will be the sum of the distance covered by all three of your team members. \nExample: \nStefan\, Mary and Jan cover 22km\, 45km and 92km on foot. Their total distance and the one submitted to Ultra X will be 159km. \nWhen: \n #Dawn2Dusk will take place on Saturday 13th March 2021. \nAs this is a truly global challenge we want to ensure that as many people around the planet can take part. The challenge is from dawn to dusk! You have 12 hours commencing at 06:00 and finishing at 18:00\, wherever you are in the world. \nPrice:  \nThe cost for entering this challenge is £21.50 per person (£64.50 per team). \nFor this you will receive: \n\nAn exclusive #Dawn2Dusk medal\nA branded wristband (colour dependant on distance covered – see below)\nIndividual and team rankings\nPrizes for the winner of each category\nSpot prizes for best posts/photos/interactions via social media/email and a random team grand prize!\n£1 per person will also go to a charity of your choosing (Mind 219830\, Sporting Equals 1119365 or NHS Charities Together 1186569)\n\nFinishers can select whether they would like one of our beautiful natural wooden eco medals made from sustainable wood stocks and of course designed with the Ultra X logo in the centre\, or to make a donation to our sustainability partners Mossy Earth\, who will plant a tree in your name in the Southern Carpathians. \nTeam categories: \nThere will be three team categories and you must enter your team into one of the below. \n\nFemale teams (all members female)\nMale teams (all members male)\nMixed teams (a combination of genders in any split)\n\nAll competitors will be contacted via email in the week before the challenge with details on exactly how you can upload results. A leaderboard will be published on 15th March. \nTargets: \nIn order to give you and your team something to aim for we have released the below targets. Depending on which figure your team passes\, you will be sent a different colour wristband along with your medal. There will also be some big prizes for the teams that podium in each category\, those that cover the furthest individually and spot prizes prizes for best posts/photos/interactions via social media/email. \nOn foot: (as a team in km) \n\nLess than 50km – white wristband\n50km – blue wristband\n125km – purple wristband\n250km – black wristband (this band is known affectionately within the Ultra X community as the Black Mamba!)\n\nCycling: (as a team in km) \n\nLess than 150km – white wristband\n150km – blue wristband\n250km – purple wristband\n500km – black wristband (this band is known affectionately within the Ultra X community as the Black Mamba!)\n\nNow\, there will probably be stronger and weaker people in your team but that’s part of the fun\, you’ll have to cover\, or be covered by your team mate(s).

After registering you will be directed to Transition where you will leave your bike\, cycle kit and running gear. Competitors will have their own numbered racking area corresponding to their race number. It is recommended that you ‘walk through’ & familiarise yourself with the routes to/from your bike from/to the entrances and exits of transition prior to starting the race. Remember to leave your bike in a low enough gear\, ready for the cycle section. There is no cycling in transition: mount/dismount your bike at the mount/dismount points. You bike racking area must not be marked with towels\, balloons\, powder\, etc as these will be removed. \nTransition will remain open to competitors throughout the day. It is a secure area patrolled by marshals. Competitors may enter and leave the area by the signed entry/exit only. You will be required to verify your identification i.e. race number\, with those on the gate. No one other than competitors or race officials will be permitted into the transition area at any time. \nIt is your responsibility to ensure that your bike is in safe road-worthy condition\, before entering transition. Any bike that is considered unsafe or hazardous to the rider or other competitors will not be allowed into transition. All handlebar ends must be plugged. Remember to check there are no punctures or flats the day before the race and before leaving for the event and ensure your helmet is securely fitting. \nRace Briefing\nYou must be changed and ready for your swim race briefing in front of transition at the specified time. You will have a separate briefing by the Swim Director on poolside. \nTransition Area\nThe transition area is located to the rear of the swimming pool in the car park (this will be closed for oncoming cars). \nNB: There will be a dry and warm transition area for clothing weather dependent. \nSwim Section\nAccording to British Triathlon rules the pool must be tested regularly for water quality. The final test will be done prior to the event and results will be posted up at registration. In the unfortunate event of chlorine levels being above the appropriate limit for safe swimming in this section of the event this discipline will be abandoned in favour of a duathlon. We regret that in this case no refunds can be offered. Historically all previous water tests have been well below these limits. \nThe temperature of the pool will be taken one hour before the event and will also be posted up at registration. If the temperature of the pool exceeds the appropriate level then the distances will be reduced. \nBike Course (1 Lap)\nThe bike course is a total of 12.2 miles (20.3K) following an undulating route leaving the swimming pool taking a right hand turn onto Dog Row and then joining the Quay. At the next turning it is another right hand turn onto the B1284. You proceed up the uphill passed the school taking the next left had turn onto Hazard Lane. You then proceed on this route joining Robyn lane for 1.85miles where you join the A690. You stay on the A690 for a total of 550 metres where you run left off it heading towards Pittington. You then proceed on Pittington Lane for 0.80 miles and then turn left in Low Pittington onto Coalford Lane heading towards High Pittington. You stay on Elemore Lane for 2 miles then join the A182 heading at Easington Lane and then head towards Hetton. You stay on the A182 coming into Hetton and turn left at the crossing and then right back into the sports centre. \nDrafting\nDrafting on the bike section is illegal. This is when a competitor gains an advantage by cycling in the slip-stream of the cyclist in front. Competitors should ride a minimum of 10m behind the cyclist in front\, except when overtaking. If overtaking is not completed within 15 seconds the overtaking cyclist must drop back. Static marshals will check that all competitors comply with the drafting rule. \nIn order to monitor drafting our bike director will tour the bike route in an estate car. The legal distance you should be behind the rider in front is approximately the length of an estate car. Additionally there will be static marshals on course monitoring drafting. \nTransition (T2)\nYou will safely dismount your bike before the dismount line and wheel your bike into T2. Out of transition runners then proceed adjacent to the A182 on a pathway for 1.13 miles. \nYou the turn left on the B1260 (Gillas Lane W) for 0.50 miles. Out of transition runners then proceed adjacent to the A182 on a pathway for ½ a mile. You then head down into the park turning left. At the bottom of the bank you stay on the path heading left. Running through the park sticking to the path you are heading back towards the sports centre. At 1 mile you head up the bank and finish under the gantry at the front of the sports centre. \nRefreshments Stations\nThere will be 2 refreshments stations on course where fluid will be available: \nRefreshments station 1: At the 1 mile point on the run \nYou may bring additional filled bike bottles which will be stored at this refreshment station for a quick change of bottle during your bike section. You should place this bottle in the labelled box in transition when you rack your bike. A marshal will transport the box of bottles to the refreshments station ready for your bike section. This bottle should be easily recognisable. Please note we cannot guarantee the safety or security of your bottle. Your empties will be taken back to transition for collection at the end of your race. \nRefreshments station 2: At the Finish. Medical supplies will be available here too. \nCut-off Times\nAs it is our intention to encourage all participants to complete their challenge there are no enforced cut off times for the event. However\, after the following times the medical director\, referee and safety officer will assess the ability of the competitor to complete the course and it may be necessary to remove the competitor in the interests of their health and safety and for the sanity of our marshals. \nPrize Presentations\nPrize giving will take place at the Finish area in front of the pavilion in the afternoon once most competitors have completed their event\, which is expected to be about 11.00m. There will be trophies for male and female age category winners (1st places only) and overall 1st\, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in each of the 3 distances. If you are expecting a trophy you must be present at the presentations to receive your trophy. \nRace Appeals Process\nAn appeal is a request for a review of a decision made by an official. Appeals cannot be made against judgment calls [made] by officials. Judgment calls include\, but are not limited to: drafting\, dangerous riding and unsporting conduct. \nAppeals must be made in writing to the race official. The time for a competitor or official team representative to file an appeal is no later than 15 minutes after his or her finishing time or the posting of the infraction\, whichever is the later; however\, the intention to write an appeal has to be announced within five minutes of his or her finishing time or posting of infraction. After this deadline only announced protest will be admitted. A fee of £30 will be charged\, which is refundable if the appeal is upheld. \nWithdrawal from the Race\nIf you withdraw from the event at any stage before the finish\, please inform an event marshal.
