It is a secure area patrolled by marshals. Competitors may enter and leave the area by the signed entry/exit only. You will be required to verify your identification i.e. race number\, with those on the gate. No one other than competitors or race officials will be permitted into the transition area at any time. \nIt is your responsibility to ensure that your bike is in safe road-worthy condition\, before entering transition. Any bike that is considered unsafe or hazardous to the rider or other competitors will not be allowed into transition. All handlebar ends must be plugged. Remember to check there are no punctures or flats the day before the race and before leaving for the event and ensure your helmet is securely fitting. \nRace Briefing\nYou must be changed and ready for your swim race briefing in front of transition at the specified time. You will have a separate briefing by the Swim Director on poolside. \nTransition Area\nThe transition area is located to the rear of the swimming pool in the car park (this will be closed for oncoming cars). \nNB: There will be a dry and warm transition area for clothing weather dependent. \nSwim Section\nAccording to British Triathlon rules the pool must be tested regularly for water quality. The final test will be done prior to the event and results will be posted up at registration. In the unfortunate event of chlorine levels being above the appropriate limit for safe swimming in this section of the event this discipline will be abandoned in favour of a duathlon. We regret that in this case no refunds can be offered. Historically all previous water tests have been well below these limits. \nThe temperature of the pool will be taken one hour before the event and will also be posted up at registration. If the temperature of the pool exceeds the appropriate level then the distances will be reduced. \nBike Course (1 Lap)\nThe bike course is a total of 12.2 miles (20.3K) following an undulating route leaving the swimming pool taking a right hand turn onto Dog Row and then joining the Quay. At the next turning it is another right hand turn onto the B1284. You proceed up the uphill passed the school taking the next left had turn onto Hazard Lane. You then proceed on this route joining Robyn lane for 1.85miles where you join the A690. You stay on the A690 for a total of 550 metres where you run left off it heading towards Pittington. You then proceed on Pittington Lane for 0.80 miles and then turn left in Low Pittington onto Coalford Lane heading towards High Pittington. You continue on Coadford Lane through Littletown joining the B1283 for 5.5 miles until you join Salters Lane signposted Haswell. You take the left hand turn and head. You stay on Salters Lane for 2.5 miles and then turn left on the A182 signposted Hetton. You then continue on this road for 1.6 miles coming into Hetton where you turn left then right back into the sports centre. \nNovice Bike Course (1 Lap)\nThe bike course is a total of 8 miles (13.3 K) following an undulating route leaving the swimming pool taking a right hand turn onto Dog Row and then joining the Quay. You then proceed on Pittington Lane for 0.80 miles and then turn left in Low Pittington onto Elemore St and then Elemore Lane. You stay on Elemore Lane for 2 miles then join the A182 heading at Easington Lane and then head towards Hetton. You stay on the A182 coming into Hetton and turn left at the crossing and then right back into the sports centre. \nDrafting\nDrafting on the bike section is illegal. This is when a competitor gains an advantage by cycling in the slip-stream of the cyclist in front. Competitors should ride a minimum of 10m behind the cyclist in front\, except when overtaking. If overtaking is not completed within 15 seconds the overtaking cyclist must drop back. Static marshals will check that all competitors comply with the drafting rule. \nIn order to monitor drafting our bike director will tour the bike route in an estate car. The legal distance you should be behind the rider in front is approximately the length of an estate car. Additionally there will be static marshals on course monitoring drafting. \nTransition (T2)\nYou will safely dismount your bike before the dismount line and wheel your bike into T2. Here you will rack your bike\, remove your helmet and change into your running gear\, ensuring your race number is visible at the front. \nRun routes \nSprint distance\nThe running route is 3.2 miles (5.2K) on a fairly course on pathways following a circular route from the sports centre. Out of transition runners then proceed adjacent to the A182 on a pathway for 1.13 miles. \nYou the turn left on the B1260 (Gillas Lane W) for 0.50 miles. At the roundabout you then turn left onto the B1284 (North Rd) for 1.3 miles. You then turn left passed the school onto the Quay\, Dog Row and then Park View heading back towards the Sports Centre. \nNovice distance (1 lap)\nThe running route is 1.2 miles (1.9K) on a flat course on pathways following a route from the sports centre. Out of transition runners then proceed adjacent to the A182 on a pathway for ½ a mile. You then head down into the park turning left. At the bottom of the bank you stay on the path heading left. Running through the park sticking to the path you are heading back towards the sports centre. At 1 mile you head up the bank and finish under the gantry at the front of the sports centre. \nRefreshments Stations\nThere will be 2 refreshments stations on course where fluid will be available: \nRefreshments station 1: At the 1 mile point on the run \nYou may bring additional filled bike bottles which will be stored at this refreshment station for a quick change of bottle during your bike section. You should place this bottle in the labelled box in transition when you rack your bike. A marshal will transport the box of bottles to the refreshments station ready for your bike section. This bottle should be easily recognisable. Please note we cannot guarantee the safety or security of your bottle. Your empties will be taken back to transition for collection at the end of your race. \nRefreshments station 2: At the Finish. Medical supplies will be available here too. \nCut-off Times\nAs it is our intention to encourage all participants to complete their challenge there are no enforced cut off times for the event. However\, after the following times the medical director\, referee and safety officer will assess the ability of the competitor to complete the course and it may be necessary to remove the competitor in the interests of their health and safety and for the sanity of our marshals. \nPrize Presentations\nPrize giving will take place at the Finish area in front of the pavilion in the afternoon once most competitors have completed their event\, which is expected to be about 11.00m. There will be trophies for male and female age category winners (1st places only) and overall 1st\, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in each of the 3 distances. If you are expecting a trophy you must be present at the presentations to receive your trophy. \nRace Appeals Process\nAn appeal is a request for a review of a decision made by an official. Appeals cannot be made against judgment calls [made] by officials. Judgment calls include\, but are not limited to: drafting\, dangerous riding and unsporting conduct. \nAppeals must be made in writing to the race official. The time for a competitor or official team representative to file an appeal is no later than 15 minutes after his or her finishing time or the posting of the infraction\, whichever is the later; however\, the intention to write an appeal has to be announced within five minutes of his or her finishing time or posting of infraction. After this deadline only announced protest will be admitted. A fee of £30 will be charged\, which is refundable if the appeal is upheld. \nWithdrawal from the Race\nIf you withdraw from the event at any stage before the finish\, please inform an event marshal. This is for your own safety\, and to save us from searching for you out on the course. If you cannot complete a stage\, but wish to continue with the other disciplines in the event\, you may do so\, but you will be disqualified from overall results. You must inform an event marshal of this as soon as you are able to do so\, and don’t forget to return your chip at the finish enclosure \nSpectator Viewing\nStart and Finish area at the school to cheer on their competitors as they run past the finish at each run lap and at the end of their race. \nSpectators are welcome to line the roadside to cheer passing cyclists but should not offer any form of assistance to the riders such as offering drinks bottles or assisting with mechanical problems. \nNudity\nCompetitors who are publically nude at any point of the race risk disqualification. For more details see the BTF Rules & Regulations. Please familiarise yourself with these. They are available to view on the BTF website: http://www.britishtriathion.org \nToilets\nToilet facilities are available at the visitor’s reception. There are also toilet\, accessible toilet\, shower and changing facilities in the Sports Centre\, on the approach to the Finish area\, and at the Pavilion\, just past the Finish Area. These facilities may be used by the runners. \nFirst Aid\nFirst aid will be available on site. If anyone is in need of medical attention they should inform the nearest event marshal who will contact the Medical Director \nAbuse to Officials\nAny competitor who is abusive to a race official risks being disqualified. \nPre Race training\nWe regret that free access to the lake or grounds is not available to competitors prior to race day \nResponsibilities\nThe organiser cannot be held responsible for competitors’ or spectators’ property lost\, stolen or damaged before\, during or after this event. \nAnd Finally ….\nWe hope that you enjoy the event and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

SUMMARY:St Michaels Mount Swim 2018
DESCRIPTION:St Michaels Mount Swim 2018 \nThe Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer’s annual one and a half mile swim around the spectacular St Michaels Mount will take place on Saturday 11th August 2018 at 16.00. \nThe St Michaels Mount swim starts on the beach at Marazion where swimmers will set off for the Mount over the causeway swimming through clear waters around the Mount before making a course back to the beach to cheers from friends and family and a welcome pasty. \nDavid Squires\, Events Manager at the Chestnut Appeal said “The swim can be quite challenging and we ask that all those who take part can complete the distance in a pool and have experience of Open Water Swimming.” \n “Its such a fantastic event in a stunning location and the event attracts people from all corners of the UK to take part.” said David Squires \nA recent fundraising campaign has meant that the Chestnut Appeal is now able to provide the very latest in equipment for faster diagnosis of prostate cancer now in place at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. \nAt a cost of £105\,000 the Ultrasound – MRI Fusion Scanner for Targeted Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer is the first of its kind in the region. The Chestnut Appeal hope that soon they can announce the arrival of a second Scanner in the East of the region and it is their aim and with the support of the public to install others in Torbay and Truro as and when funds allow. \nThe St Michaels Mount swim will be fully supported by the team from Event Water Safety. Event Water Safety provide the necessary expertise and craft and have covered all the Chestnut Appeal’s charity swims since 2011. EWS provide safety at some of the UK’s biggest swims including the Dart 10k and Bournemouth Pier to Pier. \nRegistration for the swim is £35. Your entry fee covers the cost of organising the event\, but it’s the money you raise that helps Prostate Cancer patients and their families\, so we ask all our St Michaels Mount Swimmers set themselves a Sponsorship target of at least £75.\nThis will be our fifth swim around the mount and it’s a swim that has helped us raise our profile in Cornwall and has seen us attract new supporters. So if you fancy a new challenge and at the same time raise money to help men with prostate cancer in the region then why not register today. \nEntry to the St Michaels Mount Swim includes; a medal on completion of the swim\, full water safety support from Event Water Safety\, an event swim cap\, water and an end of swim pasty. \nThe Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer is a charity that supports men with Prostate Cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall. \nSt. Michaels Mount\, home to the St. Aubyn family is managed by the National Trust and a beautiful place to visit. At low tide\, it is possible to walk across the causeway to the mount.

SUMMARY:The Thames Marathon - Long Distance Swimming Event
DESCRIPTION:Long Distance Swimming Event\nThe Thames Marathon\, now in its 8th year\, is a 14km long-distance challenge swim from Henley-on-Thames to Marlow. It covers a beautiful stretch of the Thames and has become one of open water swimming’s most prestigious marathon swims. The swim is split into 4 sections. Swimmers will be required to exit the water at the 3 locks – Hambledon at 4k\, Hurley at 10k and Temple at 11.8k – where food and drink will be available. \nWhere does the swim start and finish?\nIn 2018 the Thames Marathon 14km swim will start at The Leander club\, Henley and finish at Higginson Park\, Marlow. \nWhere should I park for the event?\nThe official car parking will be in Henley\, at Wargrave Meadows\, Wargrave Rd. From here you will take the short walk to the start venue at Leander club. After you have finished your swim and had some food and collected your finisher medal\, we will transport you back to Henley. Supporters will be able to pay on the day to use the coach service. \nIs there other parking in Henley?\nYes\, there are plenty of public car parks in Henley and they are free on Sundays. The return coach will only drop off at the official car park. \nThames Marathon – Long Distance Swimming Event \nHow will my bag get to the end?\nWe will transport one small bag (3-4kg) for each swimmer. We will tag your bag for identification purposes\, and have it waiting for you at the finish area. We try and be careful but accidents do happen -please don’t use your best bag as we can’t be held responsible for any damage suffered in transit. \nCan I swim in a team with a group of friends?\nAbsolutely\, in fact we encourage it. The more people who swim together and look out for each other\, the safer the event is. If you wish to swim with friends\, please make sure that you all enter the same wave. \nWill I be able to wear a tow float?\nIn 2018 all swimmers will be required to use a tow float and are advised to get used to swimming with one before the event. Selkie Swim Co have some available. \nHow will you ensure that those who want to do solo swims are able to do so safely?\nWe have a fully approved safety plan that ensures coverage across the full course throughout the event. In addition ALL swimmers will be required to use a tow-float at the 2018 event. \nCan I swim non – wetsuit?\nWe do have a small number of non-wetsuit places available. . This is to minimise the risk to our safety plan. Wetsuits are important for retaining heat and providing buoyancy. If you would like a non-wetsuit place your application will be assessed by the events team for approval. Our decision is final on wetsuits and no discussion can be entered into. We advise swimmers to be prepared to wear a wetsuit if asked\, on the day. \nNon-wetsuit places have now been allocated for 2018 and a waiting list is in operation \nHow many feed stops will there be ?\nThere will be 3 feed stops in 2018 – one at each lock: Hambleden (4km)\, Hurley (10km) and Temple (11.8km) \nWhat food will be available at the feed stops?\nWe will provide a bit of everything\, including bananas\, energy bars\, energy drinks\, water\, some chocolate\, sweets\, and some salty snacks. A couple of the stops will also have hot drinks. \nHow will the start work?\nThe pink wave\, for faster swimmers that wish to race against the clock\, will go off first. The remaining waves will go off at 20 minute intervals (timetable subject to change). \nHow should I choose which wave to enter?\nFaster swimmers that wish to swim against the clock\, and have a 1500m pool time of 25 minutes or less should select the pink wave. \nOther swimmers should select either the blue or the green wave. In 2018 both of these waves will be of mixed ability. If you wish to swim with a group\, make sure you all select the same wave. The BLUE WAVE is now SOLD OUT. If you are not a pink wave swimmer\, please select the green wave. \nThe first (pink) wave will set off at 7am\, with approximately 20 minutes in between the waves. These timings are provisional and are subject to change. \nWe would recommend that if you are not presently able to complete a 1500m swim in under 45mins it might be as well to target a shorter event and then build for the 2019 Thames Marathon. \nAre there toilets on the course?\nThere are toilets at the start at Leander club\, and at the finish at Higginson Park. We are aiming to have a toilet stop at one of the food stations as well. \nCan supporters walk the route?\nThe route is walkable\, by following The Thames Path. Download the route here – Thames Marathon Walking Route. \nIt is also possible to cycle the route\, although there are a large number of kissing style gates where you may have to lift your bikes to get through. \nCan I talk to fellow swimmers in advance of the event?\nDefinitely\, we have set up Henley Swim Chatter as a facebook forum\, where you are able to discuss anything with fellow swimmers from nutrition and training tips to transport to the event on the day. There is also a facebook event page with all the latest information.

SUMMARY:The Henley Classic Swim
DESCRIPTION:Henley Classic Swim UK\nTHE HENLEY CLASSIC is a 2.1 km endurance upstream River Thames swimming event\, held over the Henley Royal Regatta course\, very early on the Sunday morning before the Wednesday start of Henley Royal Regatta. \nThis event is a celebration of mid-summer. It provides a unique opportunity to swim one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water in the world\, at what we believe is the most beautiful time of the day\, dawn. A key feature of the event is that you arrive in darkness and walk the 1/4 of a mile to the start into the sunrise\, led by the torch carrier. \nHenley Classic Wave Options\nThe Henley Classic swim has several wave options to choose from. \nSwimming on the Henley Regatta course is a privilege and we are very grateful for the support we receive. In return we have to be clear of the river by 0630 so it is important that you select the correct wave based on your anticipated swim time. \nPlease remember that it is an upstream swim so be realistic with your time and err on the side of caution – we really don’t want to stop anyone before they complete the course. \n0430 WAVE 1 (Sporting & Juniors) \nSelect this wave if you: \nwish to swim at leisure or alongside friends OR\nyou are a junior swimmer (age 14-17) or are accompanying a junior swimmer(s) \n0450 WAVE 2 \nSelect this wave if you comfortably average between 2 mins and 2 mins 30 secs per 100m during a distance swim. \n0510 WAVE 3 \nSelect this wave if you comfortably average between 1 min 45 secs and 2 mins per 100m during a distance swim. \n0530 WAVE 4 (Performance) \nSelect this wave if you wish to race hard (likely to be in the top 100 swimmers) and you comfortably average under 1 min 45 secs per 100m during a distance swim. \nWave times are provisional and may be subject to change \nTeams – There is one team competition. A team can be made up of any combination of male or female swimmers (but not elite) and any number. The four fastest times will qualify for the competition. Create or join a team during the entry process. \nEvent Location\nThe Henley Classic is hosted at Temple Island Meadows\, which is just ¾ mile from Henley town centre. Parking is available at the event venue. \nSwim Course\nThe course is a unique\, straight line\, point-to point-swim (ie no turns) and takes advantage of the boomed course of the Henley Royal Regatta. The swim is upstream\, the strength of the stream varies from year-to-year\, ensuring that no two events are the same. \nVenue Facilities\nParking is available at the venue\nToilets and changing facilities will be provided\nHot & cold drinks & snacks will be available at the main event area \nCamping\nCamping is available in Glebe campsite\, with on-site facilities including toilets and showers. This is just a short walk to the main event area and is ¾ mile from Henley town centre. Details and prices to follow. \nHenley Classic Saturday Supper\nThere will be a supper available for campers and anyone staying locally. Details and prices to follow. \nSaturday Evening Registrations\nThe venue will be open on Saturday afternoon from 2pm. Anyone who would like to register for the event early\, to save time on the Sunday morning can register between 4pm and 6pm on the Saturday.\n\nWater Temperature\nThe water temperature at the Classic depends upon both the outside temperature and the quantity of rainfall in the days and weeks running up to the event. It is therefore very difficult to predict. \nBased on previous years\, at the beginning of July\, we would expect the water to be between 17 and 19 degrees centigrade. \nEntry Fee: Juniors (14-17) £39 / Adults (18+ on race day) £49

SUMMARY:The Great East SwimRun 2018
DESCRIPTION:The Great East SwimRun 2018\nEntries for the 2018 Great East SwimRun are now open! \nSince its inception in 2006\, SwimRun has become a popular choice around the World for endurance athletes and is now the fastest growing endurance sport in the UK. \nThe concept was born in Sweden\, following a drunken bet among friends as to who could better navigate 20 islands and 75k of the Stockholm archipelago. \nRunners and swimmers from across the UK\, and triathletes seeking a change from the traditional triathlon format will enjoy stepping up to a new challenge. \nBased on teamwork\, passion\, and closeness to nature\, teams of two embark on a seamless journey across the landscape\, taking on land and water\, as they navigate their way around the course. \nThis outdoor running and swimming challenge is the new benchmark in adventure races. Not just for endurance athletes\, the most important things you need are a sense of adventure\, some determination and a lot of fun! \n \nAbout the event \nAn ideal entry level event giving everyone the chance to sample the SwimRun experience. Based on a single lap of Alton Water which is set in 400 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside.\nThe event starts and finishes at the main Great East Swim event site. The 11.3km course (approximately) comprises 4 swims and 3 runs.\nThe swim courses include the start and finish sections of the Great Swims with a sunken tennis court thrown in for good measure. The run courses have something for everyone: \nRun 1: Quick and flat through grassland and light woodland. The course is predominantly based on hard packed surface with some softer areas under trees.\nRun 2: Undulating\, sweeping run on a variety of surfaces\, includes three steep descents and several short\, sharp climbs.\nRun 3: Gently undulating course based largely on packed sand cycle track and path which follows the contours of the reservoir with the water regularly visible.\nTotal swim distance: approximately 20%\nTotal run distance: approximately 80%\nTransitions: 4 swims / 3 runs\nTime: unlimited\, take your time\nAge: 16 years old and over \n11.3k total distance covered \nThere will be a mandatory briefing before the event at 09:30.\nThe provisional start time for the event is 10:30. \nRules & Regulations
