DESCRIPTION:UVU Jungle Marathon\nWelcome to the 12th edition of Jungle Marathon\, an extreme footrace through primary Amazon Jungle in Brazil. \nJungle Marathon\, the world’s wildest eco race\, gives competitors the opportunity to combine sport and eco tourism and experience this stunning part of the world. \nWe offer three distances: a marathon; a 4 stage 127km race and a 6 stage 254km race. \nThe course\, which includes swamps\, river crossings\, steep climbs and descents\, village trails and fluvial beaches\, combined with humidity and scorching temperatures makes it a daunting and exciting race\, but well within the realms of any competitor who has a strong mental mindset. \nYes\, physical fitness is a requirement- but if you don’t have strong mental tenacity to combine with it then you will struggle to reach the finish. \nIf you are ready for one of the most exciting and challenging adventures of your life\, sign up today and join us from October 5th-14th 2017 in Amazonia\, Brazil at the 12th anniversary of the legendary Jungle Marathon . \nAbout Jungle Marathon \nJungle Marathon\, the world’s wildest eco-run\, organises a 42km marathon\, and a 121km or 254km stage foot- race through primary Brazilian Amazon Rainforest in the glorious Tapajos National Forest. \nSince its inception in 2003\, Jungle Marathon has gained an international reputation as one of the world’s most daunting adventure runs\, combining the thrill of the sport with the backdrop of this fragile eco-system. \nRunners encounter natural obstacles along the way and are exposed to the realities of the jungle as they encounter jaguar\, wild pigs\, snakes and a host of spectacular birds and wildlife. \nWater crossings full of piranha and caiman increase the excitement. \nThe organisers work with a 100% local team\, providing employment to the 22 small villages that live in this protected area of jungle\, and during the racea team of over 200 people provide the safety required in such a potentially hostile environment. \nTerms and Conditions \nOn registration all competitors agree to abide by the rules and regulations\, terms and conditions as set out by Jungle Marathon Ltd. Terms and conditions may be subject to change at short notice. \nIn any dispute the Race Director’s decision will be final and binding on all parties. \nJungle Marathon Ltd reserves the right to alter or modify any aspect of the Jungle Marathon race itinerary at short notice in response to unforeseen circumstances in order to ensure the safety and security of all participants. \nAge\nAll competitors must be at the age 18 years or over. \nEntries\nOpen to men and women\, individuals and teams. \nTeam Entries\nAll teams must have at least three members. \nTo qualify for a ranking all team members must complete the race or stage. \nIndividual team members will also receive individual overall rankings. Team times will be calculated as the average of the combined time of the team’s members. \nRace Stages\nThere will be either one marathon stage of 42km\, or 4 stages over 4 days (for +-127 km runners) or 6 stages over 7 days (+-242 km runners) varying in distance from approximately 16 km to 108 km (see Race Stages). \nEach stage will have a maximum time for completion. \nAny runner failing to arrive within the allocated stage time may be eliminated from the race. This decision is taken by the Race Director and depends on the reasons for not finishing in time\, the stage and the physical and psychological condition of the athlete. \nCheckpoints \nThese will be located every 5-10 km on regular stages\, i.e. on the long stage the checkpoints may be further apart. \nCompetitors must pass through all the checkpoints on each stage. \nAt each checkpoint water will be distributed and must be emptied into personal water bottles (or similar). \nIn no circumstances must any competitor leave the checkpoint with the plastic bottles provided by the race organisers. \nEach checkpoint will also provide the opportunity to seek medical assistance if needed. \nRunners in the marathon distance are entitled to send a drop bag to the checkpoints with snacks and energy drinks \nFailure to pass a checkpoint will result in elimination from the race or a significant time penalties. \nIt is imperative that all competitors leave the checkpoint with their full water capacity. \nFinishing a Stage \nAt the finish line of each stage water will be available. \nAfter putting up your hammock and settling in you will be given the opportunity to seek medical attention if needed. \nE-mails to competitors will be distributed each evening. \nOn completion of a stage each competitor and team will be timed in and ranked. \nHot water will be available at all campsites for food preparation \nMandatory Equipment\nHammocks with mosquito nets and rainfly sheet\nPre-race food from arrival in Brazil\nFood supplies to last for 4 or 7 days racing (depending on distance entered). (Please note that competitors entering the marathon\, or 127km distance may leave their post race food in a drop bag prior to the race)\n2.5 litres of water carrying capacity (bottles or similar)\nInsect Repellent\nCompass\nSafety pins\nKnife\n2 x cyclaume sticks\nCompulsory Medical kit including Salt Tablets- (enough for the entire race)\, please see below for full requirements\nTorch and spare batteries\nWater Purifying Tablets for at least 10 litres\nEmergency Whistle\nluggage label with your name clearly marked for your extra baggage you leave with us during the race\nlock for your extra baggage\nsmall padlock for your backpack to use in campsites\ncopy of medical and evacuation insurance \nMedical kit: full details of the contents of the medical kit are given with the kit list on registration. \nMarathon runners will carry modified compulsory kit during their race. \nRace Number \nEach competitor will be issued with a race number and two number plates \nIt is the competitor’s responsibility to make sure they are clearly displayed at all times during the race. \nDue to potential sponsor and media broadcast considerations the Race Director may impose restrictions on sponsor logos. \nFood \nAll competitors are required to bring sufficient food for both before and during the race. Marathon runners and 127 km competitors are required to be self sufficient until the end of the +-255 km race. A drop bag facility is availability for their post race food whilst they race \nLocal fruits or plants growing in the jungle may not be eaten. The only exception is an emergency\, e.g. when an athlete gets lost. However\, it is up to the athlete to know what things can and can not be eaten. \nWater Supply \nPrior to and for the duration of the race\, officials will supply and distribute water to each competitor: each morning\, at each checkpoints\, and at the end of each stage. At each of these points the participants will have to fill up the entire 2.5 litres of water capacity. \nIt is the individual competitor’s responsibility to manage their water intake and prevent dehydration. \nThe race organisers will take no responsibility for competitors who consume water not provided by race officials. \nOutside Assistance \nThe only assistance permitted is via the race officials and medical personnel. \nThis is a self-sufficient foot race. \nNo use of any form of transport or outside provisions (food or drinks) is allowed between checkpoints. \nAny infringements of this rule will be taken seriously and will result in the disqualification of the competitor or competitors involved. \nVoluntary withdrawal from the Race \nCompetitors wishing to withdraw from the race may do so at any time by approaching and informing a race official of their intention to withdraw. \nAs soon as is reasonably practical they will be transported to the campsite and options for further participation in the event will be offered. Please note\, only accommodation at the campsite will be free of charge. Any accommodation\, and also additional expenses such as meals etc. will be the responsibility of the competitor. Transport to Santarem or Alter do Chao is at the runners own expense. \nPenalties \nTime penalties if awarded will be added to individual times at the end of each stage and rankings adjusted accordingly. \nAppeals against any penalty must be made via the Race Director before the final ranking\, i.e. immediately after the arrival at the finish at the latest. \nContravening any of the rules and regulations will result in time penalties. Some specific penalties are: \nAll missing items from the mandatory gear list will incur a 1 hour penalty per day. Having lost an item on the race course is not a valid excuse. \nReceiving an IV drip will incur a 2 hour penalty (per dose). \nAny willful attempt to take detours from the course route\, (there are no short cuts through this jungle) will be taken very seriously resulting in possible disqualification (not including being genuinely lost) \nDisqualification \nDisqualification will result in the competitor leaving the race with no ranking. Transportation to the finish line and accommodation will be at the runner’s expense. \nOverall and Stage Placing \nCompetitors will be ranked and times indicated in hours and minutes according to their individual overall and stage performances with additional awards given in the following categories; Individual: Male\, Female\, Team\, Veteran (60+)\, 127km.\, marathon winner\, \nHealth & Safety \nThe safety and health of all competitors\, support staff\, and volunteers is paramount. \nAnyone entering this environment must take precautions against malaria. \nEach runner should take every measure possible to protect themselves from dehydration and exhaustion. \nA medical team will be on hand at all times to provide minor and emergency medical treatment and support should the need arise. \nThe course route is well marked out along trails and paths through the jungle. \nShould anyone have the misfortune of getting lost a search and rescue team will be ready and equipped to locate and evacuate them. \nItinerary \n5th October \nBoarding the boats. Runners and support staff assemble in the village of Alter do Chao to catch our river-boats to base camp. \nThere will be jungle marathon staff in the village square from 20.00 hours to assist you and direct you to the boat when it arrives. \nThe boat will be available for boarding from 21:00 hours. \nThe boats will depart just before midnight and you are requested to be on the boat by 22.00hrs. \nOn board \nOnce you are onboard\, hang your hammock and relax for our sail to base camp. The same transfer cut-off of October 10th applies. \nMany distances – one great day\nThe 2017 Leicester Marathon actually comprises of several running events. This means that everybody can get involved in this great annual event that takes you running into the heart of our great city and into the surrounding countryside. \nThe events are\nThe Leicester Marathon – distance 26.2 miles.\nThe Leicester Half Marathon – distance 13.1 miles.\nCummins Relay Challenge – full marathon and half marathon routes. \nThe Leicester Marathon – distance 26.2 miles\nThe marathon distance is regarded by many as the ultimate challenge. Every great city around the world has its own iconic marathon – including London\, Berlin\, Paris\, New York and Boston. Well the Leicester Marathon is in our view\, an equally great event. With is downhill start into the busy city centre (roads closed for the duration) and out into the beautiful surrounding countryside\, we know you will love the Leicester marathon experience. That’s why people come back year after year. \nThe Leicester Half Marathon – distance 13.1 miles\nThere is a big difference between a 10k and a full marathon. That’s probably why the half marathon distance has become such a popular distance for runners. In fact in Leicester\, the half marathon is a really popular event attracting a large number of runners – far more that the full marathon. For some\, the half marathon is a stepping stone to a longer distance or a training event to a future marathon. For many\, it is a distance that is enough of a challenge in itself and one that can be revisited and refined over the years. \nCummins Relay Challenge\nWe’re delighted that Cummins Solicitors are sponsoring this event for the fifth time. The relay race has become a huge part of the successful Leicester Marathon. \nThis year for the first time there are two relay challenges. \nChallenge 1: Your team of 4 run around the Half Marathon route\, completing approximately 3.25 miles each.\nChallenge 2: Your team of 4 run around the Full Marathon route\, completing approximately 6.5 miles each. \nWith the relay event\, it’s all about raising money for LOROS hospice which\, as many of you will know\, is an extremely important and worthy Leicestershire charity. Last year\, we had 60 teams enter. Between them\, they managed to raise over £10k for LOROS. \nLet’s raise even more for LOROS in 2017.\nThis year we want to smash that £10k and with a huge amount of interest so far\, once again we are confident that with your help we can get there!\nWe’d love you to enter a team because every penny of your entry fee\, and any money you raise in sponsorship\, goes to LOROS. To boot\, you get to have a great team event\, some fun (honest!) and (hopefully) to get fit in the process – what could be more of an incentive? \nYour team of four will start and finish at Victoria Park\, where you’ll be able to enjoy well-earned hospitality after the event – laid on especially for our relay teams. \nThe entry fee is £100 per team. Your support of this fantastic\, local charity will be greatly appreciated. \nDon’t want to run?\nNot everybody can run or wants to run! But you can still get involved in one of Leicester’s great annual sporting events.\nVolunteer – there are lots of places around the course where you can volunteer. You can help guide runners along the course; give out running numbers at the start or assist people as they finish. \nSpectate – cheer along our runners around the course. \nJoin us in making the 2017 Leicester Marathon the greatest event yet. \nMarathon Pricing\nLeicester Marathon 2017 Results
