195 children took part in the first official event at Churchill Gardens this morning (6th January).
The youngsters aged from four to fourteen set off at 9am this morning on a 2k course in the Salisbury park.
The FREE event was well attended and will now be held weekly.
Designed to encourage children to get active there are marshalls on route cheering on the youngsters and a tail walker to ensure a child never finishes last.
The results are timed and uploaded to a website where keen runners can track their progress each week.
Guy Mitchell took first place this week in a speedy 7 minutes 30 seconds, Toby Halsey finished second with India West in third spot.
Salisbury mum Victoria Thomas, backed by a team of volunteers, has been the driving force behind the idea.
“Only 5 months ago the seed was planted by a group of three local mums to bring the junior parkrun to Salisbury. Following a successful trial last week & help from local parents and adult parkrunners we are excited to bring the junior parkrun to Churchill Gardens every Sunday at 9am.
“We’re hoping this will become a fun event for all in the community. It will encourage young participation in sport in a relaxed family friendly way and will contribute to developing a healthy happy lifestyle for all.”
