SUMMARY:The GRIM Challenge
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nGRIM is a tough trail race in which you will certainly find yourself at times cold\, wet and dirty\, it is not an obstacle race\, it’s a running event. We don’t build any ramps\, walls or swings on the course. All the obstacles are natural\, formed by tanks driving over the route or by incessant rain in the weeks leading up to the event. Of course at this stage we can’t guarantee the rain but it’s never let us down before! In a few places you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading though waist high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it aptly named when you have run it. \nEntries close on December 3 at NOON.\nCharity details:\nOur 2024 charity partner Combat Stress is back for 2025! If you want to make your run count\, select the check box when you enter and a member of the Combat Stress fundraising team will be in touch! \nCombat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century\, it has helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, anxiety and depression. Today its provides specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict\, focusing on those with complex mental health issues. \nThe work it does is life-changing and often life-saving. We are delighted to be working and supporting the work Combat Stress at the GRIM Challenge. The charity will have a number of runners raising money for its important work through the event\, if you would like to join them send  an e-mail to events@combatstress.org.uk \nPlus points to the event:\n\nFabulous medals to all finishers\nGRIM beanie to all finishers\nHIGH5 energy products on course and at finish\nFree digital downloads of race photos\nFull medical back up\nSecure baggage storage\nOn site urinals and portable toilets\n\nMinimum age for runners: \n8 Miles 16 years old; 4 Miles 13 years old \n  \nFor more details on the event\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Farnborough Winter Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:In 2024\, the Farnborough Winter Half Marathon once again took place on its traditional date at the end of January\, but it has nowbeen moved to February 2025 this year. For those who remember the icy chill conditions of the inaugural event in 2017 or the snow of 2018\, in 2024 things seemed to calm down\, although not as icy it was certainly more windy. There were some phenomenal times\, at the front and all the way down the field: there were four runners (in 2022) under 65 minutes – all inside the old course record – and nearly 200 inside 90 minutes. This year’s race was no different with more extremely fast times across the board! \n\n\n\nFarnborough is generally the first major half marathon of the season so the weather will always be a roll of the dice in February\, but now we know just how fast the route is\, we expect it to be even more popular than usual. The 2025 race is confirmed as a qualifying race for the England Athletics Masters Programme\, giving Masters Athletes an opportunity to earn their England Age Group Masters vest. See here for more details. \n\n\n\nFor those of you not familar with the route\, it is a fast\, largely flat\, traffic-free course\, starting and finishing at the historic Airship Hangar adjacent to Farnborough Airport. It is the same route as the previous three editions\, taking in a delightful semi-rural circuit which broadly circles Farnborough airport in an anti-clockwise direction. \n\n\n\nFrom its inception in 2017 the event has been very popular with local runners and those from further afield looking for an early race to test their winter fitness. The main race is limited to 3000 runners and generally sells out early so don’t delay if you are thinking of running. Entries will be closed when we have reached our limit. Since it helps with our planning we incentivize you to enter early: \n\n\n\nPrices\n\n\n\nEarly Bird Next 1000 entries (or up to September 30\, 2024 at the latest). UKA Affiliated £33 Non Affiliated £35 \n\n\n\nStandard EntryUntil the event reaches its limit of 3000 entries. UKA Affiliated £38 Non Affiliated £40

SUMMARY:The GRIM Original Challenge 2024
DESCRIPTION:ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN FOR BOTH DISTANCES! \nThe GRIM is one of the original muddy/trail/obstacle races with a history that dates back to 2003. After a COVID absence in 2020\, it bounced back strongly\, with more than 1000 runners taking part in the 2022 & 2023 events. It returns in 2024 in much the same format: the route takes you over Army vehicle testing ground in Aldershot with two distance options\, a main race 8-miler and a lighter version over a shorter 4-mile course. \nAlthough the GRIM is a tough trail race in which you will certainly find yourself at times cold\, wet and dirty\, it is not an obstacle race\, it’s a running event. We don’t build any ramps\, walls or swings on the course. All the obstacles are natural\, formed by tanks driving over the route or by incessant rain in the weeks leading up to the event. Of course\, at this stage\, we can’t guarantee the rain but it’s never let us down before! In a few places\, you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading through waist-high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it is aptly named when you have run it. \nEntries close on 28th November at NOON. \nOur 2023 charity partner Combat Stress is back for 2024! If you wanT to make your run count\, select the check box when you enter and a member of the Combat Stress fundraising team will be in touch! \nCombat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. SUMMARY:Bacchus Wine Half Marathon & 10k
DESCRIPTION:Amongst oenphiles\, English wine has been an open secret for some time\, and there is no better place to sample it than Denbies Vineyard in Dorking on September 8\, 2024. The catch is that you’ll have to do a bit of running as well as part of the Bacchus Wine Half Marathon and 10K. \n\n\n\nSet in the stunning surroundings of the North Downs\, Bacchus is one of the must-do events on the UK running calendar. Most of the field turns out in a fancy dress\, and there are bands and other musical entertainment around the course\, but it’s the drinks stations on the route that separate Bacchus from other running races and epitomise the spirit of the event. \n\n\n\nHalf-marathon runners will have the chance to sample six fabulous award-winning English wines at five drinks stations along the course (you visit one station twice\, going out and coming back) with food and soft drinks to accompany them. If you are running the 10K you’ll visit two of the wine stations. For all runners there’s more food\, drink and music waiting for you at the finish at the post-race hog roast where the party carries on long into the evening. Non-running friends or supporters can purchase the same food and drinks at the post-race hog roast. \n\n\n\nVOLUNTEERS \n\n\n\nWe are always looking for extra volunteers who can help at the start/finish area with late registration\, hand out medals and T-shirts at the finish or serve drinks and food at the drinks stations. It’s a fun way to take part in the event if you are not running and all our volunteers receive free entry to one of our future UK events\, a goody bag of products and a ticket to the post-race hog-roast. Send a note to info@209events.com if you are interested in being a volunteer.

SUMMARY:LONGLEAT 10K\, WILTS 2024

This popular support event covers the first lap of the 10K up the hill through to the Bath Arms finishing with the magnificent run down Lodge Drive before crossing the line. \n\n\n\nEntries will close when we reach the entry limit of 1600 runners in the 10K (the 2-mile race is limited to 100 runners) \n\n\n\nStart time 10 am (for both 10K and 2 miles – 2-mile runners finish after the first lap) \n\n\n\nEarly Bird Entry fee 10K up to midnight November 30\, 2023 \n\n\n\nAffiliated club runners £24 \n\n\n\nUnaffiliated runners £26 \n\n\n\nEntry fee 10K from December 1\, 2023 \n\n\n\nAffiliated club runners £26 \n\n\n\nUnaffiliated runners £28 \n\n\n\n2-Mile Fun Run £10 \n\n\n\nT-shirt £10 (if purchased in advance\, £15 on the day if stocks are available) \n\n\n\n(T-shirts are unisex sizing) \n\n\n\nXS – Chest = 45cm Length = 66cm\n\n\n\nS – Chest = 48cm Length = 68cm\n\n\n\nM – Chest = 51cm Length 70cm\n\n\n\nL – Chest = 54cm Length 72cm\n\n\n\nXL – Chest = 57cm Length 74cm\n\n\n\n2XL – Chest = 60cm Length = 76cm\n\n\n\n(Chest measurements are for one side of the t-shirt measured whilst it is lying flat).\n\n\n\nNo entry on the day available

SUMMARY:Farnborough Winter Half Marathon & 5K
DESCRIPTION:Entry for the 2024 Farnborough Winter Half Marathon will open on March 1. There is a limit of 2500 entries in the event. \n\n\n\nEntries sold out in November 2022 for 2023\, so enter early to guarantee your place in the field. \n\n\n\nIn 2023\, the Farnborough Winter Half Marathon once again took place on its traditional date at the end of January. After a brief sojourn as a summer Half in 2021 we really enjoy returning to a winter event permanently again. For those who remember the icy chill conditions of the inaugural event in 2017 or the snow of 2018\, the weather in 2023 was just as cold! There were some phenomenal times\, at the front and all the way down the field: there were four runners (in 2022) under 65 minutes – all inside the old course record – and nearly 200 inside 90 minutes. As numbers in the full Marathon distance start to dwindle we felt we could no longer fully support the marathon runners without compromising the Half Marathon or 10K. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSTART WAVES \n\n\n\nThere will be eleven start waves\, the first seven for the Half Marathon runners starting at 9:30 am. Subsequent waves will be set off in 10-minute intervals. There will be three 10K start waves starting at 10:40 am. You will need to pre-select your wave to be sure of starting with your friends. After finishing\, reverse your direction and pass the baggage again before entering the marquee\, which hosts the post-race hog roast.  \n\n\n\nMUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT \n\n\n\nThere will be bands or musical entertainment at each of the drinks stations and at other sections of the course. A DJ will also be playing at The Hog Roast in the finish area.  \n\n\n\nHEADPHONE POLICY \n\n\n\nAs we are not running on any public highways (although there is one road to cross in two places)\, we allow headphones to be used. Still\, it is your responsibility to make sure you listen to any instructions from marshals\, and you wear headphones entirely at your own risk.

SUMMARY:South Downs Trail Half Marathon & 10km\, QE Park Petersfield
DESCRIPTION:The South Downs Trail Half Marathon and accompanying 10K are two of the classic trail runs in the South of England. They both start and finish at QE Country Park and run out to join the South Downs Way on a network of Bridle Paths through beautiful downland and forested countryside.  In 2022 we introduced Canicross waves for the first time. They were a great success\, and they will be returning in 2023 with a Canicross wave starting before the main races and a separate Canicross prize list. \n\n\n\nHalf Marathon\n\n\n\nStarting at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield\, the half marathon follows a route through the Country Park\, then across fields to the Village of Chalton before picking up the Sussex Border Path\, bringing you to the South Downs Way. The route then returns\, running west for 4 miles on the South Downs Way back through QE Park to the finish. \n\n\n\nWe are planning to have two wave starts for the half marathon in 2022 to prevent congestion at the stile after 3.5miles and to maintain social distancing before the start: \n\n\n\n\n9:55am       Canicross Wave\n\n\n\n10 am Half-Marathon wave 1\n\n\n\n10.10 am    Half-Marathon wave 2\n\n\n\n10.20 am    10Km\n\n\n\n\nThe half marathon field has wave starts to avoid congestion in the early part of the course\, where there are a couple of narrow sections on the route. The waves will be split on estimated finishing times\, with the faster runners starting first. Prizes for the first three male and female finishers will be awarded to the first three to cross the line\, so if you think you have a chance of winning\, please make sure you start in the first wave. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: HALF MARATHON ROUTE PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\n10K Trail Run\n\n\n\nTaking in the first 2.4 miles of the half marathon route\, the 10K course will divide and run on the Staunton Way up to where it joins the South Downs Trail as it enters QE Park at the Buriton Gate. The route then returns to the finish along the same route as the half marathon (South Downs Way). Essentially the route is a gradual climb up to halfway\, then a downhill return to the finish at the base of Butser Hill. \n\n\n\nTo view the route or download a GPX route to your device\, follow the following link: 10KM ROUTE & PROFILE Contains OS data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2022 \n\n\n\nTime Table \n\n\n\n\n09.55 am: Canicross Wave Start for Half and 10K Start and Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.00 am:  Wave 1 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.10 am:  Wave 2 Half Marathon Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n10.20 am:  10km Start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park\n\n\n\n\nPRICES\n\n\n\nHalf Marathon: Up to 30 Apr £32 (£35 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £37 (£40 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n10km: Up to 30 Apr £22 ((£25 Canicross entry) / From 1 May £27 (£30 Canicross entry) \n\n\n\n(Entry prices include all registration platform fees. SUMMARY:The Original Grim Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Grim Challenge 2022\nThe GRIM is one of the original muddy/trail/obstacle races with a history that dates back to 2003. After a COVID absence in 2020\, it bounced back strongly in 2021 with more than 1000 runners taking part in the event. It returns in 2022 in much the same format: the route takes you over Army vehicle testing ground in Aldershot with two distance options\, a main race 8-miler and a lighter version over a shorter 4-mile course. In a few places\, you will be crawling under cargo nets or wading though waist-high water. The distance may not sound daunting but don’t take this lightly\, on a cold December morning\, the GRIM is a challenge and you will think it aptly named when you have run it. \nWe also have a new charity partner… Combat Stress. \nCombat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century\, it has helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)\, anxiety and depression. Today it provides specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict\, focusing on those with complex mental health issues. \nThe work it does is life-changing and often life-saving. We are delighted to be working and supporting the work Combat Stress at the GRIM Challenge. The charity will have a number of runners raising money for its important work through the event\, if you would like to join them send an e-mail to events@combatstress.org.uk \nFor more information about Combat Stress go to\, https://combatstress.org.uk \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Bhutan's Thunder Dragon Marathon 2018
DESCRIPTION:Thunder Dragon Marathon in Bhutan\nBhutan or Druk Yul (the land of the Thunder Dragon) as it is known in Bhutanese\, is mystical\, enchanting and like nowhere you have ever been. This tiny Himalayan kingdom nestling between Tibet and India is a country of raw natural beauty and dramatic landscapes that range from sub-tropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. \nRegularly voted one of the world’s top travel destinations\, Bhutan still remains accessible only to the privileged few. The Thunder Dragon Marathon is your chance to see the country at ground level\, to immerse yourself in its unique culture and enjoy an unforgettable running and travel experience. \nDistance\nThe Thunder Dragon Marathon features a Full Marathon – 42.195km / 26.2m and a Half Marathon – 21.1km / 13.1m \nRoute\nFrom the start at Zhiwa Ling\, the first few kilometres are downhill on the road before crossing a metal bridge swing bridge festooned in prayer flags. It then follows the Paro Chu River downstream the tributary of the Wang Chu\, where runners are at 2200m altitude. \nThe route is undulating along the Wang Chu tributary – climbing gradually above the latticework of rice paddies up stream on one side of the river before crossing a bridge and returning down the other side on a gentle descent. \nArriving back on the road near Paro the half marathon is reached and the runners in the 21.1km will stop – spectators will be brought to the half marathon point to see the finish then both spectators and half marathon runners will return by bus to the start area at Zhiwa Ling to see the full marathon runners finish. \nThe Marathon will then climb steadily for 4km up the side of a valley passing above Paro Dzong then up to Zueray Dzong\, the highest point of the race (2530m). \nFrom here you start to drop to the valley passing by the luxury Uma Resort (2413m).\nDropping sharply back to the river\, the route crosses the ornate Paro Bridge in front of Paro Dzong. From here the route passes to the South of the town before rising up on the road for 3km to 2\,400m\, followed by a short climb on a wide track before picking up forest trails along a line of Chortens festooned with prayer flags. \nA short but steep climb at 30km on road takes you onto forest trail around a valley spur before dropping back to the valley. The final 10km are along an undulating dirt road through villages before dropping steeply on road with incredible views of the Tigers Nest as you approach the finish line back at Zhiwa Ling. \nThe first half of the race is easier than the second half with long sections of flat to undulating running on the road and gravel trails of the river banks. This makes the 21km suitable for all runners and run/walkers regardless of pace as there is no cut off time. \nStart/Finish\nThe Marathon and Half Marathon start at the 5 Star Zhiwa Ling Hotel in Paro. At the start\, the races are blessed by the local Monks to bring good luck and a safe race. \nAt the 21.1km of the Marathon course\, the Half Marathon finishes along the Wang Chu Tributary. Spectators and Half Marathon Runners will be transported back to the start area at Zhiwa Ling. \nThe Marathon finishes back at Zhiwa Ling. \nAll Runners will recieve a medal after crossing the finish line and refreshments will be available. \nStations\nThere will be water stations at approximately every 4km along the routes. Water will be served in bottles. Some stations will also server energy drinks and bananas. Gels will be available at the 30km point. \nTiming\nFinal details about the timing will be announced in your participant guide. The Thunder Dragon Marathon and Half Marathon will be manually timed. \nThe cut off time for the Marathon is 8 hours but has some flexibility depending upon the weather conditions. There is no cut off time for the Half Marathon. All Runners who do not achieve the cut off will be picked up and driven to the finish line. \nRoute Logistics\nKilometre signs are places every 5km along the route. Directional signs are placed frequently and tape is used to clearly direct Runners along any unmarked paths. \nAn extensive team of local Bhutanese Marshalls will be at key points along the course to give directions and ensure your safety. \nPlease note that some sections of the Marathon and Half Marathon Routes are run on roads which are not closed to traffic. Although traffic is not heavy\, take care and look out for vehicles.
