I grew up living a rural lifestyle in Northern NSW with hobbies and interests including athletics, cross country running and horse riding. I went on to study a BA of Urban & Regional Planning and have over 16 years’ industry experience specialising in statutory planning & development assessment within northern metropolitan Sydney. It was only in 2004 at the age of 27 that I discovered the sport of triathlon & found my passion for long course triathlon supported by the Ironman family and its broader community.
Whilst juggling two career interests, the efficient use of time and training with purpose was fundamental to my routine and success in the sport. Through consistent hard work and trust in the process, I reached my potential as an amateur triathlete and in 2009 qualified for a Professional Licence. An opportunity of a lifetime taking my sporting career to the next level amongst the world’s best on the international circuit.
In 2013, following a highly successful racing season, I made the decision to pursue my passion in triathlon as a full time career which has been one of the most empowering and life changing experiences made to date. This path has opened opportunities in many aspects of endurance sport including coaching in both triathlon & multisport. It has also enabled me to build active partnerships with various organisations in areas of sports performance, community coaching and the health & fitness industry as a whole.
Throughout my racing career, I’ve had the privilege of working with one of Australia’s best High Performance Coaches Grant Giles – Aeromaxteam, along side my ‘A-Team’ of sporting specialists based in Sydney who have been instrumental to my development & career highlights including winning Ironman Australia in 2013 followed by my top 18 result at the Ironman World Championships, Kona (9.35). My triathlon career would also not have been possible without the support of my fantastic team of sponsors, friends, family and husband Nigel.
In 2016 and at the age of 39, I retired from professional racing to pursue another life ambition and have a family. Today, I love being a Mum, I’m an entrepreneur running two businesses (Racingheart Coaching and town planning consulting). And with Jackson now over 18 months, simply enjoying being fit for life and pursing some personal bucket list events and experiences. They say “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream”. I’m looking forward to what this next chapter brings in all aspects of lifestyle – family, personal goals and career.
Coaching & mentoring has felt a natural progression and incredibly for-filling to be able to give back, share knowledge and experience with others who are also passionate in endurance sports and be a part of the dreams and journey of others like-minded (of all levels & abilities). The personal growth opportunities through sport are endless (both as an athlete and coach) and with an open mind to continue to learn, network and meet new people who have been a positive influence to my self development, I feel very lucky to be pursing this career path and enjoying the process along the way.
