SUMMARY:Valentia Island Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:Ireland’s premier sprint distance triathlon. Swim from the mainland to the island\, cycle around the island and finish with a run to the slate quarry and back. Valentia Island is one of Ireland’s most westerly points. It lies off the Iveragh Peninsula in the southwest of County Kerry. It is linked to the mainland by the Maurice O’Neill Memorial Bridge at Portmagee. Simply beautiful! \nSwim\nThe swim will begin from Renard pier. All competitors will travel to Renard on the Valentia Island Ferry\, and swim back to Valentia Harbour. \nCycle\nThe cycle leaves transition with a tough climb for the first four kms before cycling across the top of the island\, at the far end of the island there is a sweeping left turn with views of the Skellig to your right\, from here passing the top of the Portmagee bridge continue to Chapeltown before taking the lower road to the transition area at Knightstown. \nRun\nThe run is an out and back leaving transition and following the cycle route for 2.5km before turning around and running back downhill towards the finish at the Royal Hotel. \n  \nCategories\n\nVALENTIA ISLAND TRI\nRELAY TEAM\n\nRelay team of 3.
